Common Questions and Answers about Fetal development week to week

fetal-development

1339501 tn?1285439404 Last week I had my first ultrasound. My HCG had gone from 7500 to 16000 in 48 hours and from my LMP I should have been 7 weeks 6 days, but the u/s showed just a sac, no yolk sac, no fetal pole, no heartbeat. I was online constantly researching u/s's, fetal development, and what I should have seen (the fetal pole, the yolk sac).
1431138 tn?1294566894 I always thought the genitals didn't start to develop in utero until week 14? Is that right?
Avatar f tn They check at 20 week a to be sure it developed right. My doctor always says that the ultrasound is to make sure everything is okay not to find out what the baby is.
Avatar n tn t think we will be able to see baby at this point, just sac. He also said that my hcg numbers need to be around 1200 for them to see anything via ultrasound. So it's good they are doing bloodwork.
Avatar f tn did an U/S at 16 weeks to check the spine, which can be studied well by that point, but had to wait until the 20 week scan to check other organs that were more difficult to get a clear study of. The heart was an organ specifically mentioned. If you had an U/S before 18 weeks and have been sent for another one a few weeks later it may just have been difficult for the Dr to see what they wanted to see.
Avatar n tn If you break embryonic and fetal development into thirds then when you are in your 28th week the baby begins its final third of development. (Gestation is 266 days or 38 weeks of development). So either way you look at it you are in your 3rd trimester!
Avatar f tn Choroid plexus cysts (CPC) can be an isolated finding, which confers a 1% (variable based on population studied) risk of fetal aneuploidy. The risk of aneuploidy increases to 10.5-12% if other risk factors or ultrasound findings are noted. The particular size, bilaterality, disappearance/progression or the position of the CPC, do not have any effect on the risk of aneuploidy. 44-50% of Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18) cases will present with CPC, and 1.
Avatar f tn Try to hang in there hun, I know this waiting is SO hard! I also had an u/s at 6 weeks where all they saw was a gestational sac (no yolk sac or fetal pole) by around 7 weeks there was a yolk sac, fetal pole and heart beat!! I think there are even women on here that have had to wait till closer to 8 weeks to see anything. My Dr. was also on the negative side, I think they feel the need to prepare you for the worst. (((HUGS))) The fact that your levels almost tripled is great!
Avatar f tn 9th week US shows shrunken baby and no fetal heart beat. Doctor says we give another 7 days otherwise he will have to evacuate.
870180 tn?1269815819 Hi all!! I went in today for 8 week US and they discovered another fetal pole in the sac!!! This is very rare that two fetal poles share the same sac... only one has a hb that is low for 8 weeks and they are both measuring 2 weeks behind at 6w1d...Anyone have any similiar experience or comments all are welcome...the doc told me to prepare for a DNC but I am not going to do that just yet until I have a second and third opinion.
Avatar f tn Hi there Just went for another internal ultrasound today (friday) and they found a gestasional sac and yolk sac same as on Monday but still no fetal pole. They measured me at 6 weeks 1 day today.. They said the gest sac and yolk sac had grown accordingly since Monday so that was reassuring but told me to come back in a week to see if they can find fetal pole and hbeat. I've heard all sorts of variations on when they can find hbeat anything from 6 up to 8 weeks. What do you think?
Avatar f tn I had an ultrasound done at what I thought was 5 weeks 5 days and a yolk sac was seen but no fetal heart or fetal pole seen, and a repeat ultrasound to be done 10 days from then. Is this normal to not see any fetal pole or heart at this stage? The ultrasound tech said she wouldnt put me at 5 weeks 5 days.
1285651 tn?1319642429 my dr said late in the 5th week they can see a fetal pole but he wanted me to wait till the middle of my 6th week so we could see a heartbeat! so at 6 weeks 4 days I went back and not only saw a fetal pole but I got to see my babys heartbeat! good luck at ur dr appt and let us know how it went!!!
Avatar n tn t rise as quickly after 1200. I went from 33 to 996 in a week (doubling every 24 hours), then slowed and only went from 996 to 4000 in a week (doubling every 84 hours). So your levels may not have gone up as quickly as you think. I m bit surprised he would express concern without actually knowing what the levels are. Try not to worry...when is your next ultrasound?
Avatar n tn @ my 7 week u/s i saw the heartbeating but still havent heard it. My dr says next appointment I should hear it. I'll be 12 weeks by then.
Avatar f tn Or maybe I will get my results at my next prenatal visit, which is in about a week. Last time, the fetal monitoring clinic called me directly to let me know, but it took about 2 weeks to get the results.
Avatar f tn Accorcing to my LMP I should've been 5w5d when I had my first ultrasound and they saw the sac and yolk but no heartbeat. So Iam scheduled again next week. It sounds like it is just to early. Dont stress about it think positive!
Avatar f tn Try not to worry to much. It may switch to the other way at soe point, or even out.
Avatar m tn As far as i know there is no medicine to stop the development of the virus. Well there is PeP but that is meant to be taken 72 hrs (at the most) after exposure. Other than that, the other medications involve controlling the disease so as to maintain the patient's lifestyle. ie living normally.
Avatar f tn is important to fetal lung development. The fetus gets all of its oxygen and nutrients through the placenta and umbilical cord---a process called fetal circulation. Read more: http://www.livestrong.

Avatar n tn I have been taking the pill for about 3 years. I guess Ill be taking another test soon. Thank you!
Avatar f tn at around 6wks a sack and yolk sack should be visable, somtimes a fetal pole and heartbeat are also seen, I dont know what your doctor ment by mass usually they say a sack/yol sack or fetal pole was seen...
Avatar n tn [edit] Chromosome problems Genetic counseling is often recommended to provide more information about fetal CPCs, to answer questions and concerns, and to outline available options such as amniocentesis. There is a possible association between ultrasound-detected fetal CPCs and chromosome problems in the baby. Types of chromosome problems that are occasionally seen include Trisomy 18[2][3] or Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome).[4] Generally the risks are low if there are no other risk factors.
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear this. I had never heard of this and did some research. This is what I found. Hope it helps and prayers for you && the little one :) CPCs can form within this structure and come from fluid trapped within this spongy layer of cells, much like a soap bubble or a blister. CPCs are often called "soft signs" or fetal ultrasound "markers" because some studies have found a weak association between CPCs and fetal chromosome abnormalities.
