Common Questions and Answers about Fentanyl with morphine allergy

Avatar n tn I got as high as 75 mcg patch of Fentanyl every 3 days and then I developed some kind of allergy. The Pain Dr. says the allergy is to the adhesive, not the fentanyl. I am now down to 37 mcg every 2 days because the patches itch like crazy. I wake up in the morning and my patches are scratched off(even withTagederm) and there is blood on my sheets. My Dr. suggested spraying Benadryl but there has been no difference.
Avatar n tn I don't know abt. the patch, it seems like it would prolong the withdrawl. Possibly delay the inevitable but give some relief. Are you withdrawling voluntarily or till your next prescription ? Usually by day 5 a person starts to feel better and alot of the really bad stuff is over. I really do think the fentanly is a bad idea but I know how being addicted goes, we just want it to go away. I hope the best for you and I wish I knew more abt. your situation to give a good opinion.
356518 tn?1322263642 yep, tuck meant fentanyl is 80x stronger than morphine. If you have an allergy to the binder in morphine then obviously you shouldnt take it. I recently reduced my patch from 100 down to 50 and had no side effects. I think you really need to talk to your dr about this. perhaps methadone would be better than the patch for you. I dont know anything about fibro so i cant really help much.
Avatar f tn I have so many loved ones addicted to them i divorced after 12 years of marriage because of it and am going through it with a wonderful man that i have been with for 5 years now. With my mom and sister i have noticed that they have mood swings really bad they will fall asleep in the middle of a conversation talk out of there heads they have always abused zanaxs and they act like they have been doin them.
Avatar f tn There is also an option to ADD another long acting medication in with the fentanyl. This has been done for other members here that have an extremely high opioid tolerance. So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane.
1326023 tn?1274867436 I found a few charts and they are all basically similar. 315-404mgs of morphine is equivilant to about 100 mcg of fentanyl. Thats oral morphine. The IV morphine chart is different. I do know that fentany is one of the strongest opiate medications available.. I believe it is much stronger than oral morphine. At least that is what I have heard and read. I also saw a show on TLC (Dr. G Medical Examiner) and she also stated fentanyl is the strongest opiate medication you can be prescribed.
Avatar m tn It is not a good idea to take non-prescribed narcs without your doctor's knowledge. A.) It can be dangerous. B.) If/when they find out, you'll be detoxing "really" fast. C.) It will mess up your detox schedule. It sounds like your doctor is doing the right thing. When reaching higher and higher, escalating dosages of opiates, the ratio of therapeutic benefit to side effects gets worse.
Avatar n tn Is this morphine or Fentanyl? Are you sure it's point 75 (.75) or is it 75? What is the admin. route?
767538 tn?1276575320 I have already some good feedback from a few people on this forum who have experience with this med. However, I will be starting the 25mcg patch next week and I'm looking for anyone's experience when first using the patch. How did you feel on it? Did it make you feel queezy? Any general experiences I'm looking for both positive and negative. Did it last the full 72 hours? How long until you have go higher on your dose? Many thanks. Brian.
Avatar f tn In my case my neurosurgeon has implicated that I will likely need some form of moderate to strong pain medicine for the foreseeable future, while my hardware becomes set with bone growth. I stopped taking morphine cold turkey and transitioned to 75mcg fentanyl patches with oxycodone every 6 to 8 hrs at 5mg. Fentanyl is very effective for me but I'm also planning on stopping that as well here soon and relying on low doses of oxy, for break through or chronic pain.
Avatar m tn t tell ppl this enough that you should stick with it. Give the Fentanyl chance to work...If you are seriously concerned with how your body is reacting to the Fentanyl then I would really urge you to talk with your Doctor who can really put your worries to ease. He is the best one to tell you whether the drug is the right one for you.
Avatar m tn Oral 24-hour Morphine (mg/day) Fentanyl Patch (mcg/hr) 225 to 314 mg/day 75 mcg/hr However, this is just a calculation based on the limited medical information I was presented. Since I do not have your liver and kidney status, it will be difficult for me to recommend the exact dosing regimen. Please consult your provider using this as a guideline. 2. If you are on Opana ER 30mg, why are you still taking Dilaudid?
Avatar m tn So I'm on the Fentanyl 25mcg patch, switched from 180mg of Morphine ER because of tolerance. As I've said here before, but reiterating for those who may not know, it doesn't work for me. The Fentanyl that is. It was pointed out that the dosage is most likely low and I should be on the 50mcg patch, but I'm not a big fan of the patch in general.
Avatar f tn My history is a bit complicated and I had other meds involved as well as some health issues. Tapering is the way to go with Fentanyl, if possible.
Avatar m tn Grapefruit does interfere with the metabolizing of many medicines causing adverse effects, increasing OR decreasing the effects. There are other fruits that are hybrids of grapefruit that will cause the same effect.
Avatar f tn I am with you, I never got relief with the Fentanyl, and I was prescribed 4-100 mg. patches every 3 days. I DID get bloody, blistering rashes after the first month. It was only when I needed a colonostopy in the hospital, and they saw me with my gown on, they gasped and slapped a Fentanyl ALLERGY wristband on. The next day, I went in to the Pain Management Dr. that I had been complaining to, (they didn't work, I had abdomen pain, headache...well, every adverse reaction WITHOUT the relif!
Avatar f tn Her solution was to say she would prescribe the same morphine equivalent medication of morphine sulphate, but she wrote a prescription for thirty morphine equivalents less than the fentanyl patches. My pharmacist did not stock the medication and thought she meant to prescribe something for breakthrough pain. When I told him this was not the case, he offered to call the facility.
Avatar n tn ve been using a lot because I already have a high tolerance to opiates, what I wanted to know is if withdrawal symtoms of Morphine are any worse than Tramadol, because I think I may need to progress to that eventually. I have permanent nerve damage.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a 50 mcg patch every 3 days for about a year...unfortunately, we got new insurance...I was paying $15 before, but the past few months its been like $350 each time, which we obviously can't afford. 3 days ago I took my last patch and I'm scared to death...I have to work the next few days! My dr. gave me some morphine to help with the transition...will that help? I'm worried about my pain levels, obviously, but even more worried about the withdrawal symptoms...
Avatar f tn I've been tapering down my medications (and made some great progress.) So far got off the Fentanyl 75 mcg., oxycodone 40 to 60 mg. every four hours. I had some pretty moderate withdrawals going off the Fentanyl and oxycodone. Nothing like cold turkey, but difficult nonetheless. I was switched over to morphine ER 30 mg. in the morning and 30 mg. at night. I already dropped to 15 mg. at night. I'm also supposed to take 15 mg.
Avatar n tn If you are in the fentanyl patch and I was on that too about 5 years ago, but it burned my skin, so they put me on morphine er, I was taking 60mg twice daily and had 100 of the 15mg fast acting morphine and that was not helping me anymore. Morphine is not the answer either, gives me a headache, I have been on all of them, so I decide that I had enough, started to wean myself off slowly. Talked to my doctors and this is the way they prefer.
1345254 tn?1325918041 Fentanyl patches are 80-100 times stronger than morphine. You MUST be opioid tolerant to use the Fentanyl patches. Opioid tolerant means taking at least 60 mg of morphine daily for 2 weeks or more. It is recommended that opioids are started on the lowest dose required to effectively control the pain. As tolerance develops, naturally more opioid is required to achieve the same amount of pain relief.
Avatar f tn You use it to convert your fentanyl dosage to an equivalent morphine dose, and then find the equivalent morphine dose to oxymorphone, Generally when converting between opiates, doctors will reduce the new medication strength by a certain percentage to account for incomplete cross tolerance, which is a boost in analgesia you get from rotating from one kind of opiate to another. You can find equal analgesic tables, and apps for calculating equivalent dosing online.
