Avatar n tn Some opiates cause histamine release-- particularly morphine-- that can cause itching and a rash. Some high-potency synthetic opiates--namely fentanyl and sufentanil-- cause facial itching, particularly around and inside the nose. Some medications can cause a feeling of extreme restless called 'akathesia' that sometimes presents as intense itchiness over the body, especially the legs.
Avatar m tn Fentanyl is a stonger form of an opioid. Opiate and opioid mean the same thing: Opiate is an adjective while opioid is a noun. Percocet is an opioid as is fentanyl. They are synthetic which means they are man made and not derived from a plant. Good job on getting off the Percocet!
1279189 tn?1275244868 The release of fentanyl is based on temp on the patch, This is the reason, and the sole reson why we must be careful with some areas of recreaton and the hot tubs. Moreover, trust in your Doctor. seems ro me by reading your post, you are a, straight shooter and your doctor can see that. Most doc's WILL NOT JUMP FROM ER VICS, STRAIGHT TO FENTANYL. He sees a reason for the switch. I have worn the patch 6 years, and it has never ever come off in the bath or pool!
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been on fentanyl 75mcg and oxycodone 5-10 mg/day for the last year - ischemia and trigeminal neuralgia. I really want to get off these meds b/c of addiction issues etc. My doctor maintains that I have probably developed a tolerance to these meds. (tolerance vs meds - same thing??). In any event I stopped the oxycodone 10 days ago and my doc tapered the fentanyl patches to 40mcg for 1 month then 12.75mcg for the next month. Also rx'ed clondine and klonopin for anxiety.
775302 tn?1253100505 Hi everyone, I was recently taken off my usual pain med regimine of 75 micr of Fentanyl Patch every 48 hours and 4 mg hydramorphone ( dilauded) 4-6 times a day.
3112530 tn?1434032033 I was 150lbs when I started taking Fentanyl for pain issue. Fentanyl caused me to go down to 108lbs and have stopped the Fentanyl almost a year now. Currently 126 but want to go back to my previous weight. Was taking ensure but have lactose tolerant problems. How do I gain back the weight? Trying to eat a lot more pasta that I love but noting happening. Stuck at 126lbs for almost 6 months now. Any advise?
Avatar f tn This just does not make sense that u had to lie that u were an addict and then only have options like sub. Be careful of the fentanyl patch even though it is excellent for pain relief. Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine and 50 times stronger than heroin. Do the research. If you ever had to w/d from fent, suboxone for sure would not cover that. I tried the patch and let me tell you, I had noooo pain at all. I got off it just as quick when I did more research.
Avatar m tn I was on morphine SR 60mg twice a day for years and my doctor switched me to fentanyl 25 patch. I ended up with severe withdrawal and went back to the morphine for a week until my next appt where he put me on the 50 patch. Still I am going through withdrawals. My pharmacist says I can't be but I know 100% that's what is happening. Anyone else deal with this?
Avatar m tn ve been taking opiates for over 2 years and your doctor obviously sees you as opiate tolerant and capable of handling the fentanyl or he woud not have given them to you so I think you can relax about the overdose concern. As for addiction, it is a danger with ANY opiate. Althought the patch you have is on the lower end of dosage, it IS a strong opiate. Do you believe yourself to be an addict?? Or merely dependent?? Do you plan to stay on these forever?? Or are you wanting to stop??
Avatar f tn I prefer the fentanyl patch because it is all pain med -- fentanyl is a pure opiate agonist, like morphine, where as Butrans depends on a medication that is part agonist / part partial agonist. But either patch should be worn only by those who are opiate tolerant. Even the circular provided with the Duragesic patch warns against using the patch in those who aren't used to opiate analgesics. Have you tried Oxycontin?
Avatar f tn That is 150 mg of Oxycontin less than what you were taking through Fentanyl vs. 90 mg of Oxycontin more than you were taking. It now makes perfect sense to me why you are in so much pain on the Fentanyl. Converting 360 mg of Oxycontin to Fentanyl results in 150 mcg/hr...this is conservative. Converting Fentanyl to equal 360 mg of Oxycontin with the opioid calculator results in 300 mcg/hr.
4308773 tn?1352574189 I tried the cream, and there is NO comparison, between the relief I get with my pills vs. this cream! I am so exasperated, and I need help! What are some suggestions that I can do or where I should look for help... (ideas I can take back to my P.M. Doctor!) Thanks!!
356518 tn?1322263642 Some of the pain medications are a bit harder for the liver to metabolize than others ie. Fentanyl vs. Oxycodone. Fentanyl is harder for the liver to metabolize and Oxycodone basically just flushes right through as long as there is no acetaminophen added. I take Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root everyday as they both assist the liver with detoxification and will not interfere with the potency of any medications you may be taking.
Avatar m tn Just began on fentanyl patches for chronic pain. I have had radiation damage but am a cancer survivor so not bitter just tired of pain.
Avatar f tn I have been using the fentanyl patch several years now. For me I had to increase the dosage, I think about ever three years. I am now on the 50 mg patch with meds for break through pain. I do go to a pain management doctor, and it is much better for you to talk to your doctor about the pain not being controlled. Your body becomes tolerant and increased doses are expected. I am surprised your doctor hasn't already increased the dosage after such a long time taking the same pain killer.
2198240 tn?1338546163 The flare lasted 5 months and was HORRIBLE pain. So my doctor put me on Fentanyl. Patch 25 mg. My problem is I have a natural high tolerance to narcotics and the patch along with my percs are not working well. I LOVE the Patch...best pain relief I ever had...but for the break thru pain I need something stronger and dont know what to recommend...do y'all have any ideas what works well with the patch?

Avatar n tn tramodol is still an addictive narcotic drug - it was developed about the same time as fentanyl and was approached initially as an adjunct for addiction. I never found the tramodol to be effective at all for myself.
