1588890 tn?1297073916 Hi ellie, First I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. I want to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum only CP - Chronic Pain - Patients that help each other with our OWN expertise and experiences that we have developed through our OWN CP Issues. The ONLY person you should ask this of is your Doctor. I have NO idea if the Nicotine patch will interfere with your Fentanyl or not.
495284 tn?1333894042 Today a 33 yr old woman was charged with 3rd degree murder. She had been supplying this man with her fentanyl patches. He had been smoking it. The coroner said this was the cause of death as he had respiratory depression. The article also said that overdose with this drug is common as it is so potent. I know the woman who was charged. I have waited on her many times along with her teenage daughters. We all think none of this can happen to us.....but it does.
601891 tn?1238510452 I have recently had back surgery for my second spinal cord stimulator which is a huge success. Due to health insurance garbage after using the fentanyl patch for over 8 years my monthly cost has risen from $7 a month to approx $500 a month starting May. I am now on a detox program through my Dr. Now due to the cost of cigarettes I am trying to quit smoking. This is so unbelieveable that all of this is happening at once to me.

Avatar f tn We have a daughter that has been smoking fentanyl patches for a long time now but yesterday we found out she was now injecting it. We haven't seen her since july, when we found out she stole from us but is living with grandparents, who are a little naive but are aware of her problems and is also wanting to help. We have tried talking with her and she has attended a few narcotic addiction classes. We are so afraid she will overdose on these, which I have seen in my profession.
5597890 tn?1370629516 ve been on Vicodin,Percocet, didlauted, oxymorphone, valium, Flexeril, soma, Ativan, and none of those provided any relief. I was given fentanyl 25 on the patch for a month and really worked for a bit, but still had to take oxycodone 15 mg for break through. Pain still there. Yesterday changed pain management doctors, my last doctor only treated me like a number. New pain doc increased my fentanyl patch to 50.
Avatar f tn Some benzos are lethal if taken while on fentanyl, I totaled 2 cars bc I fell asleep at the wheel, burned myself, bed, sofa with cigarettes....falling asleep while smoking, and after time, the fentanyl makes your pain intensify so much and the days you change the patch, the pain can get so bad, you're almost bedfast. This was my experience. PLEASE TELL YOUR DR NO!!! IT IS A DANGEROUS DRUG!
Avatar f tn I'm presuming you're talking about the fentanyl patch? Fentanyl is a very strong pain med, as I'm sure you're aware. It does come in other forms - pills, IV and "lollipops" - perhaps one of those other forms would be less expensive for you - I'm not sure. The main thing is, none of those are as long acting as the patches.
Avatar m tn Hi there. I have a lump, possibly a swollen gland on the left side of my neck, close to the jaw. According to the charts it looks like the jugulodigastric node and is right on top of the jugular. My best guess to size is just over a half inch. It isn't tender, just swollen. I just quit smoking and I'm 24 years old. I'm not sure how long it has been there, though I suspect its been a while (been monitoring it for a week now). I don't have any other symptoms that I'm aware of.
Avatar n tn he falls asleep standing up, eating, smoking (more burns in the furniture), while visiting with others...
Avatar m tn -( please dont ever ever do that. Today is the first day that i havent smoked a pill and i dont feel like complete ****. Maybe a few more days to stabalize b4 getting back to my taper?
Avatar n tn I thought is was fairly easy to get off fentanyl. It was harder for me to quit smoking. I used the 100 mcg/hr. patch. After a few years every time I thought that my pain was getting better I would decrease my dosage by 10 percent when I put on the next patch. If that worked? I would decrease it another 10 % . If my pain got worse I would add 10% back. so on and so on. Since the patches are designed so that exposing 100% of a 100mcg/hr. to your skin will give you 100mc/hr.
Avatar f tn Hi, first of all thanks to whoever takes the time to read this. I've been addicted to fentanyl for about a year now and so desperately want to be off of it. I've been using about a 75mg patch everyday. I now have 4 100mg patches left and than I wont have anymore. Does anyone know how I can use these 4 to tapper down so I wont have to go through withdrawl? And is it enough to avoid withdrawl, at least the worst part of it?
Avatar f tn It is also used to stop smoking. I quit smoking its very hard. My logic says if this drug aka wellbutrin can help with that habit it aught to be really good against hydrocodone.
Avatar f tn Okay, to make a long story short, I got a bug up my butt a few weeks ago and decided that for my 54th b-day, I was gonna get myself off this stuff. Doc put me on it 5 years ago for a bad back and Fibromyalgia. I'm sick of being a slave to it. I also took 60 percocets/mo. Anyway, I found myself toying with my medication. NOT GOOD!!!! Anyhow, I cut back from 75mcg to 25 in a few weeks. The insomnia and hamstring cramps woke me a dozen times at night when i could catnap.
Avatar f tn I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?
1638239 tn?1300404202 m no longer using the Fentanyl patch -- just been off it for about 2 weeks. But, I was using the generic Fentanyl patch from the Watson brand. They would not stay on, so I called the Watson company, they took all my information (I thought they were about to send me some "patch covers"), then they just simply said to use waterproof medical tape on all the edges (not just the corners).
82861 tn?1333453911 Some of you may remember that we lost our COBRA insurance policy. It was a great policy, but pricey - $750 a month for both of us. As it turns out, both me and my husband are uninsurable. Me, because of pain management including the sin of psychotherapy with a pain shrink. My husband's sin is psychotherapy for PTSD and a condition called Barrett's Esophogus. No underwriter will touch us for any amount of money. That's the breaks.
Avatar m tn If the pain is still there, obviously the Fentanyl is not working and you need to address what is actually happening. Fentanyl CAN relieve pain, depending... It also dopes up your mind and body. You have no way of knowing this until you can think clearly and the Fentanyl prevents that clear thinking. Find out what is really going on and GET OFF THE FENTANYL, THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS!
Avatar n tn interactions between prozac and fentanyl. My husbands meds were recently doubled. Prozac now 40mg and fentanyl 50mcg. and he is now talking in his sleep every night and constantly scratching at himself in his sleep.
Avatar f tn I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.
Avatar m tn I guess I am one of the people who had to stop using. I started on Fentanyl 50mcg in Jan of 2012. My family doctor who knows my degenerative joint/disk disease knows my history but this is not his area of expertise. I was in pain after my surgeries and could not reach my orthopedic doctor or pain management team. My family doctor who I know for 25 years recommended fentanyl with morphine 15 as breakthrough pain relief. By June of 2012, I had NO IDEA of what this medication was doing to me.
Avatar f tn So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.
Avatar n tn The fentanyl should manage your pain much more effectively than the methadone... well I believe it will based on my personal experiences. And I have never taken opana, so I am not sure how much it would help. Good Luck.
Avatar m tn I would have used heroin if I knew anyone that had it. I was smoking fentanyl paches and yes it is expensive..I have smoked 4 or 5 100 mg patches a day at times. It is crazy. I tried methadone but was afraid of being addicted to that too so I stopped. Today I am starting subs and feel Ok. I just want my life back. It sounds like you never really had one. Get out of that house one way or another it is the only way you will get clean.
Avatar m tn Just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with switching methadone 95mg once daily, to fentanyl patch 100mcg Hour patch? or know the methadone mg fentanyl dose equivalents?
Avatar m tn Hey buddy! Congrats on your decision to taper down. I know fentanyl can be a handful. There's several members who has tapered quite successfully At 50mcg, my doctor wanted me to switch over to Oxycotin but insurance didn't allow it, which led to going cold turkey. I'll be passing your post to current and past fentanyl users! There's tons of support here!
