fentanyl nursing considerations

I was just curious if anyone is or has tried to concieve while nursing. My DS is almost 6 months old and I have had AF twice since birth, but it is irregular (which is normal for me b/c AF was irregular prior to concieving baby number 1). I was just wondering if there are any tips besides the normal stuff for TTC - like any special considerations, is it harder/easier, etc. thanks!

thanks for the welcome guys. i called my nephrologist, he knows my fears of being labelled a drug seeker, he assured me he understood and called me in more meds. i avoid the ER at all costs, even though that is where I should have gone. the withdrawals weren't as bad as with the fentanyl, go figure, but nursing my baby was hell, the restless feeling made it hard to sit and the pain hit my supply, so he was nursing longer and more frequently.

It is best that you discuss the results with your attending physician. Your medical history. symptoms and condition present are important considerations. Take care and do keep us posted.

I got an infection my painpump site got large as a watermelon , they did major surgery I was in the hospital for over a week came home with in house nursing. Several months later they put the pain pump on my left side this time and filled the pump with didaudid, this medication did not work so they tried fentanyl, got 50% releaf. After 3 months fentanyl is not working. Lower back and leg pain. My feet hurt so bad, the sting is like I have 100's and 100's of bees stinginng me.

I use the fentanyl patch for my neck and back pain and my pain management doctor feels that it is okay for me to continue to wear the patch during surgery (he is an anesthesiologist). I talked to the pharmacist today and he said that I absolutely should take off the patch, and even should take it off a few hours before since the medicine is still in the body and releasing so I don't technically need the patch attached to my skin for the last few hours before the surgery.

So, I just poured myself a glass of grapefruit juice and took my medicine - then for some reason I remembered that grapefruit juice interacts with some medications. I just did a quick search online and here is a list (probably not complete) of some medications that interact badly with grapefruit juice. Including some opiates.... I think it's 40, but surely if there are special considerations, i.e. your having had bc, or she has symptoms, etc, a mammogram can be done earlier. This baseline view is important to have and usually it's recommended around the age of 40? On the other hand, and since your daughter is breast feeding, it may be good to wait until she stops nursing for the purpose of getting a more accurate picture.

I began taking it even when I did not need it for pain and became addicted and tolerant to the medication... About 5 months ago, I got on Fentanyl Patches at 25mcg then increased it to 50, and now am on 75... I need to get off this and tried last month and I couldn't, it was too hard... I neglected to mention that it was not the hospice nurse but the nurse from the nursing home. We will mention this. I know that they use a Fentanyl (hope I'm spelling it correctly) patch and morphine by mouth. I applied my first Fentanyl 100mcg gell patch 4+ hours ago. Would it be safe to take 30 mgs Oxy IR while waiting the 8 to 24 hours I read here that it can take for the Fent to begin to help?

My pain doc is great and I use the 50 mcg fentanyl patch, 25 mg phenergan 2 or 3 times a day and norco if needed for breakthrough pain. I also see a pain psychologist who has helped every bit as much if not more than my pain doc. My question is: have you ever seen any truly successful treatment of patients with adhesions, and does your recommended treatment differ from what I'm using?

I found when I was on Fentanyl that I gained a lot of weight. For me, Fentanyl seemed to change my tastes. I had not ever been a sugar user (in many, many years.) In the past few years, I had been working out hard at a gym and also being very careful about what I ate. I got out of the habit of getting to the gym when I started having a lot of surgeries, but I still was careful with what I ate.

I'm a nurse and decided to wean off my Narco use. Im just sick of having to go to the pain clinic. I truly have chronic pain with MRI's to back it up. Yet, even with pain med nursing became so hard after my car accident. There are so many other considerations. What is your genotype? What is the stage of your liver disease? Do you have a support system in place? How old are you and what are your other medical conditions if any? These are all important considerations.

I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?

If the pain is still there, obviously the Fentanyl is not working and you need to address what is actually happening. Fentanyl CAN relieve pain, depending... It also dopes up your mind and body. You have no way of knowing this until you can think clearly and the Fentanyl prevents that clear thinking. Find out what is really going on and GET OFF THE FENTANYL, THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS!

I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.

So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.

The fentanyl should manage your pain much more effectively than the methadone... well I believe it will based on my personal experiences. And I have never taken opana, so I am not sure how much it would help. Good Luck.
