890735 tn?1261421725 I also am not totally sure about the exact equivalence of the percocet to the fentanyl, but like sandee said, it's a typical practice for doctors to start a patient off with the 25 mcg fentanyl patch to see a) how the patient can tolerate the medication b) if that level of pain control is adequate c) hopefully avoid some side effects of going to such a strong narcotic.
Avatar f tn Were you taking anything for breakthrough pain while on the Fentanyl? Why are you comimg off the Fentanyl and is your doctor on board with it? Did you ever abuse your meds? Are you planning on comimg off all your meds or just the Fentanyl? How do you plan to treat your pain in the future? Lastly, do you have any underlying health issues like hihh blood pressure or cardiac issues? Sorry for all tje questions but knowing thayt information will help us help you.
Avatar f tn They are givin me fentanyl. Which is a narcotic. But am i back at square one? Im still expieriencin the withdraws.
Avatar n tn Hi! Thanks for having this online resource! I'm researching the pro's and con's of the fentanyl patch. My fiance has been in a great deal of back pain and is prescribed oxy's, morphine and percocet. However, he doesn't take them because they the only things that work for him are 80's and roxy's that he gets from family and friends.
Avatar n tn Were you on anything before the patch? If so, what and how much? When is your back surgery and how will you manage the pain after that? 25 mcg isn't that high a dose and 3 weeks isn't all that long but Fentanyl can be really hard to come off and weaning off is best. Are you talking to the prescribing doctor about coming off? Whether you wean off or CT, the Thomas recipe is very helpful. With more information, you may get better responses.
Avatar n tn I see. So if I understood you, you're saying that your husband wants off of the patches mainly because of his physical dependency upon them right? I understand and felt the same way. I think this really needs to be considered further though, because of his medical problems. Have you sought a second opinion? I would do that and again talk to his doctor about what your husband could expect as a result of going off, as far as pain is concerned...
Avatar f tn I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.
1196338 tn?1265163728 Hello, I am new to this community, I suppose I should tell you a littlebit about myself first.. Well, I am a CP patient who was in a MVA accident a couple of years ago, and have been taking opiates for my pain. I am a little shy to ask this because I don't want to be judged as being an addict or something, but I always thought that you could tell that a narcotic was working based on that warm fuzzy feeling you get..
1279189 tn?1275244868 I have to say I had the same experience getting of the fentanyl patch which I was on for 2 years. I was on 150mci fentanyl patch changed every 48 hours plus morphine sulfate. It is also true narcotics can increase your pain levels over time. If you can manage non-narcotic pain medications to allieviate your pain that would be great.
Avatar f tn I use three per 12 hour period along with oxycodone, tramadol, neurontin and flexeril for pain. All the talk about Fentanyl has me concerned. BTW I am so thankful for this forum, whether or not one posts one can gain so much valuable information without fear of judgement. Kudos to sandee for keeping it going and thanx to everyone for straight up honesty in your replies to questions.
Avatar n tn That patch is he only narcotic pain medication you are going to get. If you think that 25 is too strong you can settle for 12.5, however if you had an opiate addiction I would think your tolerance is pretty high and you could adjust to the 25 mcg. quickly. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn as there is really no way to wean off of that dose of fentanyl patch as it is the weakest one,,,at least I have not heard of a weaker dose patch than the 12.5 mcg patch..darvacet would not be a strong enough narcotic to really help much...do be careful with the darvacet tho as it has al;ot of tylenol in it...good luck to you..have you discussed this with your doctor?
Avatar f tn I FALL A TIMES AND 3 WEEKS AGO I WENT TO THE ER BECAUSE I FELT MORE PAIN OVER TOP OF THE 50 MG PATCH I WAS ON FOR 2 YRS. MY DOCTOR INCREASED THE PATCH TO 75MG, I HAD IT ON FOR WEEK . THEN ALL OF SUDDEN I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY, MY BLOOD PRESSURE WENT TO 104/105 IN THE DOCTORS OFFICE AND HE DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. SO!! MY LIFE TO ME WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A DRUG. MY LIFE I HAD TO TAKE CONTROL OF. I FOUND COURAGE FROM , GOD FIRST! THEN MY FAMILY.
Avatar f tn I have a lot of pain at present after the hardware removal. My pain has not been controlled because of the fentanyl. I was warned but there was nothing I could do to prepare for it. I feel like someone was digging for hours in my flesh! I want to get off the patch as soon as I heal from surgery. How should I start?
Avatar m tn s personal opinion regarding my history of pain and narcotic meds. My pain is from DDD, arthritis in my back L4-L5, S1, sciatica left leg and also severe arthritis in my knees and I had to retire early as a Firefighter of 22 years. 10 years ago started on Tylenol 3 and slowly went to Percocet, OxyContin then to morphine MS Contin and statex to dilauded and hydro morphing ER to back to oxycodone and now on fentanyl 37 mcg.
8552937 tn?1398781959 What are you prescribed the Fentanyl for? Have you abused other pain meds before this? Do you take other meds for breakthrough pain? Pleasemstop chewing the patches and get some help for your addiction.
Avatar n tn I had a hip replacement a couple months ago and was taken off suboxone while placed on Fentyl patch 50 for the pain. I was on it for over a month and took off my last patch on Thursday. I am aware that Fentyl is very very strong so is this why the suboxone isnt taking away all the wthdrawal symptoms like it did when I took it after stopping vicodin? I know that no ones an expert or Dr. in here, but I was just wondering what some of you might think about my question.
614661 tn?1267273924 Hi all, I am looking for information regarding the Fentanyl Patch. I have been on the patches for about a year now after trying many other types of Pain Medication. I am interested in the long term affects of using the patch, risks while using the patch and any other feedback would be appreciated. Thanks much. Oz...
Avatar f tn Hi I have suffered with chronic pain for 8 years and I recently explained to my pain clinic that I wanted to try for a baby , they took me off my normal tablet form off pain relief and put me on the fentanyl patch, non of the other pain relief medications are safe during pregnancy, I also visited my obstetrician who backed up the pain clinic and although advise medication free is the only way to ensure no possible side effects that the patch is the safest way forward for a pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I was hospitalized a week, with one of those pumps that pumped dilaudid into my system and was also put on a 75 mcg. fentanyl patch. Because I was already seeing a pain management specialist prior to this accident, my orthopedist suggested I continue to go to them in regards to pain medication. The pain management doctor had me on 2 - 2 1/2 mg. of dilaudid over a 24 hour period (meaning I was breaking the 2 mg. pills into halves and quarters), and kept me on the 75 mcg. patch.
443878 tn?1205103196 I have been on Duragesic patch (Fentanyl) 100 mcg/hr for 6 years. I have gotten so sick of the side effects I began to taper off it 4 mnths ago.. I went from 100 to 75 stayed there 4 months then dropped to 50 about 1 month ago.. Last week I went to 25mcg/hr. I advise is no matter what your pain is.. GET OFF THIS PATCH.. If you think you cant eat now.. you wait until that patch really kicks in,.. you will be able to go for days and never want anything to eat or drink..
7556888 tn?1391972021 They made for me getting any form of oxycodone impossible, and I had to suffice with a 50mcg Fentanyl patch every 72 hrs. It was sufficient. Every time I went in my Dr.'s office for anything, say, every month or so, I'd have to urinate in a cup in her office, bring my meds in to count, the old patches on a piece of paper. Apparently, the Fentanyl was not showing up in the office quick test. The office quick narcotic tests do not test for Fentanyl...my pharmascist told .
Avatar f tn 5/500 mg Hydrocdone a day. The pain management doctor wants me to use the 25 mcg. fentanyl patch, but my Rhumetalogist seemed to have a strong reaction to this and the pharmacy treated me as if I am a druggie when I went to pick it. I worry about taking medication, but don't know what else to do for the pain. Does anyone out there use Fentanyl? Is it as addictive as they say? Should I worry about the amount of hydrocodone I'm taking. By the way everyone acts, I feel like a druggie...
Avatar m tn Because fentanyl is a very strong narcotic-100 x stronger than morphine- your patch is only 50 ug , but likely strong enough to give you some withdrawal symptoms, even if you only took it for a short time. If you really cannot tolerate it, it is always wise to discontinue its use early on, rather than later, however, it is suggested that you consult your treating doctor first.
