Avatar n tn I don't know abt. the patch, it seems like it would prolong the withdrawl. Possibly delay the inevitable but give some relief. Are you withdrawling voluntarily or till your next prescription ? Usually by day 5 a person starts to feel better and alot of the really bad stuff is over. I really do think the fentanly is a bad idea but I know how being addicted goes, we just want it to go away. I hope the best for you and I wish I knew more abt. your situation to give a good opinion.
Avatar f tn I have never heard of a morphine patch. I have only heard of Fentanyl, or duragesic patches. I am sure they are similar though. They could have euphoria, itching, nausea, dilated pupils, sweating, overall sense of well being, constipation, etc. What have you noticed?
1326023 tn?1274867436 I found a few charts and they are all basically similar. 315-404mgs of morphine is equivilant to about 100 mcg of fentanyl. Thats oral morphine. The IV morphine chart is different. I do know that fentany is one of the strongest opiate medications available.. I believe it is much stronger than oral morphine. At least that is what I have heard and read. I also saw a show on TLC (Dr. G Medical Examiner) and she also stated fentanyl is the strongest opiate medication you can be prescribed.
Avatar n tn Is this morphine or Fentanyl? Are you sure it's point 75 (.75) or is it 75? What is the admin. route?
Avatar m tn It is not a good idea to take non-prescribed narcs without your doctor's knowledge. A.) It can be dangerous. B.) If/when they find out, you'll be detoxing "really" fast. C.) It will mess up your detox schedule. It sounds like your doctor is doing the right thing. When reaching higher and higher, escalating dosages of opiates, the ratio of therapeutic benefit to side effects gets worse.
614471 tn?1221179194 ive just come off fentanyl patches onto the morphine so i can taper down, my aunt who died was addicted to heroin so i know a bit about it so i just wanted to know the equivalent so i can understand roughly how much morphine im taking. thank you to anyone that can help. kind regards, carrie.
Avatar n tn ve been using a lot because I already have a high tolerance to opiates, what I wanted to know is if withdrawal symtoms of Morphine are any worse than Tramadol, because I think I may need to progress to that eventually. I have permanent nerve damage.
Avatar m tn Oral 24-hour Morphine (mg/day) Fentanyl Patch (mcg/hr) 225 to 314 mg/day 75 mcg/hr However, this is just a calculation based on the limited medical information I was presented. Since I do not have your liver and kidney status, it will be difficult for me to recommend the exact dosing regimen. Please consult your provider using this as a guideline. 2. If you are on Opana ER 30mg, why are you still taking Dilaudid?
Avatar f tn I detoxed of 75 mcg every 48 hours of Fentanyl. All I can say is go VERY slowly. What kind of patch do you have? Fentanyl withdrawal is a bit different than other opiates. Not as bad as methadone but pretty tough in it's own right. But it can be done. At times I tried to go too quickly and that was a huge mistake. follow the Thomas Recipe and above all, keep yourself as hydrated as possible. Best of luck. You can message me if you like.
Avatar m tn So I'm on the Fentanyl 25mcg patch, switched from 180mg of Morphine ER because of tolerance. As I've said here before, but reiterating for those who may not know, it doesn't work for me. The Fentanyl that is. It was pointed out that the dosage is most likely low and I should be on the 50mcg patch, but I'm not a big fan of the patch in general.
Avatar m tn My wife has been perscribed fentanyl patches and has been told not to eat grapefruit, does this apply to all citrus fruit ie.
Avatar f tn You use it to convert your fentanyl dosage to an equivalent morphine dose, and then find the equivalent morphine dose to oxymorphone, Generally when converting between opiates, doctors will reduce the new medication strength by a certain percentage to account for incomplete cross tolerance, which is a boost in analgesia you get from rotating from one kind of opiate to another. You can find equal analgesic tables, and apps for calculating equivalent dosing online.
Avatar f tn I've been tapering down my medications (and made some great progress.) So far got off the Fentanyl 75 mcg., oxycodone 40 to 60 mg. every four hours. I had some pretty moderate withdrawals going off the Fentanyl and oxycodone. Nothing like cold turkey, but difficult nonetheless. I was switched over to morphine ER 30 mg. in the morning and 30 mg. at night. I already dropped to 15 mg. at night. I'm also supposed to take 15 mg.
Avatar f tn The morphine will help for sure, it will give the synthetic fentanyl to leave your body. Definitely ask your doctor about a taper on morphine. Google opiate equivalency and find how much morphine to start at, talk to your doctor about a realistic schedule. Fentanyl is stronger than morphine, so don't keep taking it until you feel good. That would be a lot. Stay at a tolerable dose until you talk to your doctor again. Did he give you any idea of how much to take?
1345254 tn?1325918041 Fentanyl patches are 80-100 times stronger than morphine. You MUST be opioid tolerant to use the Fentanyl patches. Opioid tolerant means taking at least 60 mg of morphine daily for 2 weeks or more. It is recommended that opioids are started on the lowest dose required to effectively control the pain. As tolerance develops, naturally more opioid is required to achieve the same amount of pain relief.
Avatar m tn Why is it morphine does nothing, fentanyl patch ( which I hate the process plus the repercussions should Any advice?
Avatar f tn IR morphine just 3 a day and 2 dilaudid a day. I also wear fentanyl patches 100 mcg/h. And 50mcg/h. Change every 72 hrs. Ok with me changing the morphine will it put me into withdrawals? Please help answer!
Avatar f tn Then morphine. 60 milligrams like every other day. Quit those. But like 10 days ago I got some fentanyl patches. Not perscribed, but ive been cutting them in fours and eating the gel. Like a patch a day for 10 days. This was before I read all the bad stuff on fentanyl. I agree it was extremely bone headed to do this. And I'm stopping. My question is how bad will the withdrawal be after only taking it for a little more than a week. I took something called kratom to help with the morphine.
Avatar f tn I went cold turkey. First the morphine and then the fentanyl. I called my family doctor to advise him of what I was doing and he offered his support and yes, he said the same thing, there is no substitute for fentanyl. All he could offer was another opioid. I have been through withdrawal before so I knew what to expect. The morphine wasn't a major problem but naturally the fentanyl was. I read up on withdrawal symptoms, stopped the patch and increased the water intake to start.
Avatar m tn Dear uscoastie, Unfortunately, Fentanyl can usually only be dected through GCMS testing. Fentanyl is in the same class as Morphine, however, it is synthetic and does not metabolize like other opiates, ie Vicodin, Morphine, Codeine. The urine test is testing for metabolites, ie norhydrocodone, hydromorphone. It depends on the test that is being used and that the assay cutoff is for that particular test.
Avatar f tn So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.
Avatar m tn m not a pharmacist) that the fentanyl patches contain any morphine. However, if your friend is concerned or worried that since he's had a bad reaction to morphine that he will also have a bad reaction to the fentanyl, I suggest he ask his pharmacist. They really are the best ones to be able to tell you for sure what the patches contain and if there should be any concern about a possible cross-reaction with his past history of morphine problems. I wish you both the best of luck.
Avatar f tn Me personally I like the morphine pump better than the fentanyl patch, I was on the patch for over 7 years and went to the pump. You don't need as much medication with the pump and your body feels much better. I had a pump for 13 years, the last one I had malfunctioned after 4 years and I had to have it replaced. I got an infection after the new pump was put in and they had to remove it, it's been out for almost a year now and I hate taking the oral morphine and diladid 24/7.
Avatar n tn Literature suggests for a 24 hour morphine dose of 60-134mg you would need a 25mcg fentanyl patch. So you would be right around a starting patch of 50mcg. As you can clearly see, a 100mcg patch is at LEAST double the amount you would need. If I were you and truly considering patch, I wouldn't start any higher than a 50mcg. In fact, I'd start at a 25mcg and move up. Its always easier to take an extra pill for breakthrough pain than it is to remove a long acting opiod.
Avatar m tn I have been using fentanyl subliminal (?) Tablet 400mcg for approximately 1 year when I was switched to the Subsys fentanyl 1600 mcg spray. I was on this spray for 1 year. I was abruptly taken off of this medicine (cold turkey). My only saving grace was some 200 mg Nucynta tablets that I had used for break through pain ( Friday through Tuesday) I used these tablets until the doctor could see me last Tuesday @ 2:45PM. I have been given 60 MG morphine sulfate and 8 MG hydromorphone.
