However, if your friend is concerned or worried that since he's had a bad reaction to morphine that he will also have a bad reaction to the fentanyl, I suggest he ask his pharmacist. They really are the best ones to be able to tell you for sure what the patches contain and if there should be any concern about a possible cross-reaction with his past history of morphine problems. My doctor has switched me over to the fentanyl patch, I am on the 75MCG/HR and switch it out every 2 days instead of 3 days as per my doctors instructions. My problem is I sweat alot and trying to find a place to stick it where it will not come off. The brand of patch is Mylan. So far the only spot that seems to work ok is the top of my chest right in the center. Does anyone have any advice to offer. I think they do not work very good if they are covered in tape?? just my thought. Thanks..

So im on an intravenous receiving antibiotics and there is a bruise above the sight of the iv insertion spot I was just wondering if this might be caused by the medication going in. It did the same hing to the opposite arm.

I was recently diagnosed with a more sever form of lyme disease and am going to be given Intravenous Antibiotics through an IV form for 30 days. They have to keep certain tubes inside so it can be done everyday. ve been on pain meds for a long time znd at high doses. And Fentanyl is a bit tougher than some of the other drugs. I tried to cold turkey off Fentanyl and oxycodone as well as ambien, ativan and more. I did not have the support of my pain doctor. They wanted me to stay on them and I was afraid that my tolerence would be so high that if something happened later they wouldn't be able to cover my pain. Then I tried a fast taper ... fail.

I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.

So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.

The fentanyl should manage your pain much more effectively than the methadone... well I believe it will based on my personal experiences. And I have never taken opana, so I am not sure how much it would help. Good Luck.

Hey buddy! Congrats on your decision to taper down. I know fentanyl can be a handful. There's several members who has tapered quite successfully At 50mcg, my doctor wanted me to switch over to Oxycotin but insurance didn't allow it, which led to going cold turkey. Has anyone ever gone to rehab to be medically detoxed from fentanyl and oxycodone? I've been on pain meds for about two years now. I've only been on fentanyl for three months but I want off everything. I feel like I'm in a constant fog. I hate the way I feel. The fentanyl is making me depressed really bad. Certain medications, particularly intravenous Vancomycin, cause such pain. This (and other) mediations are extremely irritating to the tissues. One of the problems is the drip was run too fast. Commonly the pharmacy attachment states "75 minutes" while the drip should really be run in at 120 minutes. he intravenous sites are rotated (left arm, then right arm) and an antihistamine is often prescribed.

Hi julie1224, I'm so glad that your Doctor took the x-rays but I know that you are frustrated that they didn't find an answer to your problems. :( I don't have any information about a "new" patch that is similar to Vicodin that is out. I couldn't find anything when I googled it. You might call your Pharmacist and ask him/her about it as they are up-to-date on every new med that is coming out. Did your doctor tell you what the name of the "new" patch is?
