Fentanyl in intubation

Common Questions and Answers about Fentanyl in intubation

Avatar f tn Hi I had a stent inserted 4 weeks ago. They should have put 2 in , but I had an allergic reaction to the dye so they had to stop. After doing a proffusion test, they thought it unecessary to do the second one. I still have pain everyday in the roof of my mouth and back of my throat,...is this angina pain?. the GT spray only helps for a short while and then it comes back.
Avatar n tn If a 1, 2, or 3 snip procedure fails, does it in anyway interfere with a future dilation and intubation? How does a dilation and intubation differ from a DCR?
Avatar f tn In many cities paramedics are trained in this procedure and can perform it on the street. In the case of a serious asthmatic attack it enables the patient to be "force fed" air to open up the most congested and restricted passageways. There are no afteraffects from being intubated. One a tube is in place it is "slightly uncomfortable", but not intolerable. There is no pain associated with the procedure.
511091 tn?1211149660 I recently had a colonoscopy done in a hospital, and when the anesthesiologist found out I had sleep apnea, he insisted on intubating me. He was very rude about it, and I explained that I've had 2 colonoscopies done in the past and wasn't intubated for either of them. I woke up OK, but I was so scared I was going to be awake when they put the tube in or took it out. He told me he didn't want me to desaturate during the procedure.
Avatar f tn It now makes perfect sense to me why you are in so much pain on the Fentanyl. Converting 360 mg of Oxycontin to Fentanyl results in 150 mcg/hr...this is conservative. Converting Fentanyl to equal 360 mg of Oxycontin with the opioid calculator results in 300 mcg/hr. This is the largest dose conversion that is shown in the fentanyl prescription leaflet that comes in the box with the medication. So your doctor's thoughts that you need to keep going up on the Fentanyl patch are CORRECT.
599170 tn?1300973893 /the eevening after operation i got 101.4 fever, coughing up gross green stuff called surgeon he put me on augmentin ( in my opinion anyone who has organs removed from their body should be sent home from hospital with antibiotics) 3 days later another fever, fluid comming out of ear, nultiple canker sore on mouth and blood in my urine twice, went back to drs yesterday.
Avatar f tn Hi I see you had your thyroidectomy in March this year. Normally the hoarseness is pretty much gone after the first or second week. You may find that even your vocal chords were actually bruised around a bit with the intubation tube. This can take a little longer to heal than an easy intubation. Grazing can happen for many reasons. The vocal chords are too far down the throat to be able to have a drink or food to help them.
Avatar f tn It is especially bothersome at night - I try to sleep lying down and sometimes can then other nights I sleep upright in a recliner. Some days my voice is strong, almost normal and others it goes right back to being weak. What is a normal recup time from a trach? Does this sound normal? I had a procedure to check for any windpipe abnormalies but none were found other than 'swollen tissue' around the vocal chords.
495284 tn?1333894042 Just awful...Fentanyl is bad sh!t in any form! I hate the stuff, even in a controlled environment! I'll bet she'll plead to a lesser charge though...
Avatar m tn Just curious? A friend of mine told me she's on fentanyl patches. We got into a slight conversation, becuz I told her I was detoxing off percocets.(proudly I might add), she said it was an opioid. So my question is, does opioids do the same thing as far as our receptors, and endorphins in our brains from percocets. With the patch she said she has never felt the things I described to her. I was just curious, does fentanyl patches work the same way as percocets?
Avatar n tn My name is Aaron Dickerson and I am writing to you in the hopes that you can give my wife and I some guidance on which direction we should go. Evonne, my wife, recently had surgery on her left shoulder to have some calcification removed from the socket. The surgery was on April 8th. The procedure was performed at Naval Hospital Oak Harbor as a same day procedure. Immediately following the surgery, she lost complete control of the right side of her tongue.
Avatar m tn The operation went all to plan lasted 3 hours in total, he was intubated at 9 in the morning and extubated at about 5pm, he was in ICU for 24 Hours and home in 5 days. he has got mild tracheomalacia but never required any medication or anything and the stridor seams to have gone except on excersize when its still present which I am told will take some time.
Avatar n tn Readmitted to ITU for drainage of lung then deteriorated with respiratory failure, AKI,hypertension and intubation WAs treated for Enterobacter infection from ETT, later I developed parotitis and was treated with Antibiotics, this was 10 months ago, and still feeling not perfect, now 75. Avatar f tn I've just been switched from Fentanyl 25mcg every 48 hrs to Oxymorphone 10mg every 12hrs. I feel way worse (pain) & was wondering if anyone knows what the equivalence is between the 2. I have a feeling I've just been decreased in pain relief. My dr & the pharmacist told me to wait a few days to "feel it's working" & in the meantime I'm in excruciating pain. Can anyone help with what I can do here? Btw...
Avatar n tn Scar tissue from a bad intubation. I am now hoarse again and having trouble breathing. They are saying it is from my reiter's syndrome which I was diagnosed with as a young adult but have had NO flare ups in many years. How can Reiter's Syndrome have anything to do with your airway?
Avatar f tn You need to stay very well hydrated. Someone with more experience with the patch will post shortly. Hang in there. Do you have Epsom salt for hot baths?
1187071 tn?1279369698 Jamie, Sorry I don't know much about the Fentanyl patch, but as Alison said, there are plenty of people on the forum that DO know how they work. Hopefully as Alison said you can get some great advice on how to keep it on, I know you already said that you had it on backwards, did you say? Or was it upside down?
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for this surgery in a few weeks. I am curious about the surgery as well as waking up afterwards as I wonder what my pain level will be like? Also...recovery time at home. If you can offer me any hints/suggestions or just let me know what to expect...I would appreciate it. Thanks.
3160774 tn?1343705010 Have been on Fentanyl patches 125/hr every 48 hours and 4-5 Percocet daily plus maybe 8 10mg Vicodin a day. How long before starting the Suboxone should I stop all of these meds. I have Clonidine for withdrawals how can it help. I am scared to death. Have never been in withdrawal from Opiates. I was told 36 hours prior but am so afraid of precipitated withdrawals. Has anyone been here that can give me some advice?
Avatar m tn Hello,I am a resident in the anesthesia department, 3 weeks ago I did a emergent intubation in the ER because they failed for several times(There was some blood in the patient`s mouth).During the procedrue I found that the patient had false teeth.I decided to remove the dentures, so as to avoid inhalation of the respiratory tract. When I was doing it, I felt the dentures stung my finger a little. The gloves looked intact and there was no visible blood on it.
Avatar f tn Severe cases should be managed under consultation with a toxicologist and may require sedation, neuromuscular paralysis, intubation, and mechanical ventilation in addition to the other measures. Patients should also be advised of potentially additive central nervous system effects from these agents and to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them.
