You may find that even your vocal chords were actually bruised around a bit with the intubation tube. This can take a little longer to heal than an easy intubation. The vocal chords are too far down the throat to be able to have a drink or food to help them.

Evonne, my wife, recently had surgery on her left shoulder to have some calcification removed from the socket. The surgery was on April 8th. The procedure was performed at Naval Hospital Oak Harbor as a same day procedure. Immediately following the surgery, she lost complete control of the right side of her tongue.
Just curious? A friend of mine told me she's on fentanyl patches. We got into a slight conversation, becuz I told her I was detoxing off percocets.(proudly I might add), she said it was an opioid. So my question is, does opioids do the same thing as far as our receptors, and endorphins in our brains from percocets. With the patch she said she has never felt the things I described to her. I was just curious, does fentanyl patches work the same way as percocets?
Readmitted to ITU for drainage of lung then deteriorated with respiratory failure, AKI,hypertension and intubation WAs treated for Enterobacter infection from ETT, later I developed parotitis and was treated with Antibiotics, this was 10 months ago, and still feeling not perfect, now 75. I've just been switched from Fentanyl 25mcg every 48 hrs to Oxymorphone 10mg every 12hrs. I feel way worse (pain) & was wondering if anyone knows what the equivalence is between the 2. I have a feeling I've just been decreased in pain relief. My dr & the pharmacist told me to wait a few days to "feel it's working" & in the meantime I'm in excruciating pain. Can anyone help with what I can do here? Btw...

Scar tissue from a bad intubation. I am now hoarse again and having trouble breathing. They are saying it is from my reiter's syndrome which I was diagnosed with as a young adult but have had NO flare ups in many years. How can Reiter's Syndrome have anything to do with your airway?

Hello,I am a resident in the anesthesia department, 3 weeks ago I did a emergent intubation in the ER because they failed for several times(There was some blood in the patient`s mouth).During the procedrue I found that the patient had false teeth.I decided to remove the dentures, so as to avoid inhalation of the respiratory tract.When I was doing it, I felt the dentures stung my finger a little.The gloves looked intact and there was no visible blood on it.
According to doctor he was around 40% of the lung capacity on March 2013 with Oxygen Saturation 92-94 after severe exacerbation and was on 5 days vent (intubation). We thought he has gone because the doctor was very pessimistic. The miracle was he has survived. After that incident he listened to our advice to see the specialist doctor. The doctor offered him Advair 500/50, Spriva and Roflumilast. He was having a very good time for about 7 months ++.
