Avatar m tn My shoulder was put back together with a titanium plate and 9 screws, and after 3 months of agonizing pain, my surgeon sent me to a pain clinic, who put me on Fentanyl. 6 months later, I went to go see a second surgeon who went in with a scope and found (and fixed) what was causing my pain. Two bone spurs, arthritis, and missing cartalidge. I tapered from 100 mics to 50 mics, and then instead of going to 25 told him I wanted it done.
Avatar f tn I think I am just beginning to feel my fentanyl patches, it has been 25 hrs. and I am getting a dull headache, which I usually don't get. Is headache a common side effect, if you know. The dr. didn't mention ANY side effects! But this new headache is...well. not usual for me. And I am due to put on the additional 2 patches now! I was supposed to put them all on yesterday, but didn't do it, following my regular drs. advice.
Avatar m tn I am into day 4 of no fentanyl {was using 200 mcg} for years. Trying my best to not go insane. Anyone want to chat?
Avatar f tn ( I just noticed something and am wondering about it. Since I started the Fentanyl patch last week, whenever I take my BT meds (oxycodone), I end up with a headache and sort of long-lasting hot flash. I never felt like this before. Initially I chalked the hot flash up to the humidity here (though I've always been a cold person and never minded the heat. Now I find myself putting the air conditioning on, which I NEVER do.) The headache goes away pretty much if I take 800 mg. ibuprofen.
Avatar m tn I am a 28 yrs old guy, who had right knee total knee replacement at 2005. ever since then I have terrible pain following me. I have tried many different pain medication and even TENS unit, all of those didn't work. After trying all those option at yr 2009 my pain management doctor offered me to tried "FENTANYL PATCH." FENTANYL PATCH really help. Before the FENTANYL PATCH, I use to took 8 -11 tablet NORCO (325mg/10) per day for pain.
682757 tn?1226867854 My pain mgmt dr. put me on Fentanyl 50mcg/hr 6 months ago after i had my 3rd spinal surgery. I told him from day one that this wasn't an acceptable long term solution for me. After a couple of months of being on the 50s i insisted that we back down to the 25s because I had heard how addictive these patches were. So I have been on the 25s for about 4 months. About 6 weeks ago i started experiencing EXTREME fatigue, loss of appetite and headache which were constant.
Avatar f tn I haven't been on this site since my insurance company sent me to THEIR pain management doctor, even though after 2 back surgeries, and countless procedures, epidurals, which did nothing, and countless meds, I had finally been doing relatively well with my doctor of 16 years. (I had my back surgeries in 1995, and 1996.) The new "Doctor" put me on massive doses of Fentanyl, which I had tried before without success, but that didn't matter...it's ALL about the money.
Avatar f tn My pain doc switched me from 4 percs to fentanyl, gradually have gone up to 60mcg's-can I switch back to per before it's too late?
Avatar f tn Maybe someone will know the answer to this. (I'm sure the NP went over it with me, but my memory is totally shot.) I am just not sure exactly how the Fentanyl patch works. I know it releases the medicine through your skin over a period of hours. I started out changing it every 72 but she changed it to every 48. What I'm wondering is, if I were to take it off and not put another one on, how long would the medicine still work?
Avatar f tn Hey all, I talked to my doctor and he lowered my dose of oxy down from 3 20mgs a day to 3 10 mgs a day and prescribed the fentanyl patch. Yesterday afternoon I put the patch on and didn't take much oxy. I'm also taking them orally now instead of snorting them. Not a huge step but a little one. I havent taken a dose of oxy orally in months so its a step in the right direction for me. Anyways by nightfall I was feeling depressed, sad and just crappy.
Avatar f tn t really change things, pain wise, I was taking 600-700mg a day. Eventually I was accepted into a Pain Managemnt Programme and they put me on Fentanyl Patch (25micrograms). They gave me NO information on what it was, what it did or how hellish it would make my life. Pain wise it was a godsend but the side effects were nasty. As the months passed, it stopped working quite so well. I started taking 100, then 200, then 300mg of Tramadol on top of it.
767538 tn?1276575320 It gave me a fierce headache and my eyes hurt. My pain was a bit better but I certainly could not drive. The effects did last 72 hours for me. Expect some side effects until your system adjust to the medication. I only took it for a few months. I developed a horrible allergy to the adhesive. Others will post with more information. Good luck. I hope it works well for you. Please let us know.
Avatar f tn So he lowered my script from 3 20mgs oxy a day to 3 10 mg oxy a day and put me on Fentanyl 25mcg every 3 days. Anyways, I put one on and don't like them at all. They make me feel very depressed, moody and tired so I looked it up and good grief, it makes oxy look like a walk in the park. Maybe he thinks because I cant crush them up and snort them I'll be ok?? lol.
Avatar m tn I have been unable to work for the last year and a half, and have been bedridden for the last year due to a severe headache. The headache has not gone away at all during that time. Five years ago I had a bad stretch that I was off for about a year but not necessarily bedridden the entire time. The rest of the time I experienced what may be considered regular bad migraines.
Avatar f tn I just started Fentanyl 25mcg patch this past Thursday, NO RELIEF AT ALL YET, & I have nothing for BT pain. I see my doc this coming Tuesday. I'm miserable. I was up to 10-12 10/325 Norcos a day with no relief. I have DDD, spinal stenosis, pinched nerves, lumbar radiculopathy, L3-S1, plus arthritis in my SI joints. I'm just about ready to make a trip to the ER for a pain shot. I'm not sure the 25mcg is going to work for me. All it's doing is giving me a headache.
356518 tn?1322263642 Once you are able to discuss the cutting of the patch with a pharmacist and get this straightened out I would encourage you to use the Morphine as prescribed. Fentanyl is 80 -100 times stronger than Fentanyl, depending on which article or physician you believe. Morphine is not a synthetic drug and is considered much safer than Fentanyl. I take morphine. I had the same fear that you express before I took it but I have not had any major side effects from it.
Avatar f tn Yes I'm just taking it to withdrawal off the fentanyl cuz I couldn't do it alone.
1006065 tn?1251478669 I went off Fentanyl 1 week and 14 hours ago. I was given Clonidine and Vistaril for withdrawals. Couldn't take the Vistaril...caused more nervousness and anxiety (turns out I'm sensitive to it and to other meds in this class of drugs!) I took the Clonidine and my blood pressure came down so low, I could not hold myself up, I could not sit up and my head was so heavy it was on my chest.
951195 tn?1315690429 i have been on the fentanyl patch for 4mths now because of chronic pain. i started at 12.5 then within a month i was up'd to 37.5 i still have chronic pain and a lot a breakthru pain for which i take tylenol 3 and clonazepam (for spasms). i want to stop the patch because it does not work for me .... can i stop cold turkey ... so far i have got myself down to 25 and am prepared to drop to 12.5 but what process would i follow .. how many 12 patches would i apply before stopping completely.
Avatar f tn I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?
Avatar f tn I am trying to find out the severity of the withdrawl of the Fentanyl Patch....I know it can't be good...it's a powerful drug!!!!! Can anyone help me understand or aid me in what I am about to go through?
Avatar f tn Who told me in the beginning that he want family dr. To handle my migraine and tension headache medicine. But noe he told me to get it plain without codeine. Well the family dr. Refuses to fill it PERIOD. THE Pain management dr. Won't fill it until next apt. A month from now. So were im at now is the f.dr. said"he will never fill it again" I find this horrible. And the other dr. Won't for 1 month my last pill was last Tuesday I had 1 left. And there was a holiday monday.
Avatar m tn If the pain is still there, obviously the Fentanyl is not working and you need to address what is actually happening. Fentanyl CAN relieve pain, depending... It also dopes up your mind and body. You have no way of knowing this until you can think clearly and the Fentanyl prevents that clear thinking. Find out what is really going on and GET OFF THE FENTANYL, THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS!
Avatar n tn interactions between prozac and fentanyl. My husbands meds were recently doubled. Prozac now 40mg and fentanyl 50mcg. and he is now talking in his sleep every night and constantly scratching at himself in his sleep.
1006065 tn?1251478669 I was prescribed Fentanyl Patches while in the hospital with severe kidney issues which caused excruciating pain. I was kept on them for four months and I am the one who asked to be taken off them because of breakthrough pain and withdrawal symptoms at the 48-hour mark of the patch life...I just could not justify staying on them with the withdrawals I was experiencing on a patch that was not handling my pain. My last patch was removed on Thursday, August 20th, which was 12 days ago.
Avatar f tn I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.
Avatar n tn I've been taking Fentanyl (Duragesic 100mcg) every 48 hrs for over 7 years. It was prescribed as a last ditch effort to help deal with long term chronic pain for advanced osteoporosis related injuries; broken hip at age 49, broken spine, collapsed spine. I want to quit because I've gotten to the point where I'd rather deal with the pain then being chained to an opiate type drug for the rest of my life.
