Avatar m tn I have also been eating nuts lately and grapefruit juice. My pharmacist leaves a little to be desired.
Avatar n tn However, since the accidental discovery of an interaction between the calcium channel blocker, felodipine, with grapefruit juice,1 it has now become evident that grapefruit juice has the potential to alter the plasma concentrations of many medications when they are taken by mouth. In some cases, this may result in undesirable clinical effects of medications.
Avatar f tn I read those articles too. Some of them forget to mention that the level of naringenin concentration needed is impossible to achieve simply by drinking the juice, or even by taking supplements. I've drank grapefruit juice for 3 months, and it made me feel great, full of energy, plus my gallstones stopped bothering me. Yet, as for HCV, my viral load actually grew by the end of the third month. This is when I agreed to start tx.

Avatar f tn To know me, is to know how much I enjoy googling about fertility. I came across grapefruit juice today. Has anybody heard/tried this? I don't know what the medical reasons are for it to work, but supposedly it is supposed to increase your amount of EWCM. I don't have hardly any (except when I was on EPO).
Avatar f tn thanks Research about the interaction of grapefruit juice with drugs suggests that compounds in grapefruit juice, called furanocoumarins (for example, bergamottin), may be responsible for the effects of grapefruit juice. Researchers believe that furanocoumarins block the enzymes in the intestines that normally break down many drugs. One glass of grapefruit juice could elicit the maximum blocking effect, and the effect may persist for longer than 24 hours.
Avatar f tn One group took the antihistamine with grapefruit juice; another with water laced with naringin, the substance that makes grapefruit juice taste bitter; and the third group took the antihistamine with just water. Analysis revealed that the grapefruit juice hindered absorption by as much as half over the group taking the medication with water alone. The difference is said to be enough to generate a critical difference in the treatment of many serious medical problems.
Avatar m tn However, tangelos, related to the grapefruit, and Seville oranges affect the same enzyme as grapefruit juice. 976606 tn?1263667593 I'm not sure what the official medical answer is regarding grapefruit juice and Synthroid, but I have never noticed a difference when I drink pink grapefruit juice vs. any other juice. I know grapefruit juice is a no-no with certain meds (my Mom can't drink it because of one of her post-heart attack medications), but I have never seen any warnings regarding synthroid.
Avatar f tn I have read that there are studies that grapefruit juice has properties that actually help with the HCV. Anyone read that? Opionions?
268911 tn?1213744781 Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with Xanax and lead to potentially dangerous effects. Discuss the use of grapefruit products with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Grapefruit juice contains a substance that increases the half-life of many drugs. It will therefore keep the levels of the antibiotic at higher levels for longer periods of time. Although antibiotics have some toxicity, taking grapefruit juice will not harm you at all and will increase the effectiveness of the antibiotic. Grapefruit juice should not be taken with other medications, specifically those that affect the heart rate or blood pressure.
