Avatar f tn ” Emergency department physicians nationwide have been reporting a surge in deaths related to abuse of fentanyl, a drug 50 times more potent than heroin when taken intravenously, the federal Centers for Disease Control said in a 2007 report. Federal agencies alarmed at the rise in the drug’s abuse through stolen patches also have reported increases in fentanyl-related deaths. Chapman said he has been learning about the dangers of prescription drug abuse in the time since his son’s death.
16785591 tn?1451596681 the thing that you need to do is find and keep the lowest dose of fentanyl that will keep the pain at bay. So next Wednesday I move to only 50 µg from 62.5. Nervous! the weird question now is I'm not absolutely sure exactly where the source of my pain is? I know one source has been in the S I joint on the right side but with physical therapy and strenuous exercise I can put weight on my right leg and stress the sacroiliac joint without it hurting! Horaay.
82861 tn?1333453911 My pain doc is great and I use the 50 mcg fentanyl patch, 25 mg phenergan 2 or 3 times a day and norco if needed for breakthrough pain. I also see a pain psychologist who has helped every bit as much if not more than my pain doc. My question is: have you ever seen any truly successful treatment of patients with adhesions, and does your recommended treatment differ from what I'm using?
Avatar f tn I ahve taken 10/325 percocet for years and recently my doctor has put me on fentanyl patches. She told me to try 1 25mg and if no help then apply 2 to total 50mg. I am wondering if I will suffer withdrawls from the change? Iknow it takes a while for the patches to get into your system, will I suffer w/d symptoms during this time?
Avatar m tn So I'm on the Fentanyl 25mcg patch, switched from 180mg of Morphine ER because of tolerance. As I've said here before, but reiterating for those who may not know, it doesn't work for me. The Fentanyl that is. It was pointed out that the dosage is most likely low and I should be on the 50mcg patch, but I'm not a big fan of the patch in general.
Avatar n tn Is there some other brand of the fentanyl patch that is available at one of your pharmacies? Is your prescription specifically written for the J&J duragesic patch?
790421 tn?1341230131 One major advantage of the fentanyl patch (or other long-acting medication) is that you aren't constantly trying to chase the peaks and valleys of pain control like you have to with short acting meds. I feel the other advantage that the patch has over other long acting meds is that it is LONGER acting, meaning that most long acting ORAL meds you have to take usually twice a day, whereas the patch is typically changed every 48-72 hours.
Avatar n tn i went to the dr to day while i was in his office i was discussing fentanyl patches with another paitent. i told them that i have always had to buy overlays to keep them on. they said to use a blow dryer to heat them up first then put them on they would stick better, i asked wouldnt this be bad heating them up they replied not if you do it while it is not on your skin.

Avatar f tn Over the past few years, people have heard about fentanyl overdose deaths and refused to even try the patch when their doctors recommended it. Bad press as a result of irresponsible patients, drug addicts and journalists prevented many people from obtaining the pain relief they desperately need.
Avatar m tn I guess I am one of the people who had to stop using. I started on Fentanyl 50mcg in Jan of 2012. My family doctor who knows my degenerative joint/disk disease knows my history but this is not his area of expertise. I was in pain after my surgeries and could not reach my orthopedic doctor or pain management team. My family doctor who I know for 25 years recommended fentanyl with morphine 15 as breakthrough pain relief. By June of 2012, I had NO IDEA of what this medication was doing to me.
Avatar f tn ve experienced a ridiculous amount of deaths in my 20 years(the last 7 years I have had about 18 people; family, friends, etc pass) and really there is no right or wrong way to deal with such tragedy. Everyone has their own way of coping of course, and we all need certain people or things to distract our thoughts. Of course, any substance abuse is not the way to fix it(especially while pregnant) but basically anything else to distract your mind right now, do so.
Avatar m tn Hi! I do believe that going to the fentanyl patch would be too high of a jump...too much of an increase in pain meds. How many Percocets do you take per day? Have you tried adding in something like motrin to help? I would think that instead of bringing fentanyl into the equation, that something like an extended release form of the oxycodone should be tried first. A low dose of Oxycontin twice daily, with the percocets used only for breakthrough pain as needed, sounds like a better plan to me.
Avatar f tn My neurosurgeon says I should try a morphine pump however I am refusing to go down that path. Fentanyl gives me migraines as I suffered severely post op the only time I had fentanyl. Does methadone kill the pain? I am financially struggling so I need to reduce the cost of meds. I worry so much about being an addict. I am an RN and it is surprising how many nurses treat CP people like addicts. (I was injured originally by a patient attacking me while on duty.
Avatar f tn Fentanyl can be extremely hard to come off. Withdrawals typically last longer than other drugs, other than suboxone and methadone. I came off Fentanyl a few years ago and it was very rough. It would be great for him to involve his doctor because he can prescribe Clonidine which helps with some of the physical symptoms. They may even give him gabapentin, which also helps with withdrawal and is non-narcotic. The Imodium will also help. Staying hydrated is really important.
Avatar f tn It's not the doctor's fault the government's cut everybody down from narcotics now because they got a wrong report that people are dying from drugs when it's a fentanyl that truly killing them the drug enforcement agency is Crackdown of people on pain management and Trump is going along with it they started back into 2015 when Prince died because they found a couple of percocet and hydrocodone bottles in his house and before they got the autopsy report back they made the law that
Avatar n tn I don't really know why I am writing. I guess it is a desperate attempt to find some answers. My dad died 3 years ago when he used fentanyl combined with drinking. I don't think he knew the effects that it could have and from what we know it wasn't prescribed. He had a history of drug and alcohol abuse. We don't know why he was at the place where he was found when he died and nothing makes sense.
Avatar m tn Experts in pain treatment and drug abuse prevention say the growing use of long-acting pain killers like OxyContin, fentanyl and methadone has been a crucial factor in a nationwide epidemic of overdose deaths, largely from the abuse of such drugs.Nationwide, fatalities from prescription drug overdoses are the second-leading cause of accidental death behind car accidents and, in some states, are the leading cause, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
184674 tn?1360860493 Total deaths: Alcohol use accounts for 3.5 percent of all U.S. cancer deaths, or between 18,000 and 21,000 deaths a year. Lost years: About 18 years of potential life are lost per cancer death. That means a person who died at age 60 from alcohol-related cancer would have otherwise probably lived to 78.
