I was in an automobile accident over a year ago, I have been on the fentanyl patch since then, still have a lot of pain but I want off this patch BAD! They are trying to have me keep it on a day longer but I am having severe withdrawal symptoms severe sweats, bone cold, feeling like i'm coming out of my skin, anxiety, irritability, and muscle pain.
If you buy Transparent Film Patches, they are the same dressing that hospitals use over IV’s. You can buy them in bulk all over the Internet and are made by several suppliers i.e Nexcare, but I preferred the ones made by 3M, TEGADERM (link below). They withstand sweat, showers, gardening…everything! They are made in different sizes and will be large enough to cover the larger 100 mcg.
m sorry that you are having difficulty keeping your patch on. I ALSO use the Fentanyl Patches - 62mcg - I use one 50 and one 12. Where do you place your patches on your body? I place mine on my back in the shoulder blade area. Some people do have problems with keeping them on, BUT fortunately I've NEVER had that problem.
I don't believe its too early. I believe you should buy small things if your having a baby shower, you don't want to buy something someone brought as a gift. but as long as you have the gender confirmed .. i believe you could began buying things.
I am in the pharmacy program that pays for my patched until i get my DSS and I cannot find the brandname anywhere due to the new DEA guidelines on sched 2 narcotics. i went to the dr to day while i was in his office i was discussing fentanyl patches with another paitent. i told them that i have always had to buy overlays to keep them on. they said to use a blow dryer to heat them up first then put them on they would stick better, i asked wouldnt this be bad heating them up they replied not if you do it while it is not on your skin.

Over a 10 yr period I have been being treated for many severe back problems.Over those 10 yrs I've worked up a tolerance and am now on 100 mcg fentanyl patches every 48 hrs and 10 mg percocet 4 x's a day or as needed.I've been on this dose for over 2 yrs. Over Labor Day wknd my doctor has passed away.Long story short,his father-in-law has taken over the practice because my old doctor apparently left 100's of us addicted to amounts of pain meds.

I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it.
Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.
So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane.
The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.
The fentanyl should manage your pain much more effectively than the methadone... well I believe it will based on my personal experiences. And I have never taken opana, so I am not sure how much it would help. Good Luck.

At 50mcg, my doctor wanted me to switch over to Oxycotin but insurance didn't allow it, which led to going cold turkey.

It is not like the original poster can just run to the local drug store and buy 3 fentanyl patches and slap them on. Now if the original poster decides to buy them off the street, well that is their perogative and whatever happens, happens at that point. It sounds as though the original poster is a compliant patient and will follow her doctor's orders regarding the switch from oxycontin to fentanyl.
