Avatar f tn Yes, they are safe. Most of us with cirrhosis commonly have an endoscopy and colonoscopy every year or so to screen and monitor the status of our varices. I have taken miralax many times with no adverse effects. What can more problematic is any anesthesia type drug(s) you may be given. I assume this procedure is being performed by your gastro and she/he is aware of your cirrhosis?
Avatar m tn I have to have to have a colonoscopy and related surgery that requires that I undergo anesthesia. I take several benzodiazapan a day as well as occasional barbiturates. Are there specific dangers I should be aware of (e.g.
Avatar n tn About 2 months ago I had anesthesia with fentanyl. They gave me 4 times the dose of what I was suppose to have- 100 lb. woman. I am having severe sleep deprivation from this, night sweats and the shakes. How do I get my sleep habits back? I am waking up every hour! I am due to have surgery in a few days and am afraid that I am going to wake up during the procedure. I need help, what do i do? Thank you!
1348686 tn?1310654243 Propofol (otherwise known as general anesthesia) is a lot more dangerous and has many more risks that versed/fentanyl and other sedation medications. If they use propofol, they will usually need to intubate you which means a tube will be put down your throat and it will breathe for you. I assume newpatient2011 is one of the few people that had a bad experience with versed/fentanyl, but this is not the norm and I truly recommend against propofol for something simple like an endoscopy.
1364139 tn?1280791344 I use the fentanyl patch for my neck and back pain and my pain management doctor feels that it is okay for me to continue to wear the patch during surgery (he is an anesthesiologist). I talked to the pharmacist today and he said that I absolutely should take off the patch, and even should take it off a few hours before since the medicine is still in the body and releasing so I don't technically need the patch attached to my skin for the last few hours before the surgery.
Avatar f tn Im on suboxone and I take 3 quarters a day of the tablets, im getting all four of my wisdom teeth removed and will be sedated, they are doing a IV and local anesthesia. I do not want to tell the surgeon because they will look at me differently. What should i do taper myself to a quarter a day and then not do any the day before and of the surgery? What should i do and will i be ok if i do that?
Avatar m tn Some months ago I had an anesthesia for a gastroscopy. There were usde the following neuroleptics: propofol, midazolam and fentanyl. I slept for about 2 hours and as soon as I woke up I was abnormally acting like a drunk. That being ended up in a couple of hours but unfortunately some symptoms and problems remained.
301640 tn?1302652334 I looked up WPW and it can be controlled with meds. The good news is that, like most ventricular arrhythmias, it responds VERY well to RF ablation. The worst case scenario is that you nephew might need to have an ablation later in life. It's not fun but it is NOT difficult on the patient. Ablation is really not terribly invasive and doesn't even require general anesthesia. Around here they give you a jolt of versed and fentanyl and do the work while you are "elsewhere".
Avatar n tn I recently had surgery and they said some anesthesia could trigger my arrhythmia. But they were more concerned with my PSVT (atrial tachy). It doesn't bother me but I can understand that they didn't want to be in the middle of my innards and have my heart rate pop up to 190 bpm. I had to start on meds a couple weeks before the surgery to calm things down. I'm not sure they worry so much about PVC's unless you're having couplets and triplets hundreds of times a day.
Avatar m tn Hi - Im not sure what you mean. Do you mean anesthesia during surgery-- like what damage does the anesthesia cause? What chemicals do you mean? I think that with 40+ surgeries you must have had major pain issues and thats how you became dependent/addicted. Lots of people became addicts after taking meds for legit reasons (Im not one of them though).
Avatar f tn You're thinking of the problems with using Suboxone rather than Subutex for pain management. The active ingredient in both of them is buprenorphine, a partial agonist synthetic opiate. Suboxone also contains naloxone which is there as a deterrent to abuse like crushing and injecting the pill. Without the naloxone present, you have no worries about your doctors needing to increase narcotics in an emergency or post-op situation.
Avatar m tn I agree with Spectda- there is minimal pain/discomfort involved. If you like, ask them about twilight anesthesia; they use fentanyl/versed combo and you probably won’t have much awareness or remember much, if anything.
7486246 tn?1391323511 t want my kids or husband stress out or being scared of my ability to breathe through contractions. So anesthesia came in and attempted to do a walking epidural. It was a no go, he came back and attempted 3 more times, and again no goes each try in a new place, by time he said its not happening I was already at 7cm. So they rushed to get me some IV pain meds called Fentanyl. It began working by my third contraction.
Avatar f tn ) I felt weird and shaky after the anesthesia and fentanyl wore off that they gave me before and after surgery (anesthesia before, fentanyl after). But I think I felt that way last time too. I feel a lot better but my insides kind of feel bloated and like I pulled a muscle, but pain is subsiding. I will see how I feel after sitting in my chair for 8 hours, if I can handle that. Thank you all for your advice. No withdrawal, no craving, no nothing.
1508881 tn?1313114901 This is going to sound dumb but I'm scared to have my RFA tomorrow. I've had 8 epidural steroid injections and 8 lidocaine injections and I was fine for those. But for some reason the RFA is making me really scared. Maybe it's because they are going to use a sedative/fentanyl in an IV that is freaking me out the most. I've never had any sort of anesthesia beside local. My biggest fear is getting all loopy and acting weird.
Avatar f tn I am suspecting the local anesthetic absorbed by capillary action, or IV anesthesia used during your procedure may have caused these side effects -- perhaps the benzodiazepene medication midazolam (Versed) given as part of the "conscious sedation" used for this procedure.
7282682 tn?1397237735 They usually use a cocktail of meds like Fentanyl, Versed, Ketamine or Benadryl. It won't jeopardise your recovery. They bring you out of it really fast.
Avatar m tn My first two surgeries I was put under general anesthesia. They informed me for this 3rd surgery I would be under twilight or conscious sedation. They informed me that I would be able to talk with the doctor, but feel no pain. Well, like most folks that gives me some pose. I believe I have a more reasons than the average eye patient for this uncertainty of sedation. First, the drug Versed does not effect my memory. I have received this preoperatively for my last two surgeries.
5611452 tn?1370971104 "I am allergic to fentanyl and demorol which are the main anesthesia that they use. I know this because every single time I have a procedure the anesthesiologists get all worked up and end up consulting with others and look through my records on how to deal with me. " I have dealt with this issue many, many times. Call and talk to the anesthesiology department before surgery. Often they will call you and want to know all the meds you take etc.
214864 tn?1229715239 He is going to have me placed under general anesthesia for the procedure, due to my having lost consciousness 3 years ago. I agreed, or shall I say that I had nothing to say at the time he was arranging this. Now, I am thinking about the last time I went under general anesthesia for sinus surgery, about 2 years ago. I had a very hard time in starting to breathe on my own. I guess because I kept falling back to sleep and would not breathe.
Avatar f tn Has anyone out there ever had to receive more then general and/or local anesthesia? I read that sometimes, so the patient does not cough or move during surgery, there will be a tube put down their thoat to be put on a breathing machine. This scares me - if anyone has had this done or know why its necessary or the pros & cons, please reply.
Avatar f tn please if anyone here has ever been put under anesthesia please tell me how it felt when you woke up. nausea, upset stomach, tired, ect.
Avatar f tn What kind of anesthesia are patients given when they have decompression surgery for chiari malformation?
