1264863 tn?1391118193 I was on Cymbalta and found no changes in my weight due to that. But Lyrica did cause me to gain weight rapidly and without changing my diet. Once I stopped taking the Lyrica, though, that weight just dropped right off. It can be really hard to exercise when you have chronic pain. I found swimming helped as it was gentle on my joints. I also found, through trial and error, that I was able to use an elliptical machine, even with bad joint pain.
3112530 tn?1434032033 I am seriously trying to gain weight. I was 150lbs when I started taking Fentanyl for pain issue. Fentanyl caused me to go down to 108lbs and have stopped the Fentanyl almost a year now. Currently 126 but want to go back to my previous weight. Was taking ensure but have lactose tolerant problems. How do I gain back the weight? Trying to eat a lot more pasta that I love but noting happening. Stuck at 126lbs for almost 6 months now. Any advise?
Avatar f tn Methadone absolutely has made me gain weight and I do days of total fasting, with no loss. I take methadone for cripling back pain. Will switching to opana allow me to lose the weight I've put on and help back pain, which the methadone was taking more and more with less relief?
Avatar f tn I read your post and I had been put on the same medications as you except I had 50mcg of Fentanyl but the 10/325 of Norco for pain relief of my DDD/DJD. MY EXPERIENCE... I have had many surgeries etc., to help with this pain. My family doctor put me on Fentanyl to try and help with the pain. I will say that I felt a bit drugged up but that is the purpose of pain medication right? I was on this regime for 6 months. Now I was told about looking like I lost weight BUT that was not my intention.
1264863 tn?1391118193 I am going into to see my dr and need to switch off the fentanyl. Is there any easy way way to do this and what would be a good option in place of it???? I place one 12mcg patch on every other day and one 25mcg patch. Main reason for stopping is weight gain which is drawing me into major deppression. Any advice is good advice.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone..I have been dealing with Firbromyalgia for 10 years now and for the past year and half I have been on the Fentanyl patch. I am currently on 50 m every 3 days. I want to get off of these badly! I'm sick of the side effects like not sleeping and weight gain.... I feel like I need to just clean my body out of all of it and see where I'm at with the pain. I don't even know!
Avatar f tn I know all these meds have taken my quality of life go way down. I want my life back and the weight gain since I have not been able to be functional has made me really depressed and not being allowed to drive over this has confined me to be stuck at home , and taking showers and baths have interfered at lot because with experience these patches are not waterproof as they claim. So any advice is welcomed. I am thru with this mess and want to reclaim my quality of life again.
Avatar f tn It just has so many calories and fat in it. The last thing I want to do in all this is gain weight cuz that will make me so depressed.
Avatar f tn I remember when I was doing my bachelor of nursing learning about a link between long term opiate therapy causing weight gain for 2 reasons - odema (water retention) and metabolism slowing down. I remember methodone, due to both its super long half life and the fact that therapy of methodone is usually long them - being mentioned specifically.
Avatar f tn Thanks - I totally didn't eat much while I was using or detoxing. I have finally gotten to the weight I wanted to be and I don't want to gain. I am trying to be good and eat healthy, but its definitely more and more often. I was wondering if it's a physiological or physcological or both. Sounds like it's both! And then of course more exercise makes me more hungry. Oh boy, this is not a battle I want to fight right now! But I will! Using is NOT an option.
Avatar f tn Hi and Welcome! Please excuse my tardy response. I've been on vacation. Remar has offer some great suggestions, as always. We have a member (Namnam) that has experienced the same side effect to Fentanyl - weight loss. Luckily she claimed she had weight to lose. It did level off and she didn't continue to lose weight. In time you may have experienced the same results. I think she's been on Fentanyl for about 5 years. It's the only thing that controls her pain.
Avatar f tn I already have a metabolic disorder and cannot gain weight. Its very, very hard for me to lose weight. Anyway, I know it can cause vision problems, can make you high at times, bad headaches, etc. I already have migraines and acctually have not had the headaches yet that almost 90% of people get along with dizziness and weakness. I had bad vision problems and was legally blind w/o contacts or glasses.
Avatar m tn I got hurt 6 years ago and had surgery, it was successful for about 3 years I was able to go to the gym and workout and then it got painful again caused me to gain almost 100 pounds in the past 3 years. I know that the weight gain is not making my knees any better because it's like bearing 1000lbs of weight on them. My job requires standing and that's when I have the most pain and can barely walk after a couple hours of being on my feet, that's why I only take the meds at work.
Avatar f tn I have a pain history for years and was prescribed the Fentanyl patch by my family doctor as a last resort. He was trying anything he could to get me out of pain and added Vicodin as a break through medication. Each person is different when it comes to pain medication. The Fentanyl has a slow effect working on the system. It is hard to know it is working when you are in pain. Eventually it kicked in and all I did was sleep.
696685 tn?1237757894 My pain doctor will do treatments on my spine but the steroids he uses only cause more weight gain and I have to refuse them as my back cannot support any more weight. Am so trying to stay out of a wheelchair or being bed ridden. I am getting so I can do less and less. Have started a website for people in chronic pain just to give me something meaningful to do and help others. Is there anything else that can or is being used in treatments for the spine besides steroids.
Avatar m tn I owned a dispensary for three years and saw the most amazing changes in quality of life within cancer patients. It really was heartwarming to see chemo patients gain weight every week. It may not replace the fentanyl but it will easily cut it in half and allow you to sleep.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Fentanyl for pain and all I can write about is how drugged up I was. Mine was 50mcg and my mind had a hard time with the pain issues. Sometimes it would stop the pain and other times, I didn't know what day of the week it was. The worse part for me was the weight loss. I thought I was eating enough but this medication dulled my senses enough to lose so much weight, I looked like I was dying. I went down to 108lbs from 150 lbs.
624839 tn?1221807899 It could also cause you to have difficulty in coordinating movements, and may lead to excessive sleepiness and stupor, and respiratory depression. If the Fentora is not controlling your pain adequately, the dose may need to be increased. But I don't think it's a good idea to mix it with Diphenhydramine.
Avatar n tn Starting on a relatively low to moderate dose is usual practice- this is incrementally increased depending on Meds . weight for weight Fentanyl is way stronger- I mean like 100 times stronger , but that's weight for weight . Substitution equations don't relate directly, which is why a decent professional will err on the safe side and increase bit by bit rather than have you OD. The process is called Titrating.
793219 tn?1238064201 that is what i thought but i was not sure im on a lot of med and they have been uping my lyrica and norco and fentanyl and im on a blood pressure med that dr said would help the nerves and wanted to see if this was somthing i need to talk to dr about the are going to be sending me to a pain management clinic.
1033596 tn?1252519593 I don't want to play doctor here or anything, but I was in a similar situation for several years. My apartment got broken into, then I moved home, and then my house literally got hit by lightening. I started taking lexapro for the Post-Traumatic Stress. I'd always been a bit of a snacker and stress-eater, but I a burdensome amount of weight from it. I asked my doctor about other alternatives to the Lexapro, and she suggested Welbutrin.
Avatar f tn When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.
Avatar f tn How long did it take people to gain weight, if any on Methimazole. I want to gain weight and nothing has happened. I've been on it for about a month now.
Avatar f tn This is the time in your life more than ever that you should be eating healthy and exercising regularly. Expect to gain weight ; that is healthy and necessary for most women, but if the gain happens too quickly you MUST Work with your OB to ensure that you are as healthy as possible. I would really listen to Alaysha's advice personally.. She's a model and one of the most stunning pregnant women I've ever seen, so I'd follow her rules for healthy weight gain personally lol.
Avatar m tn I have taken quite a bit of different antibiotics back in May. I have stopped taking it a about 3 weeks ago, maybe longer and noticed that I have a hard time gaining weight now. I have had bad anxiety and depression as well recently which may have caused my appetite to go down drastically but when it comes back I start to eat a lot and it doesn't seem like I can gain weight like I used too.
