Avatar n tn Prescribing both meds together may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition. The key word is rare. There are other pain relieving medications besides Tramadol. If I were greatly concerned about the risk of Serotonin Syndrome I would discuss this with my physician and request a change in the medications. I hope you will let us know the remedy to your situation. We will look forward to your updates.
Avatar f tn , meperidine) and tramadol, oxycodone is not known to possess serotonergic activity and has not previously been associated with the serotonin syndrome. The report describes a bone marrow transplant patient who developed severe tremors and visual hallucinations after he dramatically increased his dosage of oxycodone while on a stable dosage of sertraline and cyclosporine.
Avatar f tn I have had fibro for 5 years - at first a few Darvocet took care of the pain - I am now up to a Fentanyl patch 75mcg plus 2 Hydrocodone per day, and 3 Klonopins per day. Then about a year ago, I started shaking off and on, but about 6 months ago, the shaking and muscle contractions are constant. The doctor suggested to start taking Savella, but I have not read about anyone taking Savella for this and that it helped the shakes and muscle twisting.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lor-tabs now norcos for about 7 years I was taking 90 a month plus buying 30 to 40 more because I would run out, I got on them when I had back surgery and shoulder surgery, I am wanting off bad but have been warned about suboxon that it is harder that the pills. I want to do this at home. What meds do I need to make it happen and how long will the withdrawl last. I have been off for about 5 days and the going to the bathroom with stomach pain is over.
376940 tn?1241682007 Due to its serotonergic activity, coadministration of tramadol with serotonin-enhancing drugs such as SSRIs, SNRIs, nefazodone, trazodone, and mirtazapine may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A receptors.
Avatar f tn s or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and SNRIs, serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors do not actually increase the amount of serotonin molecules in the brain. SSRI’s are thought to block the reabsorption (reuptake) of serotonin by certain nerve cells in the brain. This theoretically leaves more serotonin available in the brain. However if you have low serotonin to begin with these medications either will not work well, or work for a while then "poop out".
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
Avatar f tn So again, were you diagnosed as having serotonin syndrome? And sex and exercise have nothing to do with this, serotonin syndrome usually occurs when someone mixes different drugs that target serotonin receptors, which to my knowledge Robitussin does not.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me both and so far i have only taken the buspar. I have read taking both could cause serotonin syndrome and scared to take the doxepin. I take 15mg x 3 daily of buspar and was given 50 mg of doxepin to take at bedtime.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for the info. I'm glad to hear you do not stop making serotonin and I know to go slow. I'm now at 2mg and still cutting slowly. It will take me quite a while to get to nothing. I have been working at this for about 2 years. Just in case you think I'm nuts, it is precisely because I stopped prozac at under 4 mg and it threw me into the worst depression I have ever known that I am going so slowly. Plus I have had a few events that had to put dropping on hold.
Avatar m tn There's no evidence anyone has more or less serotonin than anyone else. What ssris do is prevent the breakdown of serotonin so it soaks the neuron longer in it. This isn't the natural way the body acts, but these meds have helped many people. But whether you want to take them or not, or need them or not, is up to you. They won't cure you, they will only mitigate the symptoms you're having. If there is a cure, it's through therapy.
Avatar f tn In the brain without an ssri the body breaks down used serotonin with an enzyme and then makes more. With an ssri serotonin is directed to targeted receptor sites, which differ depending on the medication, and breakdown is prevented so the serotonin washes around longer in the targeted sites. Other sites, in turn, shut off because the brain doesn't see them as necessary anymore. You have the same amount of serotonin, it's just hanging around longer in the targeted receptors.
Avatar f tn i was wondering if anyone had any bad reactions or anything good to say about either one.. and if it seem to make a difference with the serotonin and norepenphrine.. compared to just serotonin.. and did anyone else have headaches that affected there vision with depression??
Avatar f tn If you took something else that increased serotonin, it could be dangerous, and cause what is called Serotonin Syndrome, which can be fatal. For that reason, amino acid remedies for opiate withdrawal symptom relief such as 5HTP and SAM-E, and anything else that may have a simular effect must be avoided. It can also cause sexual dysfunction. But it can also prevent premature ejaculation problems. Hey I'm not thinking that! LoL! Klonopin is a benzo as other have said.
Avatar f tn it is twice a day, i take for depression and hope to help on stop smoking and lossing weight and the Tramadol(not prescribed for me) 50mg taking for pain and hope weight loss. I do not even know if it is safe. buuuuuuuut anywaay. funny you are sunny66, I am mary66.......

Avatar f tn Multi mineral vitamin, just goo to take all around 5HTP-- this is what tryptophan gets turned into prior to being turned into serotonin in our brains. Serotonin is what is usually depleted if we are depressed and anxious..
Avatar m tn s are VERY mild this time around! I was really expecting to go to hell and back with this fentanyl withdrawal but so far it has been 10x easier than my oxy withdrawals I went through last year. Anyone have any theories why my w/d this time around has not been nearly as bad as last time? I have been dependent for about 4 months this time around, using mainly oxy/dilaudid/fentanyl but I havent had oxy in awhile mainly just fentanyl and dilaudid.
Avatar f tn I am working on alternative pain management methods, and getting the courage up to dump the pills once and for all.
653169 tn?1303446369 My doc recently changed me from prozac to Savella since I have alot of muscular, nerve, and joint pains. I stopped the Savella because it was making me feel faint and just weird and on top of it did not help my depression, but it did stop my nerve (including sciatica type pains). Has anyone else had similar side effects with Savella and is it possible to take prozac with Savella?
Avatar f tn t pass the brain blood barrier but 5-hydroxytryptophan will and is a precursor for Serotonin. Need to be careful when using it if Bipolar as it can trigger mania or serotonin syndrome but is very helpful otherwise. I also binge as well, looking for other things that may help suppress my appetite. I heard chromium sometimes helps as well.

454371 tn?1221297385 The pharmacist told me that you are at a higher risk of seizure and serotonin sydrome if you take ultram and a SSRI and commented about wondering why the doctor prescribed it. My NEW doctor today told me there is no way you should use them both, and told me to ditch (flush) the ultram and that someone on an SSRI or SSNI should in no way be taking that medication with ultram or ultracet. I flushed mine down the toilet today.
Avatar m tn There are differing opinions on this. On the one hand, it might ease the transition.
Avatar n tn 5-HTP is a naturally occurring amino acid, a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and an intermediate in tryptophan metabolism. It is marketed in the United States and other countries as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid. I have not tried it, but will when I emerge from the beastly first week of WD, I intend to. I have read that 50-100 mg. is an appropriate dose.
