Avatar f tn I found out today what meds they will be using for my diagnostic cardiac cath on Friday. One is Midazolam, the other is fentany. I looked both of these up and it says that they can cause lower oxygen or respiratory problems. My oxygen already goes low when I am sleeping. I am really scared now. Has anyone had these meds with low o2??
Avatar f tn t worked because twice he asked if I felt doppy and twice I said no. I had 2mg midazolam,100mcg fentanyl, 20mg buscopan. As I was given a coffee and biscuit after my colonoscopy was when I felt my sedative work. I felt floaty like I'd had a drink .
Avatar m tn what exactly are you taking? its rare that they use barbiturates anymore. i heard most commonly they use fentanyl and propofol...neither are benzo's or barbiturates...but what they use and how much doesn't really matter. what matters is that your anesthesiologist knows what you're taking. it can make a big difference.
47427 tn?1238439251 of the sedatives to take the edge off and injected 2 mg of midazolam and 10 mcg of fentanyl. It did take the edge off and made me droopy, but I was still able to take in what was happening. The nurse told me she could not put me all the way out until the EP study was over, since the sedative meds could make it difficult to induce the arrhythmia. The doctor came in as they were prepping and draping the access sites: both left and right femoral veins and the right jugular vein.
Avatar f tn used for this procedure. Other injectables may have included fentanyl (an opioid with a half life of 20 minutes), and perhaps propofol (again, short acting sedative medication), however, propofol is being used less and less in this type of procedure. The local anesthetic used at the injection site is usually a combination of bupivacaine (Marcaine) and a small fraction of epinephrine to constrict blood vessels to minimize bleeding or absorption of anesthetic.

1322157 tn?1279656681 Karch says when the system is overloaded, the grapefruit juice can “swamp” the system, keeping the liver busy and blocking it from breaking down drugs and other substances. Drugs that use the same pathway and interact with grapefruit juice target some of the most common health problems doctors see today. The list consists of more than 50 medications, including some drugs used to treat high cholesterol, depression, high blood pressure, cancer, depression, pain, impotence, and allergies.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar m tn I've had 4 bad reactions to anesthesia. My GP says it was midazolam and to list that as a drug allergy. When I do that, I frequently get interrogated like I'm some sort of nut case. I have to have a colonoscopy this year and from my reading it looks like midazolam is the drug of choice. Are there other options? I've read about propofol, but the cost and risk discussed in the various articles make it seem like a controversial choice.
1310633 tn?1430224091 s a 55-year-old African-American man with hypertension, elevated cholesterol, and a history of smoking. Florida will execute Henry with the drug midazolam, in combination with a paralyzing drug and potassium chloride. Midazolam is new for this purpose; it produces sedation, amnesia, and, in medically prescribed dosages, it lacks the ability to kill. Florida will make deadly what is naturally not by using a dosage much larger than ever given by a physician.
Avatar m tn Particularly as I had a past (somewhat distant now) with mind altering drugs and something like Versed (Midazolam) sounded exactly like the kind of drug I wanted to avoid like the plague. So after a last minute panicked call to the doctors office the day before I opted to go without sedation. I prepped up letter / notice officially refusing consent to the use of Versed and revoking any other consent given on any other forms and brought it with me to the hospital.
Avatar m tn My pulse before Midazolam was 59 bpm resting. After Midazolam it remained around 90 bpm resting (laying down) and pressure was lower than normal. It took about 20 days for my pulse to drop and pressure to come back up. I thought the high pulse was causing the pins and needles but my pulse/pressure returned to near normal and pins and needles face/head, ect.. are still here.
Avatar m tn I just underwent a colonoscopy yesterday and despite telling the doc beforehand that I wanted "bucketloads" of sedation because (and he knows this) I have a very poor pain tolerance and very high drug tolerance (am on chronic narcotics for multiple chronic pain syndromes incl fibromyalgia), I only got 4 mg midazolam and 100 mcg fentanyl - I'd have given anything to have had your dosages given that I was wide awake all the way through and screaming my head off as he wound his way ro
Avatar m tn s are VERY mild this time around! I was really expecting to go to hell and back with this fentanyl withdrawal but so far it has been 10x easier than my oxy withdrawals I went through last year. Anyone have any theories why my w/d this time around has not been nearly as bad as last time? I have been dependent for about 4 months this time around, using mainly oxy/dilaudid/fentanyl but I havent had oxy in awhile mainly just fentanyl and dilaudid.
Avatar f tn ) So, bye bye to the planned midazolam/fentanyl mini-sleep planned and hello to very small dose of propofol and mucho lidocaine. At this point I must tell you what I did to make everything so much worse and DON"T BE LIKE BEANO!! SHE STUPID-BAD!! If you are given antibiotics a week before the procedure, start them right away! Don't wait until the night before as I did. I had so much unresolved infection it made it very difficult to numb my mouth.
1279189 tn?1275244868 No, with fentanyl on board you will have no withdrawal symptoms from the vicodin. However, it takes two or three days for the fentanyl to reach a steady dosage in your bloodstream, so you may need to overlap with the vicodin a bit as your body gets used to the change. You will not get a "buzz" or as you put it, increased spike in energy from fentanyl that you experience with vicodin.
Avatar f tn Then a couple friends showed up and gave me a few fentanyl pills. The subs blocked most of that but I feel ok. I have to work again in 8 hrs. I have about 6 more pills of fentanyl. I know if I use them I'll get through work but I don't want to start a fentanyl addiction.i was wondering if I take subs instead if I'll just get sick again or if they'll help now. I need to work or I'll lose my car. That's the only reason I'm considering taking the fentanyl tomorrow.
1390687 tn?1281157239 How much of each were you on and for how long? The fentanyl withdrawal will probably be the worst... I had the roughest time with the fentanyl... and no withdrawals from the percocet/oxycodone... it all depends on the person and amount and how long the person has been using,.. good luck.
Avatar m tn how to rid a benzo addiction (2 and a haft years long HARDCORE) every benzo ranging xanex, valium, klonopin, nitrazepam, midazolam, phenobarbitol(i know is a barbituate),more or less klonopin, xanex, valium
Avatar n tn In most cases, the clinical consequence of the pharmacokinetic interaction has not been evaluated. However, for midazolam and triazolam, as well as for buspirone, impairment of CNS function was observed, and for the calcium channel blocker felodipine greater blood pressure lowering has been observed. In contrast to the increased levels of the other medications, the grapefruit juice interaction observed with theophylline and itraconazole was reduced plasma concentrations.
Avatar m tn My wife has been perscribed fentanyl patches and has been told not to eat grapefruit, does this apply to all citrus fruit ie.
1588890 tn?1297073916 s a month ago, Percocet 10 for breakthru and Lyrica for my Fibro. I am trying to quit smoking and HATE that gum! Was thinking about the patch but was wondering if it was safe to have both on? Any suggestion?
