Avatar m tn I am on Fentanyl and I like it. I dont like the dilaudid b/c it messes with my vision and gives no real pain relief, I like the oxycodone 15mg for breakthru pain...
Avatar f tn it is now May 29th and I did totally wean off the Dilaudid, and I was able to get a 50mcg. patch (plus a 12.5, if I wanted it) due to the efforts of a kind PA at my pain clinic. Normally, they would not have let me change medications before my scheduled appointment...but I think he could tell that since I was wanting to go down instead of up that I wasn't a risk. I decided to go all the way down to 50 first...
Avatar n tn I realize that both the Fentanyl and the Dilaudid have qualities that make you sleepy. I use the Fentanyl patch and I tend to get sleepy but it does help. You say that the Dilaudid makes you sleepy....does it help the pain?? it sounds like you have some Dilaudid left because you didn't want to take it so if you want to stop the w/d process, I guess you'll have to finish the script. The good thing here is that he gave you 3 referrals.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking my Suboxone strips for 24hrs. Went into immediate surgery. They gave me Fentanyl, several hydromorphone doses, and a benzo. Got out of the hospital waited 12hrs took my Suboxone. Been taking it for a week. Still feeling surgery effects and I have these weird withdrawl like symptoms. One minute the hairs on my neck stand up, the next im sweating only minor, then I get nausea, then I feel shaky. Its been 8 days since surgery.
Avatar m tn And as I said with the Oxys, many people have great success with Fentanyl, but it was not for me. Another thing, is that for some of these drugs like the Fentanyl and Dilaudid, you MUST be "opiate tolerant", otherwise they are very dangerous. If the Vicoprofen is not working any more, talk to your doctor...you probably need something that is extended release if you feel you need something every 3 hours. I hope this was helpful...
Avatar f tn IR morphine just 3 a day and 2 dilaudid a day. I also wear fentanyl patches 100 mcg/h. And 50mcg/h. Change every 72 hrs. Ok with me changing the morphine will it put me into withdrawals? Please help answer!
Avatar m tn I am currently taking Opana ER 30mg /2 TID for long term spinal pain due to breaks and fusions. I am going to try replacing that for a short time with a Fentanyl Patch to see if I have any improvement in Pain Mgmt. I am just wondering what regimen I should use to safely do this. For example. Is it as easy as waiting 12 hrs. after my last Opana ER and then apply the patch (it's a 3 day patch) then take another ER once the 3 days has expired?
Avatar n tn I successfully tapered off Dilaudid before (not with a Fentanyl patch though). Your on day 3 which seems to be the worst for many people. Hang in there....you should start seeing improvement soon! Maybe check out the Thomas Recipe. http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Addiction/Thomas-Recipe-Re-Posted/show/16?
Avatar f tn They gave me instructions on how to taper the Dilaudid and after a few weeks, each time I renewed the Fentanyl patches they started giving me weaker patches. I would have mild withdrawal symptoms for a couple of days then I would feel fine. It took 3v months for me to detoxify from the narcotics and boy was I glad when I did! I felt much more energetic and cheerful and had a new lease on life. I would hate to go through that again, to be honest.
Avatar f tn I have been in pain management for over 15 years and on 40mg of methadone. Dr. thought it was affecting my heart so he switched me to dilaudid 4mg every 8 hours. 2 days later I was in full blown withdrawels. After about 3 weeks I began to think I might live, Dr. kept telling me I shouldn't be having withdrawels. The dilaudid only lasted 2-3 hours, if I waited 8 hours I was hurting so bad the medicine was'nt doing me any good, besides it just was'nt enough. Next visit Dr.
Avatar m tn Dilaudid and Fentanyl are at the top of the list of the most powerful 'doctor prescribed' addictive drugs. Using either of them for more than a very short period of time will guarantee that you will have some major withdrawal symptoms when you try to quit. Addictive personality has nothing to do with it ---- when you flood your neurotransmitters with that strong of a drug - there will be an effect.
Avatar f tn I did some research and apparently morphine, dilaudid and fentanyl are all in the same class of drugs. Would it not be contraindicated to give a patient who states morphine doesn't work some other related drug? Obviously, I'm not a medical professional. But what happened? Why didn't anything work? Can someone give me some insight? I am not a drug user. I've never used drugs a day in my life, aside from occasional alcohol intake. How do I prevent this from happening again?
Avatar f tn This is why I asked, I always thought it was a serious drug, like fentanyl. Yes, like fentanyl? I only had an epidural with fentanyl when I gave birth and I did not feel a thing! if dilaudid is like that, then it's gone. I already flushed it. I may have moments of addict regret but it's better than alternative. Thanks, you may have saved me from that slippery slope!!!!!
Avatar m tn In any event, my doctor reduced my dose to 2 -20 mg oxycontin a day and 5 1 mg dilaudid. Well I might as well be taking sugar as the dilaudid. Its been two days now and I am starting to feel the pain again from my accident ( it will never go away, too much damage). In addition I am sick, my muscles are contracting and I am at a loss. I see my doctor again in two days. What should I do? Is this far too much of a reduction? Should I just go back on what I was on?
Avatar m tn Any information on how to get off fentanyl and if thier any other pain medicine that could help with less risk of addiction or side effects?
Avatar m tn Long story less long: Back injury in 2010 that left me disabled and in agonizing pain. I could barely move & ended up gaining 60 lbs. My surgeon at Pain Management performed 2 lumbar steroid injections & 1 in each hip, but the pain relief only lasted for a month. He was a kind compassionate man, but he left the practice in October 2011.
Avatar f tn Please help...I've decided to go off my pain meds and go on subutex and suboxone. So im on my second day of fentanyl 100mcg patch and dilaudid withdrawals. It's really bad already. Any suggestions how do you really know when your in full withdrawal. Before you start your subutex. Any and all advice would be appreciated.
1219328 tn?1266881841 I have a dear old 86 year old lady who decided to stop her fentanyl patch herself and did so.She has not used the patch for 3 weeks. She had wanted to also stop her dilaudid, but I told her no...take your time with that one.She was only takin dilaudid 2 mg twice a day. I phoned her a couple of days ago and she told me she was doing OK,but definitely had to keep on with the dilaudid. I had sent her all the vitamins etc. Maybe her innocence made her not realize the withdrawals she would encounter..
Avatar f tn The top of my thigh front and back feels very congested and very painful. I am still on fentanyl 50 mcg / 3 days, 2 mg of dilaudid every 4 hours if needed an 50 mg of lyrica which I am slowly weaning myself off because it is doing nothing for me. Then fentanyl is also not doing anything for my pain but I don't think I could manage weaning off them. I have enough problem without that. I would love to go back to work but I have fallen 2 in the past week.
Avatar f tn He is prescribed 2 four mg. dilaudid daily. I recently learned he was injecting the dilaudid. I am extremely concerned and feel helpless. He was a drug addict for many years, but was clean 15 years prior to transplant. I want to know what this drug use now is doing to his liver, even though the liver function test are O.K. They do raise occasionally, but never enough for dr's to be concerned. He also takes 1800 mg daily of neurontin for the neuropathy.
Avatar m tn The Medicare Advantage plan has paid for my claims in the past, but now they are only paying for 1 unit of Fentanyl instead of the 6 units. Dilaudid is not controlling my pain at all and I don't have a life right now. I feel like I have been put on a shelf to watch life go by. I need to know how to get my insurance co to pay for 2 claims from last year and allow me to get back on Fentanyl. The code is J3010 for billing purposes.
Avatar m tn I stopped using dilaudid 2mg orally, fentanyl patches 50 mch(?), and ambien on Oct. 18/09. My doctor prescribed these pain and sleep meds continuously for the past 3 years due to pain from an abdominal surgery gone wrong, and chronic kidney stones. When I found myself abusing all three drugs, I decided to stop them all. It is now the eve of the new year. Tomorrow it will be 75 days since quiting. This was not the first time I had experienced withdrawal, but it was the worst time.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum! It's great that you want to get off all those opioids!! I don't personally have any experience with the specific drugs you are on...but you are on some HEAVY DUTY meds!! Dilaud and Fentanyl alone are VERY strong. And then add all that morphine, both IR and ER and you're gonna definitely need some help from your doctor to wean off all these meds. If you work out a plan with your dr as to which drug to taper, how much to cut your doses, etc.
Avatar f tn s been a horrible 3 days of no sleep and suffering. I replaced the patch at 72 hours and was shocked and fortunately relieved by how well it has worked. OMG what a relief. I was able to sleep 3 hours, which may not sound like much but pain had prevented any sleep the 3 days prior and the blistering burn had interrupted my sleep for 2 days prior to that.
Avatar f tn I am still on medications to help with the lingering effects of withdrawal, and to this day I still have sleeping problems, jitteryness, and occasional hot and cold flashes and I am at 62 days. The worst should be almost over, just know that it does take a considerable amount of time to really feel better.
