Avatar f tn My mother who has cronic back and shoulder pain is being taken off of fentanyl 100mcg patch and 7.5/500mg and being put on morphine 60mg 2x daily and then morphine sulfate 15mg every 4 hours for breakthough pain. What I'm wondering is there going to be withdrawl or is the morphine going to have enough of the same stuff in it. If not what kind of withdrawl systems will there be to watch for.
Avatar m tn t know where else to put this, but I was recently switched from Morphine 60mg ER to the Fentanyl Duragesic patch. I thought the weird flu like symptoms might be a result of the new drug, but apparently it has to be withdrawal from the Morphine. I'm kind of miffed neither the doctor nor pharmacist even mentioned this could happen. I was naive and thought the new medication wouldn't create an issue with the switch, I was wrong.
1326023 tn?1274867436 My current pain management I know is a liar, because for one thing when I asked him about 3 years ago, what 300 milligrams of morphine to take every day is equal to in a fentanyl patch he told me that it would be at least 100 or 110 and that he would have to look it up in his charts to see exactly what it is. when,I last seen him,he showed me me in his computer that being prescribed 300 milligrams of morphine a day is equal to only 75 micrograms of a fentanyl patch.
Avatar f tn As a Schedule II controlled substance, fentanyl can produce drug dependence similar to that produced by morphine. Fentanyl has the potential for abuse, often leading to physical and psychological dependence, but may be a necessary evil to control chronic pain. Your doctor will have to take these factors into account before prescribing this drug. Tolerance is when ever increasing doses are required to produce the same degree of analgesia.
Avatar m tn Hi Phillin: I'm sorry to hear that the Fentanyl is causing you troubles. Your Doctor is correct. It sounds as if your Metabolism is in high gear and in your case need to change the patch more often. I too use Fentanyl. I am on 100mcg every 48hrs. I couldn't go the 72hr. and it wasn't because I felt weird or uncomfortable in my skin. I was in added pain by the third day and needed to change the patch more often.
16785591 tn?1451596681 the thing that you need to do is find and keep the lowest dose of fentanyl that will keep the pain at bay. So next Wednesday I move to only 50 µg from 62.5. Nervous! the weird question now is I'm not absolutely sure exactly where the source of my pain is? I know one source has been in the S I joint on the right side but with physical therapy and strenuous exercise I can put weight on my right leg and stress the sacroiliac joint without it hurting! Horaay.
Avatar n tn You will most likely be on pain meds for the rest of your life so I would suggest that you and your Doctor find the best one for you. I use the Fentanyl Patch along with Morphine for breakthrough. Ask the Doctor about the possibility of using Fentanyl. I find it easier on my system and I don't feel "high" all the time. Well, I wish I had more advise for you.
9129326 tn?1401849971 I'm a veteran, have been on Fentanyl patch 100ulx14 yrs.my Dr +orthopedics pa came up with regime that worked great, never asked for increase.NOW,pain Dr ,who four years ago, terminated suddenly,no detox,is doing it again.(I had to get congressman's help then)my new DR PC wanted to send me second opinion, since I'm still on patch.
Avatar f tn I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?
Avatar f tn t put you back on the Fentanyl patches especially since the covers were being sent to you by your pharmaceutical company. Go see your hepatologist like JayBay said to get the all clear that Fentanyl is okay to use for your pain. There shouldn't be anything extra special about the Fentanyl and how it is metabolized by the liver than the other opioid medications as all opioid medications are metabolized by the liver. Something seems very fishy to me about your story.
Avatar m tn If the pain is still there, obviously the Fentanyl is not working and you need to address what is actually happening. Fentanyl CAN relieve pain, depending... It also dopes up your mind and body. You have no way of knowing this until you can think clearly and the Fentanyl prevents that clear thinking. Find out what is really going on and GET OFF THE FENTANYL, THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS!
Avatar n tn interactions between prozac and fentanyl. My husbands meds were recently doubled. Prozac now 40mg and fentanyl 50mcg. and he is now talking in his sleep every night and constantly scratching at himself in his sleep.
Avatar f tn I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.
Avatar m tn every 12 hours or switch to the fentanyl patch. I decided to try the fentanyl patch since I heard great things about it and I am glad that I did. I was having severe constipation issues that were ridiculous!! I was experiencing severe bloating, cramps, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. I tried fiber supplements, stool softners, miralax, gasx, milk of magnesia and none of them worked.
Avatar f tn So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.
Avatar n tn The fentanyl should manage your pain much more effectively than the methadone... well I believe it will based on my personal experiences. And I have never taken opana, so I am not sure how much it would help. Good Luck.
Avatar m tn Just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with switching methadone 95mg once daily, to fentanyl patch 100mcg Hour patch? or know the methadone mg fentanyl dose equivalents?
Avatar m tn Hey buddy! Congrats on your decision to taper down. I know fentanyl can be a handful. There's several members who has tapered quite successfully At 50mcg, my doctor wanted me to switch over to Oxycotin but insurance didn't allow it, which led to going cold turkey. I'll be passing your post to current and past fentanyl users! There's tons of support here!
7303500 tn?1389997641 Has anyone ever gone to rehab to be medically detoxed from fentanyl and oxycodone? I've been on pain meds for about two years now. I've only been on fentanyl for three months but I want off everything. I feel like I'm in a constant fog. I hate the way I feel. The fentanyl is making me depressed really bad. It also gives me anxiety. I have chronic pain but I think I would rather be in pain then deal with the way pain meds make me feel.
