Avatar n tn Hello, Femara (letrozole tablets) is approved for the adjuvant (following surgery) treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor–positive early stage breast cancer. Femara is also approved for the extended adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are within three months of completion of five years of tamoxifen therapy. In the adjuvant setting, commonly reported side effects are generally mild to moderate.

Avatar f tn HI, Women with PCOS can have problems with ovulation and conception. Weight loss if overweight and insulin sensitizing agents like metformin will help with the PCOS. For induction of ovulation, drugs like clomiphene and femara can be used. If these do not help then gonadotropins can be used. Consult an infertility expert for an opinion. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations.
1500096 tn?1292945593 If you were my patient, in addition to recommending diet exercise and weight loss, I would prescribe Clomid or Femara. These medications in addition to the Glucophage might help you to ovulate and conceive. It definitely sounds like you have PCOS, and there is a good chance that you will eventually conceive, but taking Clomid or Femara would definitely speed up the process for you. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I don't know about Femara but I have gained weight on Tamoxifen. I get to stop taking it next month and I can't wait to see if I lose some of this weight.
Avatar n tn how long have you been on it? Have you gained weight? After 5 yrs on tamoxifen and now femara my weight keeps climbing and i never had a weight problem, i try to watch what i eat but the belly fat keeps coming.
Avatar n tn AND EVEN IF YOU TOLD HIM YOU HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT, THEY STILL WORRY ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS.
Avatar f tn With the Femara 5mg(CD3-7) and Progesterone (CD16-25) medication, I seem to have put on weight and become quiet moody. Have headaches in the evening usually on CD17 and CD18 and a bloated feeling most of teh days , have observed this in the last few cycles. Is this common with Femara or Progesterone. A bit worried bcos, I also have PCOS and with the weight increase it might hamper my chances of conception. Any advise what could be the reasonand I need to do ?
Avatar n tn I have been on 3 rounds of clomid and was pregnant on 50mg but lost my baby at 11 weeks. I have now been on Femara once and trying the second time uping my dose to 5mg. I ovulate fine on my own, but I am not producing large enough follicles. Is there something else I should be taking in conjuction w/Femera? We are currently using iui w/donor sperm.
1442873 tn?1284246187 A little thing to add - keep up with the exercise! I started walking my son to and from school to help me lose a little weight (I was diagnosed with pcos when he was 2 or 3). I lost something like 10 pounds in 2 months and 2 months after that I conceived on accident! We were told by my doctor that we didn't need to prevent pregnancy because I would never get pregnant. So, it's definitely possible!
Avatar n tn Hi! From your story, you almost certainly DO have PCOS. This is simply a catch all term for failure to ovulate. Some women have lots of tiny cysts on their ovaries, and others don't. It can improve with weight loss, but there are also thin people who have PCOS. Basically, to simplify, PCOS is a hormone imbalance that causes failure to ovulate. If you don't ovulate, you won't have a period.

Avatar f tn You may wish to consider starting Metformin, because sometimes it can not only regulate cycles, but also help with weight loss. There are some side effects that you will definitely want to discuss with your doctor first, but it works well for some women. IF you do decide to give it a try, remember that regular periods often means normal fertility, so if you don't want a baby now . . . If not, you're already on the right track with weight loss, and exercise. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I've noticed that since I've begun fertility meds such as Clomid, Femara, Gonal F, etc.... my hair has been falling out. Not large chunks of hair, but strands - enough that I've noticed and so has my hair dresser. It's not breakage, it comes from the root. I don't have bald spots and according to my hair dresser it's not alarming to her, but it is to me. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, are you doing anything to correct it?
796506 tn?1370188305 I do NOT have the insulin resistance/diabetes associated with PCOS but I still took Metformin. It helped me with weight loss and I believe, ultimately, allowed my body to ovulate on its own. I just felt BETTER on Met.
Avatar f tn I had to take it regulate my cycle after massive weight lose from gastric bypass. I got pregnant the mouth after I finished a 3 month cycle.
Avatar n tn i am now on femara. i was wondering if you are going on it. im on femara for about 2 1/2 months and not that happy on it. i was wondering if your dr. prescribed it for you and if not why.
Avatar f tn ll have no problem staying on this drug. Tamoxifen I thought was easy except for weight gain and hot flashes. I heard awful side effects for Femara but Im trying not to believe everything I read as everyone is an individual so side effects vary. Hope you are doing better. Take Care.
Avatar f tn Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Incorporate exercises in daily routine to promote weight loss (to be in ideal weight for height range). Maintain low fat and low carb diet.
1515688 tn?1328151024 Has anyone here tried Femara? I have 5 tablets that a friend of mine had leftover (unexpired & still in the pack), and I'm thinking about trying it on cd3-7 next cycle. I'm 5 dpo right now, but I don't think there's much of a chance since we could only BD 3 days prior to ovulation. Although I have read conflicting stories on the Internet that that is "prime" time to BD. :-) Thanks all!
Avatar f tn I was on Femara and Necon for 3 months to treat endometriosis. 2 weeks into treatment I started getting side effects like scary muscle pains throughout my body especially in my chest and legs, unable to concentrate and focus, memory loss, joint pain ,anxiety, rage, depression... the list goes on and on. Every time I would call the prescribing dr with a side effect he would tell me it is not from the medication.
1524060 tn?1291358776 I am waiting for my period now still, since that loss (nearly 6 weeks now). We will do IUI again in january, with Femara 5 mg.
Avatar f tn s the case for you, you might ovulate irregularly but your best chance to get pregnant may involve some medical intervention. If you are overweight, work on the weight loss as that can help manage PCOS. (If you are instead underweight, that could be a problem too -- but unlikely PCOS and more likely a nutritional deficiency.) Keep in mind too that you are very young, and it's not a bad thing to have been married a while before adding children. Good luck! Anna Short http://www.
Avatar f tn I have had increasing debilitating severe pain in left hip, left foot and both hands. DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's.
