Femara (letrozole tablets) is approved for the adjuvant (following surgery) treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor–positive early stage breast cancer.
Femara is also approved for the extended adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are within three months of completion of five years of tamoxifen therapy.
In the adjuvant setting, commonly reported side effects are generally mild to moderate.
I don't know about Femara but I have gained weight on Tamoxifen. I get to stop taking it next month and I can't wait to see if I lose some of this weight.
t experienced headaches while taking shots, but I agree about the hot flashes! Have you experienced weight gain with the shots? I gain about 3-5 lbs with each round of shots. Luckily it has already started to drop from being off of it for two months. Do you get cycts on your ovaries when you go back after you start your cycle?
m on an antidepressant but I still get down days. I also have some weight gain. How can I keep the weight off it I hurt so bad when I exercise? The Doctor said I should take Advil for the pain and that things will get better. Everyone that I know has taken themselves off of this med due to the side effects. I am 58 yrs old. and I feel like a 100 lately being on this medication.

Only one more day on femara, and started the follistim at 225iu last night. It burns after injecting. I have had 5 pound weight gain since starting Femara. I think it is fluid retention. My stomach is bloated also. I am also on doxycycline and dexamethosone. Is the fluid retention normal, esp the abdominal bloating? I also had nausea and vomiting this morning, but not sure if that is related to starting the follistim or due to not eating before taking the steroid and antibiotic.
I have been on tamoxifen and currently on femara. I was having major depression and weight gain with the femara so I took a one month break from the meds (with dr approval). Within a few days, I felt mentally and physically more like my old self (pre-cancer). Unfortunately, I cannot stay off the medicine due to having lymph node involvement. However, during week 3 of no meds, I noticed a bloody discharge one night and then had a light period for the next several days.
I also walk and follow a low-fat diet but these do not seem to be making a difference but then perhaps I would have put on more weight without the diet and exercise. I really think that the weight gain has more to do with being pushed straight into menopause and I hope that it will settle in time. I have experienced sore muscles and joints as well but persist with walking and Pilates.
With the Femara 5mg(CD3-7) and Progesterone (CD16-25) medication, I seem to have put on weight and become quiet moody. Have headaches in the evening usually on CD17 and CD18 and a bloated feeling most of teh days , have observed this in the last few cycles. Is this common with Femara or Progesterone. A bit worried bcos, I also have PCOS and with the weight increase it might hamper my chances of conception. Any advise what could be the reasonand I need to do ?
I posted a question on 10-22-07 asking for a opinion as to whether or not you all think I should take tamoxfin. I explained that I first took chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, then had surgery(total mastectomy) and radiation therapy. The removal of my lymph nodes under my arm showed no signs of cancer in them. As of today, I am cancer free.(?????) My doctor wants me to take tamoxifen for 5 years.
I am healthy and have no medical problems other than my ED, and am on no medications. I had a healthy pregnancy and my son weight 7 lbs when he was born and he is very healthy and active now. It was a full term pregnancy and easy delivery with no complications.
Treatment is for 3 months at a time, however, the treatment puts into menopause - hot flashes, depression, weight gain, etc. There is no ovulation, one becomes infertile. I was told by the doc, my chances are slim ....so they will try everything after my treatment to get me preg. After the last treatment (31 July 2008), I will go back to determine as to whether the endo has actually cleared or not. I am so eager to know what's the next steps...
