Femara vs aromasin

Common Questions and Answers about Femara vs aromasin

femara

Avatar n tn t want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I tried first tamoxifen made me tired and nausous then I tried Femara, the pain was so great in my joints and muscle went off it I am now on Arimidex and 5 months into it it seems ok. I have gone off it once before one of my races because of pain. Arimidex is in the same family as femara only a little gentler..As my doctor said he doesn't know if it will help and it is not chemo but I am 16 months past chemo and have been on an estrogen blocker the whole time.
503702 tn?1276176714 Just started arimidex for 9 days and had nasuea switch me to Femara. Anyone having good results? Im in recurrence of OVCA after 15thms. did chemo and avastin trial. Thank you.
135691 tn?1271097123 As you may remember, I am currently low grade, estrogen receptor positive. I have been on Aromasin for 17 months. I tried Femara first, but it didn't agree with me. At the time I was taking it, I was just getting over the severe reactions I'd had from Gemzar, so I can't really say if it was the Femara or not. But at any rate, my doctor at MD Anderson switched me to Aromasin, and it is working for me. The main side effect I have from it is bone pain.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm on a drug similar to Femara. If the cancer is estrogen receptive, Femara either starves or kills the estrogen so that cancer cells can't grow. I will be on Aromasin, in the Femara family, for the rest of my life, unless they come up with something better! Check the internet for clinical trial updates; Aromasin is currently in clinical trials for ovarian cancer. Previously it was only used for breast cancer. It's known to cut estrogen production by up to 95%.
107366 tn?1305680375 I have been on Aromasin for about 12 weeks. I took Femara for a short time back last fall, and again this spring. Are any of you on Aromasin, Femara, Tamoxifen, or Arimidex experiencing joint/bone pain? If so, do you find it getting worse the longer you are on it? I finally got off IV chemo in favor of taking AI's because IV chemo was doing too much damage and I needed a break. My cancer is highly estrogen positive so AI's seem to be the choice for me at the moment.
Avatar n tn t used Femara yet. I started on Arimidex and after 6 months had to switch to Aromasin because with Arimidex moving my thumbs became extremely painful and it was moving into my elbow and then my hip. Things improved dramatically, then after a year on Aromasin my hips started aching and I dreaded getting out of bed and standing up. I am convinced it is due to the Aromasin. I'm just 53 so that seemed ridiculous.
Avatar n tn One of the anti-estrogen drugs, Aromasin, is in the same family as Femara. These drugs are very new and thus far had been used only with breast cancer patients. Aromasin is now in clinical trials for ovarian cancer recurrence. I did not wait to see the outcome of the trials; I got a prescription for it and have been on it for almost a year. It cuts the estrogen production in the body, so that if your cancer is estrogen receptive, it's less likely that it will recur.
Avatar n tn I am also estrogen receptor positive and have recently stopped IV chemo in favor of Aromasin. I was on Femara for a while last fall, and again in April. Both times, I ended up with blood clots. Never has been proven it was caused by Femara, but better safe than sorry. Because of my risk for clots, Tamoxifen would not be a choice for me. I have only been on Aromasin for about two weeks, so I can't really give you an accurate evaluation of it just yet.
Avatar f tn There are several that you can google. Femara, Aromatase, Aromasin, and Tamaxifen. Some of these inhibitors are also for Breast Cancer. Sorry if my spelling is wrong. There is another inhibitor called Avistan (not for hormones). Hope this helps...
Avatar n tn If her cancer is estrogen receptor positive as well as being slow growing, then the hormone therapies like Femara, Aromasin, Arimidex, etc. seem to be the best choice at the moment. Those are drugs that were primarily given to post chemo breast cancer patients since breast cancer is usually estrogen related.
492898 tn?1222243598 I know everyone is different and all that but thought maybe someone can share their experiences or other knowledge about Aromasin? I was on Tamoxifen, then switched to Arimidex which was a nightmare. Then Femara which was a little less horrible but too horrible to continue. The I went back on tamoxifen and today I saw my oncologist and he wants me to try Aromasin. He says the reason is mostly because of my taking prozac, and the problems this can cause with Tamoxifen.
Avatar n tn I was on femara and the pain was so bad. I thought my back and knees hurt from exercise the pain was from femara. all my bones hurt. when i went off it within 10 days the pain was gone. I am now on aromatex although not purfect the pain is minimal and if i swim alot it helps with the pain. there are other drugs that do the same.
Avatar f tn I also believe it's the Femara. I had similar issues with Tamoxifen and Aromasin.

Avatar n tn Then I tried Femara and on that one I lasted for a few weeks before I quit, and then Aromasin and that was about one day. (All of the above except for the Tamoxifen are Aromatase Inhibitors) But of all the things you have said, the oxicontin addition is the worse, I think, and really irrisposible to hand out at this time and for this reaon.
534810 tn?1213327718 I, too, have joint pain and swelling in hands (and sometimes feet) w/femara. I have developed a trigger finger and dequervains tendonitis in bilateral wrist w/thumb pain. Had to go off med for a month and also have sites injected w/cortisone. Never had any of this before. Oncologist said she had seen trigger finger before no dequervains tendonitis? Wondering if anyone out there has had any of these side effects? And what do you think of this? I am miserable w/all this discomfort.
Avatar f tn t indicated with Femara like they are with Tomoxifen), but we switched to Aromasin, another Aromatase Inhibitor that works the same way (they block estrogen and starve the cancer cells). I have had wonderful results with it. In fact, I am in Houston right now for my 3 month check up at MD Anderson, and will find out Monday if I am in remission again or not. I had all my tests today. My CA 125 fell from 196 back in the summer to 53 in September. I'm anxious to see how things look now.
962875 tn?1314210036 As many of you know or have experienced, the AIs ( Arimidex, Femara, Aromasin), which are used to treat hormone-receptor positve breast cancer, often produce joint or muscle pain as a side effect. For about 20% of women, the side effects are so severe that they stop taking their medicine, which increases the risk that their breast cancer will recur.
Avatar f tn At that time, I remember reading somewhere that headaches are the only symptom that are typically worse with Femara vs. Clomid. Hopefully it works for you both soon and you don't have to endure the migranes anymore! Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Eventually a few months later I get to an actual fertility specialist. He put me on femara 2.5mg twice a day. I had no side effects from femara, whereas with clomid the side effects were terrible (moody, hot flashes, sore boobs, etc) femara was wonderful compared to clomid! my first cycle on femara I did not ovulate, but on my second round of femara i used hcg injection and got pregnant that way. good luck!!
Avatar f tn Did you first try Arimidex or Femara? My Onco. mentioned that Aromasin is somewhat different in chemical composition than Arimidex & Femara, and thinks that is the drug that may work for me. However, I am going to try Arimidex first; whenever my trigger thumb & Carpel Tunnel improve to 100%. Did you have any problem with numbness to your hands at night? God Bless.
Avatar n tn If Femara only prevents the production of oestrogen that feeds the cancer. What are the tests needed to check if there the HER 2 positive 3+ cancer is coming back? Thank you!
