Femara vs arimidex

Common Questions and Answers about Femara vs arimidex

femara

Avatar n tn t want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar n tn t any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..
503702 tn?1276176714 Just started arimidex for 9 days and had nasuea switch me to Femara. Anyone having good results? Im in recurrence of OVCA after 15thms. did chemo and avastin trial. Thank you.
Avatar f tn arimidex or femara, has this common side effect of diminishing bone mineral density that may cause your pain. I believe that femara may cause the same symptoms. A plausible brilliant solution is to take these drugs together with bone protective agents such as fosamax, though the effect of pain lowering may not be immediate.
Avatar n tn Hi Sue, I started Femara 2 days ago. Day #1 after getting up off the sofa after watching tv and reclining I became dizzy. Day #2 had mild strange pain in nipple area of affected breast and same in opposite breast. My bones are strong at this point, & Oncologist said if you start with strong bones you will most likely end with strong bones. I was afraid of damage to my heart after 33 RT's so had an Echo Cardiogram done.
1030058 tn?1252253572 What are my risks if I choose to just stop the Arimidex and not continue with a change to Femara...My oncologist thinks the risk is there because of the Her2neu but she herself says she is extremely conservative. Also I did not receive any herceptin, I was 18month to 2 years post diagnosis when that was cleared and my previous oncologist (in California) felt the risk outweighed the benefits for me. I would like some advice to help me make an informed choice.
Avatar f tn After 5 treatments (5 weeks), I am about 65% bettter, and decided to remain off Femara for another 2 weeks until I am 100% so I will know the true effects of Arimidex after I start it. I asked my Acupuncturist if she had a herb I could take if I cannot tolerate Arimidex or Aromasin; she said there is something, so I am hopeful there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Novartis indicated that side effects usually resolve after 30 days which is not the case for me.
Avatar f tn I tried first tamoxifen made me tired and nausous then I tried Femara, the pain was so great in my joints and muscle went off it I am now on Arimidex and 5 months into it it seems ok. I have gone off it once before one of my races because of pain. Arimidex is in the same family as femara only a little gentler..As my doctor said he doesn't know if it will help and it is not chemo but I am 16 months past chemo and have been on an estrogen blocker the whole time.
107366 tn?1305680375 I took Femara for a short time back last fall, and again this spring. Are any of you on Aromasin, Femara, Tamoxifen, or Arimidex experiencing joint/bone pain? If so, do you find it getting worse the longer you are on it? I finally got off IV chemo in favor of taking AI's because IV chemo was doing too much damage and I needed a break. My cancer is highly estrogen positive so AI's seem to be the choice for me at the moment (I actually have Ovarian cancer, not Breast Cancer.
Avatar n tn I couldn't take tamoxifen am know now am on arimidex. although at times i feel stiff it is better than tamoxifne and for get about femarar i felt 200 years old. i am estrogen positive which is why I am on arimidex It sometimes makes me achey and sometimes my stomach bothers me but i go off for a couble of days and then back on it.
Avatar n tn I am 42 and have been on Arimidex since Feb. 20, 2009. I have had a hysterectomy in May to remove my ovaries. I have gained 15 pounds. I am on a 1600 calorie/day diet and walk six miles a day, four days a week. I would like to know if there is any thing else I can do to battle this weight gain. I will be on Arimidex for another four years.
Avatar f tn I had an ooferectomy almost 2 weeks ago as a precaution, as my mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 59. I felt great until I started Arimidex on Tuesday, and now I feel horrible. I feel constantly tired and weak and my mind is not alert, I'm having trouble focusing on simple puzzles. I've also been emotionally fragile since Tuesday, crying or on the verge of crying. Will this pass?
Avatar n tn t used Femara yet. I started on Arimidex and after 6 months had to switch to Aromasin because with Arimidex moving my thumbs became extremely painful and it was moving into my elbow and then my hip. Things improved dramatically, then after a year on Aromasin my hips started aching and I dreaded getting out of bed and standing up. I am convinced it is due to the Aromasin. I'm just 53 so that seemed ridiculous.
Avatar n tn t be reached even for a biopsy to be taken the Arimidex cleared it by the next scan (6 months). I should point out that Arimidex was the only medication I was taking, no other treatment. The only reason my cancer has now returned is because a relief GP gave me the results of a bone scan and found that I had osteoporosis so she took me off it and by the time I saw my oncologist (another 6 months) the cancer had returned and metasized in my intestines and spine and ribs. Great fun!
Avatar n tn I was dx in Feb 2002. I have previously been on different chemo.surgery, hormonal.. arimidex, aromosin, fasoldex . and several radiation treatments. I am undecided on doing any more chemo. My cancer , of course , is er/pr positive. Is there any advice on this chemo. or is there another hormonal I could try.
Avatar f tn I do not want to do chemo and radiation but am very willing to do arimidex i am post menopausal 53 yrs old. If arimidex does the job it says why do chemo? Radiation? I have been out of work and my life disrupted for a month and am already loosing everything due to financial stress 6 more months of treatment with chemo and work disruption i fear will ruin me. What are my chances with just arimidex treatment? PET scan shows negative to any cancer anywhere else.
Avatar n tn However, sometimes the headaches are really bad, and now my doctor is suggesting I have my Ovaries removed (OBGYN says take it all if not planning on kids moving forward) - this will allow me to take Femara which I understand to be better than Taxomifen - is this true. I asked what the benefit would be and I guess it would reduce my risk of reoccurence by approximately 3-4 percent. Although, those seem like low percentages - they are huge when it comes to cancer.
Avatar n tn Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years! Avatar f tn 5 months later counts rising again and tumors on CT scan -- Started Doxil Feb 3 of 2008 and just finished 6 cycles -- tumors have shrunk significantly by CA125 up to 256 which is where I started in Feb (had gone down to 161 and then started climbing again) -- docs say I need a break and have started me on Arimidex two days ago to control the CA125 -- should i be continuing the Doxil to make the tumors continue to shrink, or stay on Arimidex until the tumors are growing again?

Avatar n tn Just finished 5 years of Tamoxifen and 5 years of Femara. Now Im wondering what can be expected? Do side effects go away immediately? Is there such thing as withdrawal where side effects get worse before better? Who has been through it and how are you doing? Thanks.
