Femara therapy

Common Questions and Answers about Femara therapy

femara

Avatar n tn In the meantime, I had Taxotere and Doxil, which did not work, so I went on Femara (I am low grade, too). Tamoxifen was not even considered for me because there is an indication for blood clots while on it. Femara does not have that indication, however, the clots kept coming while I was on it. It also caused severe bone pain. A little more than a year ago, I switched to Aromasin, and things have dramatically improved.
Avatar n tn I didnt get any response from any healthcare providers on my Tamoxifen/Femara question regarding weight gain and loss. Can anyone answer that question for me.
Avatar n tn I was on tamoxifen for 5 years and have been on femara for 3. The back pain and joint pain has gotten horrible. I can no longer stand up straight or walk very far. I am 64 and afraid I will no longer be able to walk soon. I stopped femara 4 days ago. I wonder if any else has had this problem with the very severe joint pain, and if it will go away any time soon. The pain and quality of my life is so bad that I am taking the chance.
Avatar n tn It is also approved for the extended adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are within three months of completion of five years of tamoxifen therapy. Side effects that are comparable between Femara and tamoxifen include night sweats, weight gain, nausea and tiredness. Side effects seen more often with tamoxifen versus Femara were hot flashes and vaginal bleeding. The benefits of FEMARA in clinical trials are based on 24 months of treatment.
Avatar n tn I was on Femara and the bone pain was horrible. they wasn't any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..
Avatar n tn I had breast cancer in my right breast 7 yrs. ago, had a lumpectomy, & had chemo. & radiation therapy for that. I couldn't follow up with Temoxaphen because of negative receptors. Cancer was found in my left breast now, so I had a bilateral mastectomy and no cancer cells were found other than in the new cancer site when pathology was done on the removed tissue and nodes. this cancer had positive estrogen receptors. The diagnosis is good and was rated as a "0".
Avatar f tn That could very likely be the reason ... if I were you I would certainly bring it up when you go for your ck. up. If that was his recommendation and you were OK with it initially I can't see any reason to have ask before. Personally I would like to know the reasoning though .... as no doubt you would too, so ask away. Best Wishes for your ck. up.
Avatar f tn I have not been ovulating for two months before. I have an appointment with OBGYN next month. I am considering hormore therapy. It will be great to hear from any of you who have been through such similar situation and have been able to conceive. Please advice.. Thanks, D.
Avatar f tn Before treatment I was super women and after i began treatment i could barely function. I was suppose to be on treatment for 6 months but 3 months into therapy I was told to stop therapy because I was having alot of chest and leg pain that the dr. thought it could be a blood clot brought on from the treatment. I did not have a blood clot and never went back on treatment. I've been off of treatment for about 14 months and I'm still experiencing alot of the same side effects.
1697057 tn?1351540435 m 38) and nothing-why do I not get pregnant and why is he putting me on Femara? Are there contraindications using Femara even if you do regularly ovulate? How useful is it?Thank you so much....
1204794 tn?1300704113 I went to my ob/gyn yesterday and she consulted with my ER doctor, and they determined that the BTB can occur when undergoing hormone therapy such as Femara, and that it should be considered more a inconvenience rather than a cause for concern. She said that it does not mean that it will decrease my chances of conception. So to all you Femara and Clomid users no need to worry about it. Easier said than done I understand.
Avatar f tn Had my liver, pancreas, lower, upper bowels resectioned and my spleen removed. Second surgery was 9/07. I responded very well to chemo. Is femara used in cases like mine with NED after recurrence? I'm so worried that it will come back with a vengence like it did last August. It almost took my life in less than two years. Thank you for your help ...
Avatar f tn Hi! I had lumpectomy 5 yrs. ago followed by radiation therapy. After 5 yrs of Tamoxifen my Onc. prescribed me Femara and now she stopped me from taking that medication without checking if I am still ER positive or not. Is it advisable for me to ask her to check if I am still ER positive? This discussion is related to Best chemo treatment given I am ER -.
199922 tn?1224786706 ve read some good things about the femara therapy...and would be happy to share my experiences/ etc with anyone if you are interested in it as well. I don't know whether or not it will be successful, but we all know...us ladies are willing to do most anything to get our BFP!
Avatar f tn You can ask your doctor about Femara, which works similarly. Some women respond better to Femara than Clomid. You doctor should do a 21 day progesterone to indicate that you are ovulating and the progesterone levels are in the expected ranges. If your progesterone levels are low, it can lower your chances of conceiving, but it can be treated with progesterone supplements to improve your chances.
1030058 tn?1252253572 Dear nannyct, The current data with "extended adjuvant therapy" (beyond the initial 5 years) is with letrozole (Femara) after 5 years of tamoxifen. Letrozole and anastrozole (Arimidex) are both aromatase inhibitors and are very similar to one another. In most of the adjuvant studies using these drugs, 5 years of treatment has been given. An ongoing study will compare 5 to 10 years of aromatase inhibitors but there are no results available yet on that study.
Avatar f tn A question for you Femara ladies - did you notice any changes in when you ovulated while on Femara? I am starting my first Femara cycle in two days (I am CD1 today, doing Femara CD3-7) and just wondering what to expect. I usually ovulate CD17-19. Does Femara make you O earlier, later, about the same? Thanks for any insight!
Avatar f tn On femara, so does this mean femara is only helping the 80% and the 20% is not being addressed. Only was addressed through ACT .
144100 tn?1283522567 First, there are case reports of endometriosis being treated successfully by aromatase inhibitors, which is the class of drug femara is from. Second, femara results in a thicker, better looking endometrium, than clomid. On the other hand, femara is more likely to result in one egg being released, rather than multiple. I don't know of any info regarding clomid making endometriosis coming back more quickly. Why have you been prescribed femara?
Avatar n tn Hi there, I was diagnosed with endometriosis at age 24 via laproscopy. I had another lapro three years later at 27. I started trying to conceive at age 32 1/2 and have been trying to concieve for 3 years. (now I'm 35) I did four IUI and four ivf. I got pregnant once with ivf, but miscarried after 8 weeks when the baby stopped growing. We are thinking of trying one last ivf, but this time plan to use lupron for three months prior.
Avatar n tn I am sure if your wife discusses her problem with her Oncologist something could be done to alleviate her discomfort without stopping the medication. Also a different drug, such as Femara could be more tolerable?I really don't know, but in my case I found that Femara was less problematic. Many women suffer from hot flashes caused by these medications but can find some relief when they avoid hot and spicy foods, caffeinated drinks, alcohol and smoking and having lots of fans in the house...LOL.
135691 tn?1271097123 When I told her I wanted to stop chemo for awhile and try a hormonal therapy she suggested Femara as the first thing to try. I asked her why start with Femara and not Tamoxifen. She said it is a little safer.
1235159 tn?1323009319 I did find that the side effects of Femara were far less severe than the Clomid and, unlike Clomid, Femara does not affect your CM or thin out your uterine lining.
1160836 tn?1332330169 I have been taking Femara the last 3 month, I also take metformin and esterdiol since my lining does not get thick enough on it's own. I have not gotten pregnant yet, but femara has worked great for getting my follicels ready. I have 3-4 follicles each month. I have PCOS and DH's morphology is on the low side, so there could be many reasons why I'm not pregnant yet. Good luck!
Avatar f tn d like to discuss trying femara for this 6th cycle instead of clomid since it thinned my lining so much for this cycle. But..I want to know..can I expect the same type of results from femara as I have with clomid? On 100 mgs of clomid, I have had a mature follicle ready for trigger on Days 10 and 11. Thoughts? Thanks!
320424 tn?1205500555 and got pregnant on that (+ follistim) and IUI , it was our third round of femara.. like everyone said, the nice thing about femara is the side effects are few and tolerable, it doens't thin your lining (which actually makes miscarriage rates lower with femara) and it actually improved my CM! i have endo and pcos as well, and it can actually be used as an endo suppressive drug, so thats why we choose it initially! good luck!
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, After 3 months of Femara I suddenly developed carpel tunnel syndrome. My entire right arm became numb in the middle of the night; I thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. I called Novartis & they sent me the requested 9 pages of info about musculoskeletal side effects, the most common being carpel tunnel & trigger finger. I saw a hand specialist who provided hand braces and said I would eventually need the surgery.
Avatar f tn So I am getting ready to start Femara on my next cycle...Clomid not working. Anyway I was wondering who is on or has been on it and when and how much did you have to take? I have done alot of research on it but I am just wondering why women are on such different doses and cd to take them? Is it just up to the individual DR.? Has anyone had success with Femara?? I need a little light at the end of this long tunnel....
