Femara osteoporosis

Common Questions and Answers about Femara osteoporosis

femara

Avatar n tn They have done some blood tests which have come back normal, so they are sending her for a bone density scan as they think the Femara could be causing osteoporosis. My nan (mums mum) has had it for years so they think mum might have the genes for it which the Femara is just accelerating. But, she can't have a bone scan for several weeks as they have run out of radioactive material for it!!!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn I was on tamoxifen for 5 years and have been on femara for 3. The back pain and joint pain has gotten horrible. I can no longer stand up straight or walk very far. I am 64 and afraid I will no longer be able to walk soon. I stopped femara 4 days ago. I wonder if any else has had this problem with the very severe joint pain, and if it will go away any time soon. The pain and quality of my life is so bad that I am taking the chance.
Avatar n tn I am taking femara after surgery for early breast cancer. I am supposed to take calcium supplements but dont like them and now there is a suggestion of increased risk of heart attack. I have a good diet, take exercise and my bone density is normal. I am 74.
Avatar f tn Why is it so difficult to get permission to get the prolia shot approved through the health system? I have been denied permission to get the shot. What can I ask for as an alternative? I am already taking femara daily with many manifested side effects. I don't need to add anymore.
Avatar m tn //www.onclive.com/view/letrozole-maintenance-therapy-improves-rfs-in-ovarian-cancer- 2.5 mg is the typical dose used in studies. What side effects are you experiencing? And what does your prescribing physician/oncologist say?
Avatar f tn Besides big joints like shoulder, leg, the joints in every finger is in pain. So my oncologist put be back in tamoxifen. Femara also has risk of causing osteoporosis and I have done bone density test during that time. I am post menopausal. What is recommended duration taking letrozole after tamoxifen?
Avatar n tn Even young people can get DVTs. It happens, for example, on long airplane rides when people don't get up and move around to keep their circulation going. My father-in-law got a DVT when he reduced his exercise level. They put in a screen to prevent clots from reaching his lungs, and they put him on a blood thinner called Coumadin (which is the same or similar to warfarin, I believe). He will probably be on the Coumadin the rest of his life.
492898 tn?1222243598 I know everyone is different and all that but thought maybe someone can share their experiences or other knowledge about Aromasin? I was on Tamoxifen, then switched to Arimidex which was a nightmare. Then Femara which was a little less horrible but too horrible to continue. The I went back on tamoxifen and today I saw my oncologist and he wants me to try Aromasin. He says the reason is mostly because of my taking prozac, and the problems this can cause with Tamoxifen.
Avatar n tn s are doing for me. I have been placed on Femara 2.5 1x a day as well as Aygestin 1x a day. I am staying on this for 3 months. From what I understand there are alot of studies out there suggesting Femara reduces the swelling, etc. After the 3 months once I get my AF back, I will continue on Femara/iui for 3-4 months before moving on to IVF. The combination of drugs puts your body into a "menopausal" state.
Avatar f tn I am 48 yrs. old and was diagnosed with b/c in July of 2008. I have undergone a lumpectomy, chemotherepy -AC/T and radiation. I finished this course last spring. I was also on tamoxifen until about four weeks ago. I had an ooferectomy almost 2 weeks ago as a precaution, as my mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 59. I felt great until I started Arimidex on Tuesday, and now I feel horrible.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar n tn can anyone help me out with some information on what is going on here, her osteoporosis does not seam to be getting any worse, as she is on meds and really diets well to help herself, but the pain is what i am worried about, pain killers do not work at all, she can't have anti inflams for some reason, either heart or ulcer or something... what can she do for the pain??
Nicelady I just had my frist Bone scan and the office called me and said I had osteoporosis and that they called in RX for Atelvia.. I picked up the RX and was reading the information and I am concerned about the side effect of this medication. Is this the only way to help with osteoporosis? Is there anything elso another way?
Avatar n tn I am a 59 year old female. The reading on my bone density test is minus 4.1 for my spine and minus 2.6 for my legs and hip. However, my doctor isn't prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again.
Avatar f tn A question for you Femara ladies - did you notice any changes in when you ovulated while on Femara? I am starting my first Femara cycle in two days (I am CD1 today, doing Femara CD3-7) and just wondering what to expect. I usually ovulate CD17-19. Does Femara make you O earlier, later, about the same? Thanks for any insight!
144100 tn?1283522567 First, there are case reports of endometriosis being treated successfully by aromatase inhibitors, which is the class of drug femara is from. Second, femara results in a thicker, better looking endometrium, than clomid. On the other hand, femara is more likely to result in one egg being released, rather than multiple. I don't know of any info regarding clomid making endometriosis coming back more quickly. Why have you been prescribed femara?
1235159 tn?1323009319 I did find that the side effects of Femara were far less severe than the Clomid and, unlike Clomid, Femara does not affect your CM or thin out your uterine lining.
Avatar n tn I didnt get any response from any healthcare providers on my Tamoxifen/Femara question regarding weight gain and loss. Can anyone answer that question for me.
1160836 tn?1332330169 I have been taking Femara the last 3 month, I also take metformin and esterdiol since my lining does not get thick enough on it's own. I have not gotten pregnant yet, but femara has worked great for getting my follicels ready. I have 3-4 follicles each month. I have PCOS and DH's morphology is on the low side, so there could be many reasons why I'm not pregnant yet. Good luck!
Avatar f tn d like to discuss trying femara for this 6th cycle instead of clomid since it thinned my lining so much for this cycle. But..I want to know..can I expect the same type of results from femara as I have with clomid? On 100 mgs of clomid, I have had a mature follicle ready for trigger on Days 10 and 11. Thoughts? Thanks!
320424 tn?1205500555 and got pregnant on that (+ follistim) and IUI , it was our third round of femara.. like everyone said, the nice thing about femara is the side effects are few and tolerable, it doens't thin your lining (which actually makes miscarriage rates lower with femara) and it actually improved my CM! i have endo and pcos as well, and it can actually be used as an endo suppressive drug, so thats why we choose it initially! good luck!
