Femara for endometriosis

Common Questions and Answers about Femara for endometriosis

femara

374593 tn?1257879950 If you are not planning to do IVF, then immediate ovulation induction/IUI after surgery is probably better before the endometriosis returns. I think Femara is a great choice for ovulation induction for women with endometriosis. Of course, you should discuss this with your own infertility doctor.
144100 tn?1283522567 I am not sure femara is better than clomid, but in theory there are a couple of good reasons for femara in your case. First, there are case reports of endometriosis being treated successfully by aromatase inhibitors, which is the class of drug femara is from. Second, femara results in a thicker, better looking endometrium, than clomid. On the other hand, femara is more likely to result in one egg being released, rather than multiple.
1626928 tn?1378850167 Thank you so much for the response. At this time my endometriosis is confined to my right ovary only with no growth in over a year. I have been seeing a fertility dr and just recently switched to a new one who will be monitoring me better. I had some crazy emotional side effects with clomid so I'm hoping I won't with femara. Also, I did not take metformin with clomid so I'm hoping that will help.
458314 tn?1206259703 Laproscopy can treat endometriosis temporarily for a year or 2, helping you to conceive. Femara also lately is being used to cure endometriosis. And yes, endometriosis is a cause of infertility, however it is not that bad...atleast it is cureable and not unexplained.
652899 tn?1284047173 I am due for my first iui in sep ..am on letrozole ( femara) days 5-9..
795248 tn?1250686616 This will be my 2nd iui and this will be my third cycle on femara. I cycle on femara with iui, one cycle just femara and this cycle on femara with hopefully iui around the 30th, 1st or 2nd(weekend). We have been ttc for over 2yrs and have unexplained infertility. All of our blood work and tests and u/s are perfect. Our sperm is perfect and eggs and uterus look great. I was just looking for others that are going thru the same thing so we could support each other!!
Avatar n tn bny807 - really?! i pray to God that it helps me. I cried for hours leaving the RE office friday when he started me on this. I am trusting my RE. He is REALLY well known in the area...even studied at strong memorial and has been around for years (my aunt used him almost 20 yrs ago). He's also working with a well known surgeon who works with endo removal. I asked the RE what my chances were if i did IVF and he said that my endo wasn't really in my uterus but behind and at the top...
788859 tn?1236734548 yes femara has a short half life, so its out of your system way before conception starts! a lot of people on here have used it to get pregnant.. i used it on many cycles combined with injectables.. it helps with ovulation and endometriosis suppression as well, and has less side effects for most people than clomid! GOOD LUCK!
Avatar f tn Then sept i go in another lap surgery because i had to remove my appendix. This mth trying again. This time with femara, menopur and going for HCG tomorrow.
Avatar n tn Hi! If you were my patient, I would consider ovulation induction once we knew whether or not you have endometriosis. Endometriosis can be worsened(or improved) by hormonal manipulation. I would start with a medication such as Clomid or Femara. Good luck!
725941 tn?1297882209 Hello! i think there are several of us on here that have gotten preg with femara.. i took two cycles of femara without any luck (but we were told due to our issues including male factor we would need IVF.. so this wasn't a shock) but then the 3rd IUI did femara + injectables and it did work.. i have endometriosis and they really like femara for endo patients as well.. it doesn't thin the lining like clomid.. did your doctor do an ultrasound to check how many follies you had?
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would prescribe 14 days of progesterone for you to clean out the uterus. Then, I would see whether you started regular cycles after that. If not, I would suggest something like Clomid or Femara to help you ovulate. By the way, after that much bleeding, you should probably be on some vitamins and iron. A good woman's multivitamin is a great idea--generics are fine. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I recentloy found a wonderful endocronilogist I had very severe endometriosis which he took care of this month I am starting on Femara I am so excited that the first day I started my cycle I took 2 pills afterwards I read I am suppose to start taking the meds on day 3 just my luck he (my wonderful dr.) is on vacation out of town until Weds.
199922 tn?1224786706 My doctor thought the best thing was the femara treatment. Right now I am on Femara/Aygestin treatment for 3 months. After that he feels either I can opt for surgery (bowel reconstruction, etc) OR TTC again using IUI/femara/injections. He states we can try that for 3 months, after that he'd move on to IVF. I've read some good things about the femara therapy...and would be happy to share my experiences/ etc with anyone if you are interested in it as well.
374593 tn?1257879950 ) and that she is recommending me do lupron or femara for supression for 3-6 months.. we have been ttc for a year so before surg we thought we wouldn't do any of those meds since it woudl simply delay concieving longer.. I have pretty much decided against lupron, but may be open to doing femara for three months constantly.. anyone done this? i know it can be used for ovulation - like clomid.. but looks like new studies are showing if you use it consistently it is helping...
Avatar n tn Last week, I had Laparoscopy surgery for my endometriosis (which resulted in stage 1). My doctor is prescribing Letrozole, everyday for 2 months, to clean up any endometriosis that may have been missed during surgery. After the 2 months, I would take 1 Letrozole for 5 days to promote ovulation. Any suggestions? Right path? Or is the only option I have is another IVF? Thank you...
Avatar f tn I was on Femara for 3 months for endometriosis. 2 weeks into treatment I also started having intense constant chest pains amongst other terrible side effects. I've been off the Femara for about 1 1/2 years and still have chest pains and other lingering side effects that my doctors can't explain.
349135 tn?1267105573 m not sure what would be appropriate in your situation, but there are a few drugs out there that are not very invasive and fairly inexpensive. Like Clomid or Femara...both pills taken for five days in the beginning of your cycle. I hope you find a new RE soon! Best of luck to you!
374593 tn?1257879950 ve since done two cycles of femara, and then this one femara + injectables... before IVF should we do lupron for 3 months for endo suppression? ( i hear its ify if it helps the chances with iVF or not.. my RE doesn't feel strongly that it helps) or should I go to an endo specialist and have exicion surgery before trying IVF.... or should we just do the regular IVF - 2 weeks of lupron before?
368461 tn?1291515587 My RE said clomid thins your lining too much so she only uses femara. We went the femara route and it worked first try.I am now 10w2d. I am 36. I also dont think higher than normal fsh alone is a good indicator of egg quality. You need an fsh test along with AMH, estrogen, progesterone, to get a true picture of that. (Mine was 11.4 when we first started TTC and I had endometriosis surgery and it went down to 5.5.
Avatar f tn I was on Femara and Necon for 3 months to treat endometriosis. 2 weeks into treatment I started getting side effects like scary muscle pains throughout my body especially in my chest and legs, unable to concentrate and focus, memory loss, joint pain ,anxiety, rage, depression... the list goes on and on. Every time I would call the prescribing dr with a side effect he would tell me it is not from the medication.
413852 tn?1317308712 Your OBGYN is right. Mine also had me use Femara for 4 cycles to try to increase our chances since I am in the dreaded "unexplained" category. It worked great for me, I O'd consistently, and had minimal side effects (just headaches and hot flashes here and there). We didn't end up with our BFP, but I have seen a lot of women who have with the Femara. Here are two information packets on it.
553399 tn?1290832126 Hi there, thank you for your exciting reply - thats the positive energy I am looking for. I know you had your IUI today - I was thinking of you. I am still taking the injectables and IUI, but am sure that I will have questions soon. I have my fingers crossed and will be looking out for you posts.
1351105 tn?1277142905 Well went to the apptmt. Gyno went through my list of symptoms. He doesn't think that it's PCOS. He just thinks that the reason why I'm having so many of those symptoms is from lack of ovulation since the last time I ovulated was last year in March. He also thinks that I'm in perimenopause since I can't have my AF but once a year with the help of provera. It's too late for me to be able to have one on my own. He prescribed me another ovulation stimulator Femara.
Avatar f tn DH and I are doing IVF with ICSI next month- mainly bc of severe mf factor. However- i have stage 2/3 endometriosis. I have been reading that it is less likely an embryo will implant in a uterus of a woman with endo- is this true? I am worried- I could use some positive endo ivf stories!!!
374593 tn?1257879950 Would vitamin C (1000mg or more) help with fertility and endometriosis while undergoing fertility treatments? (IUI's with femara, and progesterone supplements) Since they say that endometriosis has an immune component, I was curious if adding more vitamin C supplements would be useful in combating that? Thanks so much!
99627 tn?1301270952 My RE is puting me on injectables this cycle to do IUI. I will try it for maybe 2 cycles and will go for IVF. Thank you again.
Avatar m tn We are now on Femara again (doing 10 days this time instead of 5) and will probably do that for awhile as we ponder donor eggs in our quest to become parents. I feel lucky to have a wonderful husband...just wish I knew more abour donor eggs and whether or not I should keep trying to get pregnant. It's a confusing time...some days I feel like we can do it then some days I feel like being hopeful is unrealistic. Any advice/encouragement is welcome!!! Thank you very much!
