Femara dosage for breast cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Femara dosage for breast cancer

femara

Avatar f tn I was on Femara before my first pregnancy. I took one pill each day for 10 days, just like clomid dosing. Femara is a breast cancer drug and not sure how the side effects would turn out when taking 10 pills in one day. Sounds very unusual.
Avatar n tn I had a double masectomy 1-1/2 years ago and have finished chemo treatments in April of 08 and now I am on Femara for about a year. My question is can I get a recurrence of cancer of some sort (i know it won't be breast) while I'm actually still using Femara?
Avatar f tn So then they prescribed four days worth of some other type of drug which is also primarily used for breast cancer treatment and pretty much works the same way as the femara called tamoxifcan or something similar. I can't remember I don't have the bottle in front of me. It's similar anyway. I just finished taking my second dose of it so I have Friday night and Saturday night to go.
Avatar f tn I am on femara 5 days a month, but been warned that since it actually made for breast cancer patiences one should never take them unwatched. My sister has breast cancer and it stems from hormons. Don't risk it been my suggestion but you must decided. Its just not something worth messing around to possibly mess your whole system over. Rather go and see a gyni and save yourself from complications.
384150 tn?1399904816 m very surprised to hear that Femara has been used; as Alikat mentioned, it is prescribed for breast cancer. My mother took it a few years ago for her treatment. (Yet another reason for my hesitation over taking drugs that may affect my hormones:( Have you heard of taking Vitamin C? It's supposed to improve fertility in women with a shortened luteal phase. LOL I've always hated the length of my periods - 5 to 7 days - so does this mean it's a good thing?!
1030058 tn?1252253572 I am approaching 5 years clear of Breast cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 1 ER+ right breast cancer in 2004. No node involvement at all. However it was also Her2neu positive. I had a trt mastectomy w/ 16 lymph nodes excised, all negative. I then had 4 cycles of Adriamycin and Cytoxin.
Avatar n tn t want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar n tn t until July, he has recommended we try Femara (2.5mg 2x/day). After researching online, Femara is typically used to treat breast cancer. However, research has suggested there is a higher success rate with Femara vs. Clomid. Along with Femara, we are going to continue the Ovidrel shot. Ask you doctor about this. Maybe this could be an option for you and your husband. Good luck!!
Avatar n tn Hi I am a breast cancer 7 year survivor. I previously took tamoxifen for 5 years. During that time, I had yearly pelvic utrasound exams as I was told that the endometrial lining could thicken and had to be watched. I am now on Femara for the last year. I dont believe that Femara has that same effect on the endometrius. My gynocologist examined me this year (3 weeks ago) and said everything looked fine. My ovaries, etc. all were normal.
Avatar n tn HER2-positive breast cancer is a distinct form of breast cancer that demands attention because HER2-positive tumors are fast growing. The combination of trastuzumab (Trade name Herceptin)with chemotherapy is now standard for the first-line treatment of women with HER-2-positive.
Avatar n tn htm) FEMARA (letrozole tablets) is approved for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer. It is also approved for the extended adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are within three months of completion of five years of tamoxifen therapy. Side effects that are comparable between Femara and tamoxifen include night sweats, weight gain, nausea and tiredness.
Avatar f tn Hello, Letrozole i s used to treat certain types of breast cancer (such as hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer) in women after menopause. Letrozole is also used to help prevent the cancer from returning. It is not used for fertility treatment rountinely. Consult a gynecologist to discuss about the treatment options. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Hi, Studies with femara have shown that it causes about 27% reduction in risk of recurring breast cancer. Other studies have shown that the yearly risk of recurrent breast cancer is reduced by half with femara. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F00E6DE143FF933A25753C1A9659C8B63 I suggest you to please follow the advise of your treating doctor.
Avatar n tn Also, you may also discuss with your doctors regarding short term withdrawal of the drug (about 2-3 weeks) to check if the pain would go away (but this may be risky for your cancer). Make sure you receive adequate pain medications and I hope your future markers will be normal. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm on a drug similar to Femara. If the cancer is estrogen receptive, Femara either starves or kills the estrogen so that cancer cells can't grow. I will be on Aromasin, in the Femara family, for the rest of my life, unless they come up with something better! Check the internet for clinical trial updates; Aromasin is currently in clinical trials for ovarian cancer. Previously it was only used for breast cancer. It's known to cut estrogen production by up to 95%.
Avatar f tn Femara is a prescription medication that is originally used in women with breast cancer, but helps women ovulate if they don't on their own.
Avatar n tn The correlation between breast cancer and estrogen related ovarian cancer is being studied, and the theory is if they work for breast cancer patients, they may work for estrogen related ovarian cancer, as well. For me, Aromasin has kept my cancer stable for the last 9 months. I encourage you and your mom to speak to her doctor regarding trying a different Aromatase Inhibiter IF Femara doesn't seem to work for her, or causes side effects.
Avatar n tn I tried clomid as well a couple of years ago, with very similar side effects as you describe. The fertility specialist I am seeing now put me on Letrozole. Letrozole is actually a drug used for women with breast cancer. One of the 'side effects' is that it stimulates ovulation. Of course the dose you take for fertility purposes is much lower compared to taking it for breast cancer. I did a little research on my own and found that Letrozole is actually much safer than clomid.
Avatar f tn I had stage 3+ breast cancer 6 years ago and had a lumpectomy (twice) and after chemo and radiation was put on Femara since my cancer was hormone sensitive. I've been on it the required 5 years and now the pharmaceutical company says another 5 years. My insurance won't pay for it after January, so does anyone have any ideas or experienced something similar? Femara is many hundreds of $ a month, so paying for it without help is not an option. Anyone had a similar experience?
257175 tn?1204161973 I tried to ask for Femara, but my RE wouldn't give it to me since it is not FDA approved for fertility and is sanctioned as a breast cancer drug. I wish they would've though!
Avatar n tn The amplification of the cERBB2 gene in breast cancer cells is associated with a more aggressive cancer phenotype. This gene is amplified in about 20 - 30% of cases. At the present though, two drugs already target the overexpressed protein. These drugs are Herceptin and Lapatinib and has been shown to improve outcomes in breast cancer patients.
