I am 63 and just diagnosed with Stage 1, ER/PR Positive, node negative invasive ductal carcinoma. My oncologist is in the process of deciding whether to prescribe Letrozole/Femara or Anastrozole/Arimidex. What considerations factor into which of these two drugs to use? Has anyone had experience with either of them? How serious are the side effects?

I was on Femara and Necon for 3 months to treat endometriosis. 2 weeks into treatment I started getting side effects like scary muscle pains throughout my body especially in my chest and legs, unable to concentrate and focus, memory loss, joint pain ,anxiety, rage, depression... the list goes on and on. Every time I would call the prescribing dr with a side effect he would tell me it is not from the medication.

I have been on tamoxifen and currently on femara. I was having major depression and weight gain with the femara so I took a one month break from the meds (with dr approval). Within a few days, I felt mentally and physically more like my old self (pre-cancer). Unfortunately, I cannot stay off the medicine due to having lymph node involvement. However, during week 3 of no meds, I noticed a bloody discharge one night and then had a light period for the next several days.

I was fine on 50mg but when they increased my dose to 100mg I got vision problems, so they switched me to Femara, which doesn't give me any side effects except sometimes tender breasts.

I lost my hair and was nauseated but 2 treatments in they discovered the port they implanted in me caused an infection that traveled to my heart and resulted in open heart surgery and 6 months later my cancer came back. At this point my wonderful doctor suggested femara or letrozole that shrunk my tumors in half and I was able to have another surgery. The last surgery seemed to get all of the cancer and I continue to this day to take femara and I'm currently 4 years in remission.

I have Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma was treated with cvs chemo for two years, also have Invasive Lobular Carcinoma resulting in a masectomy, tried femara, faslodex,arimedex,and tamoxifin for 4 years. Had two hip replacements in the last 2 years, suffer from a cognitive disorder from all the chemo, and have sever depression. I cannot take any anti depressants due to suicidal tendicies. I take endocet for my pain . I cannot exercise as I used to due to the surgeries.

I'm wondering if there is anything new regarding the relationship between Femara and trigger fingers and arthritis of the hands? I've read some older posts but don't see anything current. I have been taking Femara since Dec 2009 and started having pain in my hands and trigger fingers two months ago (Feb, 2011) I had injections for the trigger fingers which seem to help and then not. The changes are making me crazy.

A question for you Femara ladies - did you notice any changes in when you ovulated while on Femara? I am starting my first Femara cycle in two days (I am CD1 today, doing Femara CD3-7) and just wondering what to expect. I usually ovulate CD17-19. Does Femara make you O earlier, later, about the same? Thanks for any insight!

First, there are case reports of endometriosis being treated successfully by aromatase inhibitors, which is the class of drug femara is from. Second, femara results in a thicker, better looking endometrium, than clomid. On the other hand, femara is more likely to result in one egg being released, rather than multiple. I don't know of any info regarding clomid making endometriosis coming back more quickly. Why have you been prescribed femara?

I did find that the side effects of Femara were far less severe than the Clomid and, unlike Clomid, Femara does not affect your CM or thin out your uterine lining.

I didnt get any response from any healthcare providers on my Tamoxifen/Femara question regarding weight gain and loss. Can anyone answer that question for me.

I have been taking Femara the last 3 month, I also take metformin and esterdiol since my lining does not get thick enough on it's own. I have not gotten pregnant yet, but femara has worked great for getting my follicels ready. I have 3-4 follicles each month. I have PCOS and DH's morphology is on the low side, so there could be many reasons why I'm not pregnant yet. Good luck!

d like to discuss trying femara for this 6th cycle instead of clomid since it thinned my lining so much for this cycle. But..I want to know..can I expect the same type of results from femara as I have with clomid? On 100 mgs of clomid, I have had a mature follicle ready for trigger on Days 10 and 11. Thoughts? ve since done two cycles of femara, and then this one femara + injectables... before IVF should we do lupron for 3 months for endo suppression? ( i hear its ify if it helps the chances with iVF or not.. my RE doesn't feel strongly that it helps) or should I go to an endo specialist and have exicion surgery before trying IVF.... or should we just do the regular IVF - 2 weeks of lupron before?

and got pregnant on that (+ follistim) and IUI , it was our third round of femara.. like everyone said, the nice thing about femara is the side effects are few and tolerable, it doens't thin your lining (which actually makes miscarriage rates lower with femara) and it actually improved my CM! i have endo and pcos as well, and it can actually be used as an endo suppressive drug, so thats why we choose it initially! good luck!

So I am getting ready to start Femara on my next cycle...Clomid not working. Anyway I was wondering who is on or has been on it and when and how much did you have to take? I have done alot of research on it but I am just wondering why women are on such different doses and cd to take them? Is it just up to the individual DR.? Has anyone had success with Femara?? Hi,thank you very much for your replies.Any way I got my period and purchased femara with doctor's prescription.Actually my periods are irregular.Doctor asked me to use femara after i got period.So before period I was normally searched online femara tablets and costs.Now I am using femara which were given by doctor's prescription.In the same hospital pharmacy only I took the femara tablets.Once again thank you.

So, I took Femara for the first time this cycle - 10 pills on CD7 (he'd rather do them on CD3, but since my cycles have been running long, he took a chance). Anyway, I've been waking up with rather severe tummyaches and intestinal cramps and also getting massive headaches (borderline migraines) in the afternoon.... Could this be due to the Femara?

I used Clomid for one cycle and it worked. Did you ovulate on Femara? Some women with PCOS have better luck with Femara than they had with Clomid.

We will be moving on to 5mg of Femara Cd 4 - 8 and then menopur CD 9 - 11. Then trigger and IUI. Has anyone had success with this? I usually take Femara on CD 3 - 7 so I don't know why she wants me to take them on CD 4 - 8 this month. I am wondering if I should switch back to Clomid for a month since I was on Femara last month.

Why do REs start with Clomid and not Femara? We all know that Clomid causes CM dryness and cysts.. then y do REs not start with Femara from the first time itself??? This Q has been bothering me since long.. Anyone knows???

I don't know about Femara but I have gained weight on Tamoxifen. I get to stop taking it next month and I can't wait to see if I lose some of this weight.
