Femara birth defects

Common Questions and Answers about Femara birth defects

femara

509981 tn?1210965313 Hi Ladies, I am starting on Femara tomorrow, and I'm worried about how my doc is handling this with me. I've read about the possible birth defects, and asked if my husband and I shouldn't have sex while I'm taking Femara- to which my doc said it doesn't matter. I also asked my doc if at the end of the months treatment on Femara if I should have an ultrasound before going back on the drug (if pregnancy is unsuccessful) and he said a home pregnancy test would be sufficient.
495138 tn?1221217880 If you search online about it, you will find a lot of scary info. on birth defects, but I have found that it leaves your system really quickly, so this is only a cause for concern if you take it while you are pregnant (Clomid has the same warning). I have seen a lot of women with success on Femara, so it could do the same for you! Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn hello! we just had success with femara (and injectables) and we have endo, pcos and male factor! we did do IUI... however we may be losing this pregnancy (in the waiting game right now) as far as side effects, i didn't have many at all, and it actually can increase cervical mucus unlike clomid. and it does have a short half life so birth defects shouldn't be a worry!. a lot of people have success stories on this! good luck!
384150 tn?1399904816 you take it the same cycle days as clomid, so no worry of birth defect. birth defects only occur if you take while pg (and it was originally a drug for breast cancer, and happened to get cancer patients pregnant, that's how it's use was discovered).
398038 tn?1247857003 Femara has a very short half life and therefore does not lead to a thin lining. Femara DOES cause birth defects if you take it when you are ALREADY pregnant. If you are NOT already pregnant when you take femara it does not cause any more birth defects than clomid or general infertility. So if you take it on days 3-7, it is gone by the time implantation occurs (due to it's very short half life) and theoretically it cannot cause birth defects because it is not even around anymore.
418703 tn?1308825220 I'm in the same boat as you. I just started the Clomid this month and took the last pill on Wednesday morning. So I am just waiting to ovulate. I was told to start doing OPK's on day 10 and just wait and see. I am currently on 500 mg metformin 3 times days and 50 mg Clomid. Hope it works right away!!!
Avatar m tn I don't really think just 3 days will have much of an effect. The problem is when people use it to treat breast cancer, so over a longer period of time, and then get pregnant. But I'm no doctor, so definitely bring it up next time you see your RE and see what he/she says. Congrats on your pregnancy!
788859 tn?1236734548 I would recommend this to anyone considering femara as it does cause birth defects if taken when pregnant. That being said, I took it and got prego on the first round and now have a 14 month old dd to show for it (and she is *perfect* of course!!
Avatar f tn Thank you Dr. Brown! So I guess that's kind of my question: since it's possible that it's NOT really the middle of my cycle right now, is it possible that the ultrasound is just too early? So let's say I am not going to ovulate until day 20, for example; would a day 12 ultrasound be too early to determine if I'll ovulate, or should a day 12 ultrasound still be able to determine if I'll ovulate, even if it's not for a another week or two?
Avatar m tn now my doc has put me on letrozole....as this is an anticancer drug it worries me and as side effects i has birth defects in babies.i dont know if i should take it or not???and wht if its does not work.
Avatar f tn Haven't tried injectibles yet, but your options are also mine at the moment (except I have a fourth option-natural cycle with IUI). I responded horribly to clomid. I started at 50, then they backed me down to 25 b/c I produced too many follicles (12) and my lining was too thin. The second month on 25 mg, I still had lining problem and I produced a cyst. I'm on my second month of waiting out the cyst (and also on birth control to help with that).
Avatar f tn I'm wondering what the reasons are for Fermara not being approved by FDA.....I've heard that Fermara does cause birth defects..any other reasons?
1821676 tn?1317251820 I'm a bit scares to start clomid, I've not heard. Lot of positive stories, why is if So bad??
Avatar f tn Teratogen exposure in the 1st trimester can be linked to congenital birth defects.
Avatar f tn How does birth defects happen is it in the family blood? Or what you eat or if you get hurt? I'm suppose to have my very first baby check up Aug 1 I'm 7weeks tomorrow and I just don't want nothing happening to my baby I'm scared to death I'm pretty sure it's to early to determine the baby has birth defects since I'm not to far along but I'll be 13 weeks when I see the doctor.
Avatar n tn Ladies im really concerned and cant get excited because im scared ive caused birth defects to my baby. Before I knew I was taking chinese herbs and also had a typhoid inj as I was goin to bali. I stopped the herbs at 4 weeks but wudda been after implantation. I had the vax the day before ovulation but heard the vax stays in ur system for 14 days. Anyone else worried about medications they been taking or have any advice? I just cry and cant b happy.
Avatar n tn Her surgerian told me whenever i was to get pregnant again i had to drink a higher dosis of folic acid to prevent birth defects, my ob prescribed me folic acid in pills which i have to take 4 of them every day im not taking no vitamins since he didnt prescribed none to me. I have to say im really concern about this pregnancy im so worried. Idk if any of you ladies had gone through something similar to this.
Avatar f tn Yeah, milk is definitely not necessary for anyone to drink. If you're worried about calcium Google "foods high in calcium" and you'll see many other options. As the ladies said above, soda isn't necessarily going to cause birth defects, but high sugar intake is not nourishing for mom or baby. I looked it up once and 4gms of sugar is about 1 tsp so one can of Mountain Dew, with 46gms of sug has ELEVEN teaspoons of sugar in it. One can! It's crazy!
415867 tn?1323365503 I am so sorry for what you are going through. I think having the dye test would definitely be a good thing if you've never had that, just to be sure. There's a little bit of cramping with it, but it's not too bad and sometimes they even say that helps remove any debris that might be in your tubes too and sort of "clean out the cobwebs" so to speak. It probably is a good idea to give your body a break to recover, although I can imagine how hard that is.
Avatar f tn My first cghild was born with a birth defects does that mean the one im carrying gone to come out with the same??
Avatar f tn I can see no connection between your taking Bendectin and your Daughter now having Breast Cancer since birth defects were at the time the main concern regarding the drug rather than far reaching complications. For your information in case you were not aware the drug has been approved by the FDA and is returning under a different name after being discontinued some 30 years ago.
Avatar f tn Have any of you ladies ate mcdonalds during your pregnancy and your baby came out fine? I'm hearing about mcdonalds having ingredients in their food that can give your baby birth defects /: and I loveee mcdonalds especially their Mcdoubles Fries & egg Mcmuffins. Is this truee?
Avatar n tn There is VERY little evidence that the hormones in the birth control pill will cause birth defects. The birth defect hype came from the drugs that were given to women who were ALREADY pregnant, to stop miscarriages. Don't stop taking the pill until a pregnancy is confirmed. It will not damage the zygote.
