Common Questions and Answers about Femara and uterine cancer

femara

384150 tn?1399904816 My RE told me clomid works very poorly on older women ( not sure who is talking about :) ), and can make the uterin lining very thin, he does not recomend it for me. Anyone hear anything different from their doctor? Also - I usually have a 2 day period with my LP at about 9-10 days. I have been taking VB6 100mg reguarly and my LP is now 11 days. Well my period ia now on day 3 this month so far. Do you think that means I had more lining to shed - that would be a good thing. Right?
Avatar f tn Hi there-I was on clomid 2 months with IUI and trigger-only had 2 follicles both times. I was on Femara this month, trigger and IUI and I had 6 follicles. I also took it on 4-8. So, for me, femara worked much better. I didn't do Menopur. I am in my 2ww and will find out on Tuesday. I wish you all the best!
374593 tn?1257879950 So i just started femara yesterday (cd3) and AF is now totally gone it seems! is that normal? sometimes i'll get a little break for night on day three, but it alllways returns the next morning and now its nowhere to be found! Not sure if this is more likely from my recent lap (3 weeks ago) or from the femara? anyone have any ideas? Do you think that it will affect my uterine lining this month if AF was only around for a mild 2.5 days? Thanks!
Avatar f tn t hurt to ask your doctor if he will prescribe you the femara if you are unsuccessful this cycle. From what I can remember femara is used in, I believe, cancer patients and they somehow found that it was helping with ovulation or something along those lines. One good thing about it not being listed as an infertility drug is your insurance might cover the cost.
495138 tn?1221217880 s supposed to be better for your lining and your CM. I would definitely talk to the doctor about it. Femara is really a breast cancer drug, but it's "off-label" use is for Fertility, so I think some doctors don't prescribe it. If you search online about it, you will find a lot of scary info. on birth defects, but I have found that it leaves your system really quickly, so this is only a cause for concern if you take it while you are pregnant (Clomid has the same warning).
Avatar f tn What is a good way to thicken the uterine lining. My lining my last two cycles have been 7mm then 5mm. I was on clomid both times, and my RE has switched me to Letrozole. I'm going on vacation this month so won't start a cycle till October. I heard baby aspirin will help, but not sure if this is safe.
Avatar n tn I was on femara and the pain was so bad. I thought my back and knees hurt from exercise the pain was from femara. all my bones hurt. when i went off it within 10 days the pain was gone. I am now on aromatex although not purfect the pain is minimal and if i swim alot it helps with the pain. there are other drugs that do the same.
Avatar n tn ve also read that it can build-up in the body so the impact on the lining and cm could theoretically get worse with each month. My RE put me on clomid last month and then switched to Femara this month. The Femara seems to have been more effective and my RE actually said my lining "plumped-up" between yesterday and today. You may want to see if your RE will let you try Femara next month-- but maybe you won't need it... maybe you'll be surprised with a BFP in 10 days!
Avatar f tn So then they prescribed four days worth of some other type of drug which is also primarily used for breast cancer treatment and pretty much works the same way as the femara called tamoxifcan or something similar. I can't remember I don't have the bottle in front of me. It's similar anyway. I just finished taking my second dose of it so I have Friday night and Saturday night to go.
Avatar f tn I actually was on Clomid for one cycle and it thinned my lining. They switched me to Femara and my lining thickened up. Last time, it measured 11mm.
Avatar f tn hmm today is cd11 and went in for us and bw to decide when to give trigger shot and do iui.. good news is my e2 was 632 bad news is my lining is only 3 (should be at least 8) i am scheduled for trigger shot on wed night cd 13 and iui on cd15 (usually we do trigger on cd11 and iui on cd13) hmm i'm afraid i will ovulate early or that my lining would not even support implantation. btw this is a side effect of clomid and it can affect ur lining 6 weeks after last pill grr...
503702 tn?1276176714 Im in recurrence of OVCA after 15thms. did chemo and avastin trial. Thank you.
Avatar n tn They have given mum a hormone tablet called femara to take for the rest of her life which they have said is an anti cancer drug and will kill any cancer cells. Has anyone had this? I am pleased that the chemo has worked.
1108951 tn?1258618690 Femara works mostly the same as clomid - however, femara doesn't thin your uterine lining like clomid does giving an embryo a good chance to be able to implant. Typically Femara has less side effects and is tolerated better. As far as dosage..you'll need to talk to your doc about that. Chances are they will start you on the lowest dose just like clomid and go from there. Most docs want you to take clomis CD 3 - 7, but some say 5 - 9.
Avatar f tn Why do REs start with Clomid and not Femara? We all know that Clomid causes CM dryness and cysts.. then y do REs not start with Femara from the first time itself??? This Q has been bothering me since long.. Anyone knows???
Avatar f tn m just finishing my period now and will start up with the Femara again next month. I had a few headaches but also got lots of EWCM. How long have you been on it?
Avatar f tn Some women respond better to clomid and others to Femara. You should talk to your doctor about checking your 21 day progesterone this cycle. Part of the importance of this is not only to ensure you are ovulating, but the progesterone will indicate if it was a strong ovulation. Higher levels of 21 progesterone can indicate a better chance of pregnancy success.
749784 tn?1233499310 t have chemo and just went on femara. She must have been very early stage and chemo was not recommended. I've heard of that before. I counted back to November and she would be finishing up her chemo in Feb. To answer your question, the surgery and the femara probably brought the number down. Since she's on several different natural remedies there is no way of knowing what is working and what is the safest way to treat her. I'd stay with the femara.
1235159 tn?1323009319 I did femara with injectibles, worked first shot and I just had my baby girl feb 21st. Good luck.
478429 tn?1265244387 Hey all, I had my u/s this a.m to check on the follie... I have one follie this month on 2.5mg of Femara. It's on the left measuring 20 by 14 I believe and my lining is good at 9.4.... Well, I also have an unexpected visitor this time around in there. Apparently there is water in my uterus... I asked my RE why that would be and he said he wasn't sure since it's never happened to me before.... Anyone else have this and what were the outcomes and what caused it?
Avatar f tn Greetings: I have hepatitis C and am taking 2.5 Femara. My oncologist and my Hep C doc are at odds about the amount i should take. My Hep C doc thinks i should only be taking 1/2 that amount. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I recently had a liver biopsy which showed no scarring and have had Hep C for almost 30 years. I am worried that the Femara may be doing untold damage to my liver. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Yes I took it on cd3-7 and got prego the first cycle. (Also did follicle monitoring and hcg trigger that cycle) Femara is different than Clomid. Clomid binds to estrogen receptors and makes the body think estrogen is low. Femara actually blocks the synthesis of estrogen. Both have the same effect though - which leads to more FSH and LH which stimulates follicle growth in the ovary.
Avatar n tn I had a double masectomy 1-1/2 years ago and have finished chemo treatments in April of 08 and now I am on Femara for about a year. My question is can I get a recurrence of cancer of some sort (i know it won't be breast) while I'm actually still using Femara?
Avatar n tn Is femara really so much worse than clomid? I am doing my infertility work up now and will be going on clomid cycle after next and I have heard so many awful things about the fact that clomid gives you all of these side effects and does famara do the same thing without the side effects?
Avatar n tn Those are drugs that were primarily given to post chemo breast cancer patients since breast cancer is usually estrogen related. The correlation between breast cancer and estrogen related ovarian cancer is being studied, and the theory is if they work for breast cancer patients, they may work for estrogen related ovarian cancer, as well. For me, Aromasin has kept my cancer stable for the last 9 months.
Avatar n tn m=2 Additional side effects for both Femara and tamoxifen are heart attack, thromboembolic events, endometrial cancer and second malignancies. bOTH THE DRUGS CAN CAUSE GAIN IN WEIGHT.
Avatar f tn Hello! well i just took my first femara pill today (its my first medicated cycle- will be doing trigger, iui and progesterone this cycle) Its similar to clomid in the sense that it stimulates ovulation, and from what i hear also can help increase progesterone in the LP and lengthen it simliar to clomid...
Avatar f tn Hi Sue, I see your case is much more severe than mine. And another that had serious problems from taking tamoxifen and AI aromasin. My oncologist wanted me to take tamoxifen but with my history of blood clots he suggested Femara. ( it still has blood clot risk, Tam 2.8%, Fema 1.2% ) He also requested the oncotype DX test and my number came back a 11 which is low. I read in the oncotype DX information booklet that test is only done on invasive tumors?
