femara and injectables

Has anyone used Femara or Clomid and a "boost" of injectables and gotten a BFP? I will be doing 5mg of Femara CD 4 - 8 and then 150IU's of Menopur CD 9 - 11. We'll go in on CD 12 to check the follies and then hopefully proceed with IUI. I am hoping for more than 1 follicle. With Clomid and Femara I usually only have one follicle. It is usually nice and big though. Any thoughts would be helpful - any! Thanks..

Hi I did 5 rounds of clomid up to 150mg without any mature follicles and yes it gave me a thin lining too. I have had a much better response to injectables but you are having a response to clomid so I personally don't think injections would be a good idea either. However you should ask to be switched to femara it's a pill like clomid but does not thin your lining. Try taking some flaxseed oil also as it will help build your lining back up.

Okay guys I'm back after about 5 months. I have done three rounds on clomid and three rounds on femara with no luck and were running out of options. I have endo, PCOS and i'm 22.! I'm tired of let downs so me, dh and RE decided to try injectables. I have been on BCP for over a month, day 5 on lupron and I start 35u Follistim on Sept. 2nd. Can anyone tell me what to expect, or if they have or are going thru the same thing.

Yes, and I was told by my RE the same thing-the injectables give you a high risk of multiples and REs usually start with weaker things. Did your RE tell you that your age is a high risk for multiples? Im 24 and my RE just said that injectables produce more then 1 egg many times..

I'll be taking my second set of injectibles with IVF. My first IVF failed..just found out last week. I'm trying to find the postive path, and stay determined, it's really hard some days.

Why do REs start with Clomid and not Femara? We all know that Clomid causes CM dryness and cysts.. then y do REs not start with Femara from the first time itself??? This Q has been bothering me since long.. Anyone knows???

I did find that the side effects of Femara were far less severe than the Clomid and, unlike Clomid, Femara does not affect your CM or thin out your uterine lining.

Sorry to hear about your struggles! this all can be so frustrating! but its worth it in the end! As angie said many dr's move onto injectables after clomid.. have you tried IUI's is your dh's SA ok? sometimes people switch to a different oral medication, like femara, just because peoples bodies react difffrently to everything, it doesnt' thin the lining like clomid nor does it strip the cervical mucus like clomid.. so thats an option.. adding IUI's is an option.

and i always get the pain around O time with femara and especially with femara +injectables.. not sure if its just ovulation itself or the growing ovaries or a direct result of the endo getting inflammed.. but the cycles that i have gotten pregnant i have the worst pains it seems! where i could barely walk.. and urinating etc were really painful..I can usually feel my ovary (have one left) getting bigger and twinging before O time and then all over pelvic pains after O... GOOD LUCK!

t know anyone else who has gone through infertility treatments and am feeling pretty alone....if you have taken clomid unsuccessfully and found the injectables to be more effective, I'd love your feedback. Also, if you took injectables/ superovulation---what were your side effects versus clomid?

we got preg twice - using femara + injectables... 5mg of femara.. its shows better success rate and lower mc rate than clomid according to most studies! : ) GOOD LUCK!!!!

some people switch from clomid to another oral med - femara and have good luck,, it tends not to thin the lining and not to strip away cervical mucus like clomid.. some peoples bodies like one more than the other! as far as injectables.. we did follistim (low dose due to my age and pcos) and got preg with IUI.. we did combine it with femara as well.. did the injections every other day... and femara daily for 5 days.. the shots are painless, and very easy to use!

what is injectables? i was talking to a nurse today (my dr was out of the office) and she didnt know what i was talking about..I was going to ask my dr. to swich my meds from clomid to femerra. Does anyone know the difference? Does it make you produce more follies? Im just at my wits end and dont know what else to do. Thanks for answering my questions.

Those all help the follicles grow, and that can often help with a short luteal phase, as well, because it usually leads to higher progesterone levels after O. However, you could also ask for a progesterone supplement to take after O has been confirmed to lengthen the luteal phase. Is there an RE in your area? If so, I would suggest seeing and RE instead of an ob/gyn.

So I'm on my second round of IUI. My Dr. said three rounds of IUI and then on to IVF. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what else we could try before going on to IVF? Three rounds of IUI doesn't seem like enough if they dont' work. (I'm only on the second one now and don't know if it worked yet.)Should we change to injectables with IUI? Right now i'm on Femara and Trigger shot with IUI. Any suggestions as to what might work? Thanks!

I'm on my 3rd round of Femara. The first month, I O'd on day 12, but during both last month and this month I O'd on day 14. What cycle days did you take Femara and waht dose? That also plays a role too. I took 5 mg on cd 3-7. I think your follies sound really promising! From other things I've read, they can grow by 2mm a day, so you should be getting close. Hi there.. Im 29 and on a failed cycle of femAra + injectables as started with some mid cycle spotting!! Cd18 today so just waiting for AF to arrive to start afresh..any buddies out there??

The only things that I have tried in the past are 4 cycles of clomid and 1 IUI. Why would he skip injectables??

Hello! i think there are several of us on here that have gotten preg with femara.. i took two cycles of femara without any luck (but we were told due to our issues including male factor we would need IVF.. so this wasn't a shock) but then the 3rd IUI did femara + injectables and it did work.. i have endometriosis and they really like femara for endo patients as well.. it doesn't thin the lining like clomid.. did your doctor do an ultrasound to check how many follies you had?

I just finished taking Clomid for three months and no pregancy. I had a lap and am going to start taking Femara to try and concieve. Hopefully this works. I am just wondering if anyone else has taken Femara and what it was like ie side effects/pregnancy?! Thanks.

hey i havent been on for a few months either, was also taking a break. I did 3 rounds of clomid and natural no luck. then we did 2 rounds of femara (letrezole) with and iui, unfortunately no luck....so we took 3 months off, now repeat semen analysis and if the counts are up, injectables to up the odds, if they havent changed we are thinking ivf....

If you don't respond to the clomid, I would ask to try the femara before injectables. I've know a few people who are now pregnant with femara when clomid didn't work. After injectables, they would likely move towards IUI. The 'try this and wait to see if it works' part is really hard...we've been there. Hang in there and hopefully your miracle will be here soon!

How are you doing on injectables now? Does it help, are you O?

oh wow - sorry you had to go through all of this. I'm hoping that this does the trick and you will have your BFP very soon! My RE has also suggested going to injectibles, and we can alternate between that and Femara. I'll probably go back to him in a few weeks since he wanted me to heal properly after my last D&C. I hope this works for both of us!

When my doctor found out about what happened when i took clomid he right away suggested injectables and IUI but since I did research and just started fertility treatments I was not ready for that just yet so I mentioned Femara and so he agree and I did 2.5mg this cycle and the side effects are so much less then Clomid. Did your husband have a semen analysis and did you get a HSG done to make sure your tubes arent blocked? If so then maybe Femara is the best next option for you. Good luck!
