Femara and bone density

Common Questions and Answers about Femara and bone density

femara

Avatar n tn I was on Femara and the bone pain was horrible. they wasn't any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..
Avatar n tn However, one side effect concerns the effect of femara on bone metabolism. There is significant risk of decreasing bone mineral density and therefore cause some bone brittleness when taking this drug. I suggest you have yourself worked up for bone mineral density or osteoporosis. The bone pains should also be evaluated for the possibility of bone metastasis, which can be initially misconstrued as drug side effect. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn I have a good diet, take exercise and my bone density is normal. I am 74.
Avatar f tn I have had increasing debilitating severe pain in left hip, left foot and both hands. DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's.
Avatar n tn Hi - after I finished chemo and starting rads in 2003 I was prescribed tamoxifen, took it for 2 months and my Oncologist changed me to Arimidex (one of the aromatose inhibitors) which I think has a 50% better prognosis for non recurrence than the old "gold standard" tamoxifen. I was thrilled, as it had just come on to the market here in England. However, 4 yrs down the line, I stopped it 4 weeks ago, due to severe bone pain (hips, hands and feet) and the pain has gone!
Avatar n tn I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density? Thank you very much. Susan. This discussion is related to arimedex.
Avatar n tn This drug can cause decrease in bone density and bone mass leading to osteoporosis and sometimes increased tendency to have fractures. If standard pain medications are not helping with these symptoms, I believe that you may discuss with your doctor regarding shifting to a different drug class such as tamoxifen (though tamoxifen has a different side effect profile, mainly from cardiac and vascular side effects).
Avatar f tn Lancet. 1992 Jul 4;340(8810):9-13. Long-term thyroxine treatment and bone mineral density. Franklyn JA1, Betteridge J, Daykin J, Holder R, Oates GD, Parle JV, Lilley J, Heath DA, Sheppard MC. Abstract Studies of the effect of thyroxine replacement therapy on bone mineral density have given conflicting results; the reductions in bone mass reported by some have prompted recommendations that prescribed doses of thyroxine should be reduced.
109530 tn?1279743796 One thing you need to keep in mind, now that you have both, is that steroids used to treat severe exacerbations are very hard on bone density. If you need steroid treatments, try to space them widely apart, and make them a last rather than first resort.
596605 tn?1369946627 Hi all- I am a pituitary patient. I've been taking Hydrocortisone now for about six years. Back when the journey all began I had a DEXA scan and it showed that I had osteopoeneia in several spots. As as 41 female I was quite concerned about this. I just got the results of my last DEXA scan and I am good. My bone has filled in and it is no longer an issue. So I follow the, "only take what you need philosophy" my max is 15 mgs a day. I Also, take a calcium supplement at night.
1485696 tn?1312405527 I should also mention that I have grade B spondilitis in my back at L5 and S1. After the sacrum fracture, my doctor did another bone density scan, and in the 2 year span, the bone density in my spine is twice as bad, upgraded to osteoperosis, but remained close to normal for my age at the hip and femur. My question is, is it possible for the bone density to only worsen in one area? My doctor is questioning the scan, and has me set up to see a rhuematologist.
135691 tn?1271097123 At The Mayo Clinic I asked about switching to another aromatase inhibitor should the Femara stop working and they said that Femara is one of the stronger aromatase inhibitors so if it stopped working they would try another theraputic approach because they didn't think switching to another aromatase inhibitor would help much.
Avatar n tn What Femara does, however, is that it can have a side effect in bone metabolism causing decreased bone mineralization that can cause bone pains and sometimes may lead to increased incidence of fractures. Hope this helps. Regards.
Avatar n tn Maybe we should see if any of the dots connect with the Growth Hormone deficiency studies on HCV, and the Osteoporosis study linked above. GH Deficiency seems to cause loss of bone density, and is highly correlated with HCV, and possibly could worsen with tx, if our post-tx symptoms are any clue. This Osteoporosis article also connects treatment to the problems with bone density, so it seems both HCV and tx are linked in different studies, to potential bone loss.
Avatar n tn I was on femara and the pain was so bad. I thought my back and knees hurt from exercise the pain was from femara. all my bones hurt. when i went off it within 10 days the pain was gone. I am now on aromatex although not purfect the pain is minimal and if i swim alot it helps with the pain. there are other drugs that do the same.
Avatar f tn Quantitative computed tomography (QCT) provides a three-dimensional bone density image and thus provides separate estimations of cortical and trabecular bone densities. Based on the three-dimensional bone density image, QCT method can provides a structural stability of a bone to some extent.
Avatar n tn My Bone Density was real low, I was Dx'd with Osteoperosis. Im only 21 and a male. The reason for this was malnutrition because of IBD. I am on a few suppliments now. Will increasing Bone Density increase my weight loss? I need to put on weight and curious if helping my none denisty will put back on weight.
Avatar f tn The total bone mineral concentration is calculated at 921 grams and the bone mineral concentration per bone area is calculated at the 45th percentile in this child based on a lunar pediatric reference population. Can you please tell me what this means? Thank you!!
Avatar f tn So, I have medical induced menopause. I just had a bone density scan test done but can someone help me make some sense of it? I had one done two years ago and a repeat one done last week. It states that it is a comparison to my scan two years ago. Findings: -0.9 lumbar spine (L1-L4): Density (g/cm2) of 1.084; T-score of -0.9; Z-score of -0.5; %change of -3.1 Femoral neck (mean):Density (g/cm2) of 0.783; T-score of -1.8; Z-score of -1.8; Z-score of -1.2; %change of -4.
Avatar f tn I had 3 Bone density scans done in last 6 years, and the last one which was on Friday came back showing: Left proximal femur, the lowest score is obtained in the femoral neck. The BMD of this region is 1.134 gm/cm2 with a T-score of 1.3.Between examiniations, there has been a significant increase in the total hip BMD (.0.019 gm/cm2) Then it says: Based on the lowest T-score, the diagnostic category if : Normal (T-score >-2.5).
691935 tn?1421027090 There were no significant differences between the groups in age or gender. Mean lumbar vertebral bone mineral density and mean z-scores in groups 1 and 2 before and after treatment were not significantly different. In both groups, serum and urinary biochemical values and bone markers were all normal and there were no differences between the pretreatment and post-treatment values.
Avatar f tn My last session of chemo was in july 2010. Radiation ended in sept 2010. I have been taking Tab Femara plus tab bone one and zomata (inj) from october-2010. Now i am going to undertake Bone Scan on advise of doctor. This Bone Scan was earlier done which was okeyed by doctor.. What do you suggest I do,. Your advise?
Avatar m tn ve been on TDF for around 4-5 years and have low bone density. but not sure if it is due to the drug. recently switched to TAF so hoping that will help. I've been taking rainbow light Men's One for a long time too but that didn't seem to help.
Avatar m tn got my bone scan and there is bone density loss, osteopenia around -1.5.this worries me a lot because i take vit d3 and vit k2 mk4/mk7, i also make antiaging protocols and my latest dna methylation clock is 40yo while being 49yo chronologically (my cells were 40yo 2 years ago and hope they re even younger now).so any guy with zero prevention and older might get much more damage from tdf.i called hospital but they say TAF is not available.....
Avatar f tn Hi yesterday i got my bone density test results back from a scan i had and although the nurse was unable to tell me much she said i have low bone density showing in hips and spine... I actually do not have pain in those areas but do have pain in my forearms, wrists, lower legs and ankles so would this all be related? In the morning i wake feeling extremely hung over, unrefreshed and my body feels stiff and on negotiating the stairs my ankles feel like they will snap!
