Avatar n tn I have a very serious fear of dentist from an early age. I just had an abscess that developed in my jaw. I went to the ER and was told it was dental. However the Dr did lance it with a size 9 needle with out numbing me. That has sent me really over the edge with fear. What type of dental reference should I look for in the future? Is there any help for me with the fear? Pls help I'm am so scared.
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar f tn I kept waking up because of the extreme amount of pain I could feel. The dentist was very rude and as I kept trying to tell them the numbing meds weren't working they just gave me more meds to put me back out. I can remember feeling lots and lots of pain but I was so drugged up that I couldn't wake myself up to tell them. That experience was very traumatic for me and I have not been back since and I was in 4th grade at the time and I am now 33 yrs old.
Avatar n tn I just wanted to say that you are not alone regarding your fear of the dentist!!! I have have so much work done in the past that had to be redone and redone that I just stopped going. I didn't want to face the expense, embarrasement and the fear anymore. It got to the point that I had to go and am now looking at complete restoration of my mouth beacause of the delay. PLEASE do not wait.

Avatar m tn ve been handling much better in the past few months thanks to medication and exercises, but I went to the dentist yesterday and my fears have been exacerbated to the maximum. I had profilaxis done and the dentist asked me to close my mouth around the tube that absorbs all the fluids. Then this morning I read that it's a bad practica and can cause cross contamination.
Avatar m tn There is only one known case of HIV transmission in a dental office, back in the early days of AIDS (before 1990, as I recall). The dentist died of AIDS before the mystery was formally solved. However, the clear probability -- and the consensus of experts at CDC and elsewhere who knew the details of the case -- is that the dentist intentionally injected his own blood serum into the young women who develop HIV and died of AIDS.
Avatar m tn Shut eyes or look away-------- then the stick happens and it may sting for a second or two but then it stops and you wonder why you fear it so much. It is just the anticipation of the needle I think.
Avatar n tn Prostitutes understand the dangers of their jobs and get tested routinely. You have nothing to fear from your experience. You are fine. If you are concerned, you can also get tested for peace of mind. If you dont have a cotton like feeling in your mouth or witness a change in taste, you do not have thrush. Does it affect other parts of your mouth as well?
Avatar n tn I put off having this root canal due to my fear of the procedure. I am NOT afraid of the pain...whatever, that will pass. I am terrified of dying during the root canal! This may sound silly but I am genuinely afraid that...
1243650 tn?1269094140 I told her of my fears and she said it might even help me go to the dentist with no anxity at all. I have a real fear, have been going to the dentist from ages 4 - 19 every 4-6 months with all my check ups adn always felt the same. Q: Has any one had this or any type of fear that Pristiq helped you face and deal with when needed??!!
Avatar m tn it is just a little plastic piece with a tiny hole on the tip of it to collect the blood. The hole is completely exposed to the air. And it was probably sitting on the table after the initial use for more than 3o minutes, before he used it on me (if he indeed reused it).
Avatar f tn as an example, i have a toothache that almost brought me to my knees last night and most people would just run to the dentist and get things sorted out. with me, i am more scared of the dentist than i am the toothache......although the toothache was something i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy if i even have one. so i am curious if there's anyone else like me. i don't take medicines. not even OTC stuff. i don't see doctors or dentists, but yet i have horrible health anxiety.
Avatar n tn Hi, A week ago today I met a girl who I kissed, not for a prolonged amount of time but open mouthed. I, at the time, had a small ulcer or bite on the inside of my cheek. Last night I put on a hooded jumper and felt a pain under the right side of my jaw. upon feeling it noticed a swollen and quite painful gland. I went to sleep and woke up with it quite a lot more swollen, and also two or three quite heavily swollen and sore on the left side as well.

557111 tn?1219712047 s not really that big of a deal, but I feel like I let my fear get the best of me. The way the dentist is here, all I would have to do is ask him for a script for vics or percs and he would have given them to me. That's how he is. I was just scared of the pain and for being weak and asking for pills. It was only a couple of cavity's for God's Sake!! My mouth is just sooooo small that any kind of dental work puts me in a lot of pain later on. The sprain my jaw almost everytime.
Avatar f tn Ok I'm a 15 year old male who has had many shots in life. Not in recent past though. My cousins always talked about fear of needles, and until that time I didn't mind them. Now they are the scariest things. At least I think remember I haven't had a shot recently except for at the dentist. I have readabout passing out when recieving a shot, although would that happen to me since I never have before? Do numbing solutions work?
Avatar f tn Hi, during the past few days I went to the dentist more than twice that of the stuffing nerve of the tooth and cleaning my teeth from decay , is transmitted hiv through the tools to impose it is sterile , with the knowledge that Dr. opens the tools in front of me , and wearing a glove and change the towels , I am very worried and it struck me great fear of hiv transmission through dental clinic .
Avatar m tn My weird fear at this time is that if by any chance the reddish spot on my hand was hep C positive blood (that I got from the door handle) and I licked this blood which got mixed in my saliva, right before the dentist injected the freezing in my gums...could I have any chance of contracting hep C as the injection might have hit a blood vessel and gotten into the bloodstream.
Avatar n tn Hi, i was wondering if it's possible to get HIV from a dentist visit. Yesterday i went for a regular check up to the dentist i always go to because he's supposed to be the best in the city and I ended up coming back with an irrational fear of contracting hiv. All he did was polish my teeth and when i got home my gums were sensitive so they were bleeding a little bit which caused me to get worried and wonder if the equipment he used was clean or not!
Avatar f tn You said that people got Hepatitis and HIV from dental procedures due to the needle used but is this possible for the normal magnifying glass instrument used by the dentist to check my mouth and by the suction instrument which releases water.
Avatar f tn What we can talk about here is that your logical brain is being overruled by your anxiety. Health anxiety is real. The fear you have, the symptoms of anxiety you have which could be a panic feeling, a burning chest, non stop ruminating all could be anxiety related. A therapist could be very beneficial to give you tools to reframe your thinking. To get to a point where you can use coping tools.
Avatar n tn I was ok but three days after the dentist i woke up with flu like symptoms and am really scared now that maybe i caught something, even though everything was in bags and she opened it up in front of me. The hose that they use at the dentist, i am really freaking out about, what are the chances of her just using it on someone else then covering it up again and use it on me? It looked really clean when i looked at it.
Avatar f tn I feel like its worth to save my money now because no matter what, every person on both sides of my family got dentures before the age of 40. My teeth are perfectly straight, wisdom teeth got taken out years ago, nothing to worrie about right? Anyone agree with me on this? Or should I re-evaluate my thinking process?
