Common Questions and Answers about Fear of rabies

Avatar m tn Fear of rabies isn't an uncommon thing, believe it or not. Many people with OCD find themselves obsessing over rabies. Have you been diagnosed with any kind of anxiety disorder, like OCD? It's HIGHLY unlikely that you came in contact with a rabid animal. If you did, like maria has said, you would likely see some obvious injuries. Rabies is also less common than many people think, and is hardly EVER contracted by humans.
Avatar m tn I have developed extreme rabies fear. Please help. So for the past 3 months I've been dealing with really really bad fear of rabies. Today after I've had retrieved a tennis ball from a bush, I noticed swelling and a minute puncture wound. I've automatically thought of the possibility of it being a bite from a rabid bat and freaked out. I was at a tennis club and there some people there and I did not see any bats.
Avatar n tn I think I have an irrational fear of rabies and something happened that put my fear into the stratosphere. My wife and I live in a "rabies free" country (Okinawa, Japan) however I have discovered that this does not include the huge number of bats that live here. We were driving down a back alley jungle road yesterday when I noticed there was a dead bat covered with flies on our side of the road.
Avatar f tn However i successfuly managed to escape from there. At the beginning of my fear of rabies i thought about it but later overcame of the fear of this encounter. 2nd=Almost 3years ago my neighbour's dog slightly scratched me with his teeth in my hand.I just washed the wound.Didnt took any vaccinations cuz i thought it was a pet dog there is no chance of getting rabies from that dog. That dog died after 1.5years of that incident.I was panicked mainly with this situation.
Avatar f tn About five mins later my arm was itching and burning. I look and find multiple red dots on my arm. Probably 10-15. Immediately my rabies fear came to mind. I’m afraid there was a bay tangled in the canopy and it but me without knowing. Would a bat bite be felt? Would it be a small mark or multiple marks like I had? Can they even climb up smooth surfaces like a plastic bin? There was no bat poop in the bin or on the canopy.
Avatar m tn ve been breaking down, I feel stressed and scared. I keep getting flashes of anxiety and I have this weight of sadness. My mouth also feels very dry. There was quite a lot of people and noise, so I didn't really notice anything besides the fact I got a drop of something in my mouth.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone so lately I've been stressed and anxious over this fear of rabies due to what happened earlier this week. Here's the story: On Monday night I was walking my dog as usual around 8:30ish PM at the park and we passed by this bush and there was a hole in it and so my dog started to get closer to it and sniff it. I didn't think anything of it and I was on my phone at the time. All of a sudden I hear my dog bark at something and half of her body was inside the bush.
Avatar f tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/rabies/symptoms-causes/syc-20351821 You don't need a rabies vaccine as you weren't at risk for rabies, but it would be best to get the cat vaccinated against rabies so you don't have to worry about the cat spreading rabies to you - or anyone else.
Avatar m tn Recently, my OCD has taken in my fear of bats and rabies. My brother and I were walking around an abandoned building taking pictures (been there before) in my town, everything was fine. We didn't go inside, just stepped into the doorway of a building then we started to head back. On then on the way back to the car I realized my neck hurt and my mind immediately went to that I got bit or scratched or touched by a bat with out knowing.
Avatar f tn Hm. So, do you think this is ocd? Is there a genuine threat? Do you know any person that has been bitten by a fat or fox (usually if you do not mess with either of these, they don't mess with you!) The idea of a microbat coming in and biting you is ya, anxiety. It's a what if, irrational fear. What do you do to treat your anxiety? It's treatable. They make good medications with fewer side effects these days and I'd consider that.
1933343 tn?1336242468 I have a fear of contamination and of contaminating others, and this episode is just awful. I have had issues with hiv fear, rabies fear, staph fear, and on and on. I don't know why things like this seem to continue to follow me. I know it soumds so bizarre, but this really happened. I would like to take them back to the store and sue them, but I know there is no way that I can prove that I was the only one who wore them after purchasing them.
Avatar n tn The odds of a bat catching rabies is far less than other animals. Less than 1/2 of 1% of all bats may contract the disease. There is only one to two human deaths per year from bat rabies in the United States. A person living in the U.S. is more likely to catch polio, leprosy or the plague than to contract rabies from a bat. If you are worried about any saliva that may of been left behind. Just clean the bathroom with a disinfectant and everything should be fine.
Avatar m tn First of all, I'm so for your loss. So anyway, someone told me that a dog could only have a rabies if it was bitten by a rabid animal. So, I think, there's no need for you to worry if your dog wasn't bitten.
Avatar f tn I’m looking for advice. I have an irrational fear of rabies. Every time i feel anything touch me outside my brain spins the narrative into a bat exposure. I was out cutting my grass at 6pm, a few hours away from dusk and I felt something hit my head lightly. My husband and neighbors were standing 10-15 feet away and no one saw anything. I’ve been obsessing since and even considering getting a vaccine to ease my fear. But I know that won’t fix the problem. I’ll just move on to the next.
1618629 tn?1308270701 I heard from the Dallas animal control people who checked up on the dogs after 10 days and the dogs were ok and the owners had all the records but for some reason I still cannot get rabies out of my head...lately I have felt kind of depressed and anxious and i have a feeling of tightness in my head...
Avatar m tn I wouldn't take chances where rabies is concerned. I'd ask for the shot.
Avatar f tn You have a number of fear situaitons although I am guessing from the title that they are all related to fear of rabies. It would be best to see a therapist because that would be one on one and give you a chance to bring out more of your background.
Avatar f tn After washing I saw a cat roaming there and felt that what if it had contaminated the bucket water. Should I need a rabies vaccine or I should seek a professional regarding my fear.
Avatar f tn I have a 7 month old puppy that has had his rabies shot. He had something in his mouth that my puppy was chewing on & I put my fingers in to take out what was in his mouth & while he was chewing down he bit the cuticle of my nail & started bleeding. I wanna know can I get rabies from my puppy?
Avatar n tn t feel any bite pain so after going home i checked my leg there is a mark which disappeared in 15 minutes so for safe side i started vaccination of rabies on 3 rd day after the incident .
Avatar m tn I read symptoms of rabies n get more upset. I curse myself that why i got vaccinated when the cat is fine.
Avatar m tn This is the same questions but with more details. I was playing with my one year old puppy who was clearly not in the mood. Out of annoyance, he fended me off with its mouth. He wasn't by any means snarling or growling, he just wants me to go away. My face just happened to be at the wrong place and his tooth accidentally poked my lip and it bled. I washed it off with some tap water and put a cotton ball to stop the bleeding.
Avatar f tn s have eliminated domestic dogs as reservoirs of rabies in the United States. Second, effective human rabies vaccines and immunoglobulins have been developed." If the dog had rabies it should be dead by now. One other hint would be the dog's behavior, you would expect a rabid dog to be sick and attack in consequence of fear, not a "normal" aggressive behavior.
