Common Questions and Answers about Fear of needles overcome

fear

Avatar f tn Ok I'm a 15 year old male who has had many shots in life. Not in recent past though. My cousins always talked about fear of needles, and until that time I didn't mind them. Now they are the scariest things. At least I think remember I haven't had a shot recently except for at the dentist. I have readabout passing out when recieving a shot, although would that happen to me since I never have before? Do numbing solutions work?

Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, but have been afraid of needles for my whole life. Can anyone suggest any alternatives to injecting insulin, or ways to overcome this fear?
Avatar f tn , cups, paper, sticks, trash, etc, but I have fear of it being a needle. The funny thing is, most of the time, I never review the photos; I guess just knowing I have them brings me relief. Before, I was even using a picker to pick things up off the ground, which I would store in the trunk of my car; however, I've pretty much gotten past that. It has come to the point that my condition is impacting my relationship.
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar n tn Aside from some adversion therapy, I suppose some talk therapy could help you out, but I think it would be a waste of money. You said you also have a fear of bloodwork. Most of us with anxiety issues have fears when we go for any kind of test, be it bloodwork or an X-ray or CT......so this is also very common. You said you just had some blood work done and you obviously survived, but now you have a fear that they used a dirty needle.
Avatar m tn I think your fear of needles is complicated by HIV anxiety. I found that to be fairly obvious when you purchased two brand new, unopened and sterile syringes, but STILL had a fear they may be contaminated. This goes a bit beyond a simple phobia about syringes and enters an area of irrational/obsessive thinking. What you were doing, I believe, was an attempt, and a courageous one, of exploring what is known as "exposure therapy.
Avatar m tn I was trying to get assurance on one symptoms, another symptoms I will pickup from the internet, like this cycle continuing, While browsing the anxiety I came across a word Variant Angina(which is without blockage, your arteries will go to temporary spasm/stop blood) I somehow manage to overcome this fear after lot of efforts but, one setback came, that, the way to diagnose is to hyperventilate the patient & do EKg. Since then i got more feared.
Avatar f tn I myself have a fear of needles, this is my second pregnancy.
Avatar m tn There has never been anyone contract HIV from a tattoo. Tattoo needles are solid needles.
Avatar m tn As the others have said, you have no risk. If you're unable to do your job as a result of your irrational phobia of HIV, you need to speak to your supervisor about being reassigned to a position in which you won't be around patients or needles because you're likely to make a mistake due to your phobia.
Avatar m tn You are stuck in the viscious cycle of doubt. Needles are not reused. Have you ever been diagnosed with OCD or Anxiety in general? It is hard to say whether this is OCD or Health Anxiety.
Avatar f tn If you are suffering from an irrational fear of HIV, then it is a good idea to seek therapy. Therapy can help you overcome those fears.
Avatar n tn t even get an epidural when I had my 2 older kids because of my fear of needles...but now I try not to watch them getting everything ready to draw blood. I pick a spot on the wall and stare at it until they are done. I also just talk to the lab tech about random things to take my mind off of it...its helped me a lot this pregnancy (I haven't cried yet!
Avatar n tn Thanks, mate. Your solution sounds pretty hard but I think I could give it a try. Though my biggest fear is not the fear that I'm having, but the fear that I'll have after any medical treatment(injection, etc.) in the future. But I guess I can try not to think about it..
Avatar n tn The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. I do not have a fear of flying in a jet airplane or inside tall buildings. It has become a real problem for me to enjoy skiing. I'm ok as long as I don't have any major "drop offs" thus limiting the area's where I can ski. I've tried to overcome the fear with little success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Agreed. But some of these fears can be overcome. Puppies and chicks tend to be fast moving. Find the right kind of puppy at a pound or store, and I bet his response will be different.
Avatar f tn When I read this I feel very bad for you. Your anxiety is overshadowing your life. Why are you taking another HIV test? Unless you have had unprotected vaginal or anal sex or shared IV drug needles, that is unnecessary. Testing over and over is just part of your anxiety.
Avatar f tn To overcome anxiety, one must understand the logic of why the brain is feeling threatened, it sends messages to the body saying its under threat. New pathways need to be created to overcome the old programming. So for example, if you panic over a fear of flying, you must start flying and let the brain realise that its all okay, and reprogram the thoughts. However, the fear of dying can't really be practiced. Some buddhists meditate in a morgue as it is the closest we can get to dying.
Avatar n tn Doctors dont re used needles why would they? They cost nothing not to mention they are trained not to do so. Its all in your head quite frankley. Even if they did, as zam said, HIV once exposed to air then its very unlikley to pose any risk, but the risk is nothing more than in your vivid imagination than reality.
Avatar m tn Im almost 15 and I have a fear of hiv, i am acting like a retard, im not touching anything, im making my parents crazy and i cant have a normal life. i don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn I just found out that I'm pregnant with baby number three. I'm really nervous about the blood testing. No, I haven't been sleeping around with multiple men. I'm not on drugs. My health has been normal beside nausea and that could be due to morning sickness. I feel perfectly fine. That doesn't mean that I am. I'm hoping that I am fine. My worst fear is hearing bad news. I always had a big fear when it comes to blood testing.
Avatar f tn I would encourage you not to get tested and tested unless you have had an exposure such as unprotected vaginal or anal sex, sharing of needles with a drug user or mother to child via breast milk. Other than that, you can relax, you are not going to get HIV. Believe me I have had every fear about it just like you. I don't get tested. It only brings temporary - or sometimes no relief- and then you will feel like you want it again the next time you are triggered.
