524126 tn?1215288595 fear of going out, fear of speaking, fear of, well, fear of having another panic attack. Argh! Point being: you've got it, you understand it. Now, get some therapy and get outta this mess!
Avatar f tn A specialist in the area of phobias would be your best bet.
Avatar n tn The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. I do not have a fear of flying in a jet airplane or inside tall buildings. It has become a real problem for me to enjoy skiing. I'm ok as long as I don't have any major "drop offs" thus limiting the area's where I can ski. I've tried to overcome the fear with little success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
1063332 tn?1254751034 Phobias are a consequence of anxiety, so all of us here probably suffer phobias. They occur when you get anxious over something and panic, and then become conditioned to panicking in that situation. CBT might be an option.
486038 tn?1300063367 No, my family doesn't have any phobias... although I had a near drowning experience and am afraid of deep water (oceans and deep lakes----not my bath water, and I can even swim in a pool up to my chin). I had to make some more calls today, and I survived... I just told myself to handle it, take a deep breath and call and just chill. I think I can do this and perhaps some therapy or some deep breathing exercises would help (smiles), it's just so abnormal.
Avatar f tn Dont give up hope, you are definitely not alone, as emetophobia is one of the most common phobias in the world. Good luck---and I encourage you to seek help through therapy!
7581744 tn?1393535329 I have had OCD since I was four years old. I have an irrational fear of snakes. It's so bad it took me about fifteen seconds just to type the word. Any tips on getting over irrational fears?
Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
190673 tn?1259203266 almost 2 decades living with anxiety, fears, phobias, depression, ocd and what not, i finally got better, but today i had a fight with someone in front of my house and the freak left me with a threat that he will kill me. now i cannot stop thinking about the threats and my anxiety is reaching the roof. i did call the police and all that but since we dont know who he is, it is going to cripple me for who knows how long.
Avatar n tn I have a four year old daughter who is extremely afraid of any kind of insect, whether it's big or small. If a bug is near her, she screams and panics. She is also afraid of loud noise, for ex.I can't vacuum, blow dry my hair, make eggs, anything that makes any type of loud noise or even when we grill, she is hiding. When in the pool, she is afraid of leaves that fall in the pool and bugs that are in the water.

Avatar n tn We want to know what to do about our 6 year old daughters fear of the dark. She has been afraid of the dark for a long time but it has gotten worse lately. We just moved to a new home. She has her own room but it is a jack and jill meaning that there is a bathroom and closet between her room and her twin brothers room.
Avatar f tn Yes, it not only can be but often is not only combined with depression but caused by it. But as for the anxiety, labels are useful in some ways but not usually for the person suffering the anxiety -- it can attach to anything because it's a way the brain has become prone to thinking for reasons most of us never figure out. So for you right now it's HIV, but it could just as easily be something else.
2194148 tn?1397323475 I have suffered from PTSD and chronic depression all my life. Had many treatments, but have always had residual problems. One of them is phobias. I used to have the "normal" phobias, heights, plane rides, etc. Now, it seems, as I am getting older, everything I do I become afraid of! I used to have a timeshare on a houseboat, but now I am afraid to go on a boat for fear that it will blow up or in the ocean, we will go down a whirlpool, or there will be a giant wave.
1092880 tn?1273975025 For instance, I have a gigantic fear of spiders now when I was never ever afraid of them before. I use to make fun of my younger brother and uncle because they are afraid of them and I picked up a spider, would throw it on them and laugh when they screamed like little girls and ran..lol. I know it may seem mean but, I was younger and thought it was funny. =D Anyway, after I developed my anxiety disorder, BAM: suddenly this overwhelming fear of spiders.
Avatar f tn my 13-year-old daughter has had the same couple of phobias her whole life. i know most kids have weird fears but come on, shes THIRTEEN and still has the strangest phobias around. examples: 1. she cannot stand anything that dangles or swings from a ceiling. this includes the pull-strings on a ceiling fan or even a punching bag that is hung on a ceiling. even at malls, where they have huge banners that dangle from the high roof, she freaks out. 2. when large bodies of water are WAVY.
Avatar n tn I am trying to figure out how to fix this feeling too. I guess we all have to have this fear at the end of all our anxieties/phobias. It is the ultimate problem of what we would all be scared about. I don't even know who to talk to about this. I mean, I can tell my Dr. that the problem with my panic attacks is the ultimate fear of death, but what the heck is she gonna say to that? Uhhhh.....not much you can do about that? It's the inevitable. Well, time to take my Lexapro.
608208 tn?1220398134 i go to the DR alot and actually pretty healthy outside of smoking and needing to drop some weight. For some reason i have this odd fear of having a heart attack and dying. Not even sure why i am, Ive had my heart checked very recently and everything was fine. Its pretty much constantly on my mind.
Avatar n tn My main objective is to give you some insight into your chronic phobia of the dark. The fear of the dark is a very valid phobia to begin with and could branch into many other more specific phobias, such as nyctophobia, the fear of the darkness and the main one I wish to talk to you about now. Nyctophobia is any fear of darkness and it does not have to be chronic. It is usually caused by a magnification of the brain's natural perception of what could happen in a dark environment.
Avatar f tn I have some of the same concerns and for that reason I always request an open MRI so that I can see whats going on the whole time. That is a specific version of the test but how the test itself works remains the same. A CT scan is a completely different test and might not show the same results. I also speak to the staff in advance about any accomodations I might need. I have generally acheived positive results and they have been able to run the tests without any concerns.
Avatar f tn What is the best way to overcome anxiety that is rooted in the fear of disease
Avatar f tn See a therapist, ask your doctor, they can easily fix you up with one.
925572 tn?1246540031 Please don't lose hope, and don't hurt yourself. That horrible, deep, dark hole is the worst thing in the world. There are meds that can be taken during pregnancy; please work with your doctor. Please DO get help if it gets too bad...it's alway available, not something to fear or be ashamed of...short term hospitalization could help get a treatment plan for your pregnancy in place while you stay safe. Take care. Let us know how you're doing. I care.
Avatar f tn I have actually had this happen. This was never a fear of mine until I experienced it and now I will freak out and even start crying if I even hear a buzzing near my ear. Kinda traumatizing. But do not fear the possibility of this actually napping is very low!! I'm just one of the unlucky ones lol. If by chance you do have this happen it is very easily and quickly fixed. Get yourself to the hospital and they will get it Out quick!
