Common Questions and Answers about Fear of drowning in a car phobia

fear

Avatar m tn It's not a fear of suffocation, it is a fear of being trapped because knowing that my brain is trapped inside my head caused me panic and knowing that I am trapped and can't escape the sense of touch caused me panic as well.
105530 tn?1279585282 I'm just over terrified of being in a car. I'm scared to death I will be hurt in a wreck or killed. Or even the person I'm with. It scareeesss mee sooo bad! I seriously, cry in the car. I keep my eyes closed on the interstate, and freak out and take gasps of air when the light turns green. It's a horrible feeling.. Strange thing is though... when I'm driving it's NOT AS BAD.. But I still get panic attacks, just not as horrible.
Avatar f tn I don't believe your fear of the dark is anything more than a phobia and it has nothing to do with OCD. I wish I had some sort of magic solution for you, but I don't. Many phobias can be dealt with by simply avoiding what causes the fear, like if someone had a phobia about water, don't go to the beach, if you had a phobia about ferris wheels, don't get on one. But the dark? Pretty difficult to avoid. Dark happens. Every day.
Avatar f tn I think I have developed a AIDS phobia as a result of their status so my guard is always up around them. So it's no surprise to say I freaked out massively, my head was spinning and had a panic attack. It was cold so my lips were chapped and I have been thinking the saliva entered my bod through my cracked lips! I have read HIV info which says you can't get it through saliva , it's not infectious or active etc but I am still scared.
Avatar n tn We went out with one of our friends in their car. They have 2 children (aged 7 and 5). When we entered the car my daughter was so excited...but few mins later she started crying badly to go back home...nothing was sooting her that time..not even her father was able to control her. still we continued for the beach area..after we got down from the car she became calm and stated playing with the kids (running and racing)...again after 15 mins we got in the car to go back home and she was the same.
537497 tn?1292553056 Anxiety. THAT'S what "wrong" with your brain. We all swallow stuff down the wrong pipe and it does hurt like hell, but how many of us drown from it? My guess is about zero. Google this episode of the young boy "dry drowning" and I promise you your fear will be gone! Enjoy that iced tea!
Avatar n tn We do this every time we drive a car or climb a ladder. Life is full of risk. But when you overwhelm yourself with fear, you become frozen and don't function and that's worse than what you're trying to avoid, so that's what you need to work on.
Avatar n tn This sounds like an unfounded fear you have developed and I too, feel therapy would help you a lot. Were you in a car accident of this nature in the past, this would cause your fear? Anxiety causes most of us to develop fears like this, some have a root cause and others don't. Therapy will help you determine why you have this fear, and how to get over it. If therapy doesn't help (I think it will) there are medications to ease your fear.
Avatar f tn I first have to ask why someone with an "extreme HIV phobia" would work in a lab such as you do. I have an extreme fear of snakes and they couldn't pay me enough to work around the things. I also can't understand how someone in your position in not one of the most highly qualifed people to know how difficult it is to actually contrract HIV. You say that you always wear the correct protective gear while working with these specimens.
Avatar f tn Obviously you did not penetrate. This thread shows that your hiv phobia is not getting better, so I suggest you see a therapist before it gets out of control.
Avatar f tn Here is how you get HIV, the ONLY way you'd get HIV: if you have unprotected penetrative vaginal or anal sex or sharing of drug needles. Hiv is inactivated by air and saliva. Every time you have a fear of HIV, remember that. It should alleviate the worry. If you didn't do these things, you aren't going to get HIV.
Avatar f tn ve learned four different forms of meditation -- TM, the one I do regularly, which is a Hindu mantra based meditation, Mindfulness, which can be done in different ways but is basically watching your breath, Shinay, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation where you watch a point in front of you, and a Taoist meditation. There are a million of them, but what I like about learning them in a spiritual setting is that they get you to start meditation without you realizing it.
Avatar f tn You could also bring along a puzzle book, like a word search, etc. I have a lot of anxiety in the car when my panic is peaking, and puzzle books are a really nice distraction for me, they help a lot. That's because I'm focused on something else, while at the same time, not looking AT the carm or the traffic and other things that would make me anxious.
Avatar f tn m sorry you feel this way and have such great fear of snow. While it is reasonable to have fear of driving in snow---- perhaps you are talking about the level of your reaction? I know that I too do not like driving in snow. I live in an area where there is often ice beneath it and have had a few bad driving experiences. So . .. I get my groceries (like EVERYONE else, wow, our grocery is packed if there is bad weather in the forecast . . .
Avatar m tn As the others have said, you have no risk. If you're unable to do your job as a result of your irrational phobia of HIV, you need to speak to your supervisor about being reassigned to a position in which you won't be around patients or needles because you're likely to make a mistake due to your phobia.
Avatar m tn I have anxiety and a really big phobia of HIV. Mostly I think of scary stuff and then I'm anxious and then convinced the actual scary thought happened. Yesterday I cut my finger on the sharp edge of a shoe box at the store. It sliced my finger almost like a paper cut and started to bleed. I left the store and sat in my car debating on whether I could go in the next store with my bloody finger.
Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
Avatar f tn How can I get over a phobia. I have a very weird phobia, i always have the fear of some bug or creature flying in my ear. I never wear my hair up outside and I try to have my hair down inside too if i can. Even when i am sleeping i hate to have my ears not covered. What should i do?
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar n tn i have a phobia of hiv/aids which i think has been brought on by OCD because i never used 2 be scared of it, im in constant fear of blood and people throwing it at me on the street and also people always having blood on them. i know this all sounds really stupid but i just cant help it. it used to be finding plasters and needles everywhere but that stopped and now this has started. so if anyone can help me it would really be much appriciated.
Avatar m tn I HAVE NORMAL READINGS OF BLOOD PRESSURE AT HOME WHEN IN A RELAXED FRAME OF MIND BUT i GOT A HIGH READING AT THE DOC. OFFICE A YEAR AGO AND THE NURSE SCARED ME,saying are you feeling okay your reading is high, I totally panicked.
17213106 tn?1456525991 DGL is just a form of common licorice, with the part taken out responsible for most of the side effects commonly reported from licorice (mostly high blood pressure). Mastic gum is just a gum resin, like so many others used to thicken foods and chew on. But if I were feeling better without taking anything, I probably wouldn't take anything. But that's another issue. Finding h.
Avatar f tn No. That fear you have is called a phobia. HIV phobia with severe bouts of anxiety. You need to see a doctor. NOT because you fear HIV. You have NO chance of having HIV. You need to see a doctor to help you with you phobia and anxiety. It will really help.
1353681 tn?1387083733 and it started years ago when I was in the car w/ a friend who drove kind of recklessly..speeding down a hill, and I really got scared /felt out of control...and have always gotten that feeling ever since I have made progress in the past 2 years though, and am so grateful I can somewhat get in a front seat..but only when its w/my sister..she is very accepting of it and has driven slow sometimes so I could start to expose myself more and more, and it really has helped!
