Avatar n tn I highly recommend the follwing resources to help you over-come this fear of driving. In my opinion they are priceless and well worth the money. If you can afford them, I would order them today so you can get your recovery on the road. They have been instrumental in my recovery and I actually keep them in the car with me, just in case. 1) The Driving Fear Program - www.drivingfear.
1074864 tn?1256932915 You are not actually fearful of driving or travelling itself, but rather the fear of losing control if you have another panic attack. This is because when we have a panic attack, the first thing we want to do is to retreat to our "safe place", which for most people is our home. The further away from our comfort zone, the more uncomfortable we feel.
Avatar n tn I too struggle with panic attacks and the fear of them returning. Have you talked to your dr about this? You might want to consider talking with a therapist. I do know that if you let the fear take over your mind it is only going to get worse. The best advice I can give you is to talk to someone and try to face the fear. Get back in your car and go for a drive even if it is only around the block. Each time you do it it will get easier. You have to take your control back.

8377023 tn?1399509160 My biggest fear out of everything is my water breaking while driving their car. I am absolutely terrified that this is going to happen. I have already gotten contractions while driving with one of the twins, thankfully the contractions weren't crazy bad, and this happened today. I dont know what to do besides calling their aunt, Chris, my mom and my doctor. Like what should I tell their aunt if that happens? To just meet me at the hospital or what?
1785438 tn?1314987935 Hi. Unfortunately this all evolves around your anxiety and you're developing Agoraphobia which will hold you prisoner in your home (safe place). Driving is a big trigger for many with panic attacks it goes along with Agoraphobia, fear of open places and fear you'll have a panic attack, the feeling of being "trapped" wherever you are.

Avatar f tn t you get a dashboard camera (you could probably use your smartphone if it has enough memory). Record yourself driving. When you feel this fear, check the video and you will see that you have not hot anyone. At first, try driving for a short distance and then check the video. Then try driving a longer distance. You will be doing some self-exposure therapy and will have solid evidence that nothing bad has happened. Hang in there!
1804812 tn?1329677557 Boy, can I relate!! MANY of us can! This goes hand in hand with panic. " I am known as the "back roads" queen because I can get to just about anywhere on small streets and county roads. I always feel like I need to have a place I can pull over". Me too! LOL. I HATE highways. I explored this fear with my therapist years ago, and she explained to me that the fear stems from our basic fear of becoming "trapped" somewhere, with no option of "escape".
Avatar m tn I also had an fear of driving, I was so afraid I would have an anxiety attack while I was driving that I was petrified to drive. I was a regular commuter for many many years, and hour or more each way to and from work. This fear hit me all of the sudden one day, I had my first anxiety attack at work, and it was such a horrible feeling, that I was afraid I would have another one anywhere I was, in the car, at a store, at a party, anywhere......
Avatar n tn yes, same! Lost it at 6.5 weeks in November. I hadn't any trouble before with my first two so it was a real shock. I find every time there's extra discharge (sorry) I think it's blood! And I feel quite grateful every time a smell or a meal makes me feel nausea as that means it's still there. I only have one shot at this again because of my age, and the ages of my other two so it's very hard to get to a place of peace.
Avatar f tn need I say more? The fear of being stuck in traffic and suddenly needing to go is a real fear based on a real problem. Generally I prepare for trips, and if shopping, make it a focused shop. No more aimless driving. I have to have a plan and stick to it. Same in stores: meandering around in a hugh store is sure to bring on panic. So again I now plan and stick to it. One department for shoes. No checking out several stores or departments.
Avatar m tn If you are dealing with anxiety, I think it would be very beneficial for you to talk things over with a therapist. Those of us with anxiety will often latch onto a fear and we are pros at blowing things out of proportion. You're gonna be OK, OK?
938258 tn?1245061496 The beta-blockers have been successful in preventing his afib for over 8 years, so they are a major help of course. It would be good to be informed about the long term impact though, but our doctor hasn't been able to give us these answers. After the last episode we fear it may get worse, and that at some point cardioversion will no longer be an option. So he is considering ablation.
Avatar f tn Any benzo can cause one to have a tolerance and can be habit forming. Both of these medications are usually prescribed short term, while you start your talk therapy and possilby other longer term medications like SSRIs (Zoloft, Prozac, etc.). Anxiety can be a hard challenge to confront, but with knowledge and understanding you will not only get through it, you will thrive with it....Welcome to the forum and keep asking as many questions as you like!!
Avatar m tn but every time I see one, my anxiety sky rockets. I have a fear of even driving by a used needle and thinking it could be contaminated with hepatitis b or c. its as though I fear blood from the needle will get on my car or tires and then on to me. really cant comprehend how to deal with this.
Avatar m tn Of course there is always a what if, but we also take a risk by walking down the street, driving our cars, etc. Have you ever thought of talking to a therapist about this? Health anxiety is quite common in this forum and can really take a toll on us unless we get to the bottom of it. Keep us posted!
324396 tn?1297350712 Maybe the real question is....what symptoms does one exhibit if diagnosed with agoraphobia? As DJ as said the term is from the Greek, I believe, meaning 'fear of the marketplace'. I am diagnosed with it....and that is one aspect of disorder. Took time for me to get comfortable shopping for groceries. Generally other words are used these days by psychiatrists....but severe untreated agoraphobia has the power to keep one imprisoned in his/her home. The onset can be gradual..
Avatar f tn It not just driving any more it's being alone, always need someone to be with me...Feeling sad for no reason..heart racing, pain in left arm and shoulders tension and the list goes on..just want to feel better!!
1854861 tn?1333474904 I'm six and a half wks pregnant with my first child. My biggest fear so far is miscarriage. I hate to worry so much because I know stress can cause miscarriage itself. Is there any way I can ease this fear? I'm almost 23, active, stable long term relationship, no history of miscarriage in family, quit smoking day before pregnancy confirmation, non drinker, no drugs. But this is my first child out of MY uterus.
Avatar f tn I have a slight tingle/ somewhat of a slight itch in parts of my vagina and rectum and a tingly sensation on my right thigh. This has been going on for about 4 days now. There are no signs of any lesions. I did shave before having intercourse with him so I did have a slight razor rash however this is normal everytime I've shaved in the past. My vagina is also a bit red, so it looks like I have a rash but no sign of lesions or ulcers? And normal discharge.
Avatar f tn It can be very hard and frustrating being on the outside looking in, but I would appeal to the safety of her children and her long term health for her family. She is going to see a mental healthcare professional, which will definitely help in my opinion. Can you also talk to her doctor....she can't quit medications like these 'cold turkey.' She is going to have to taper off of them slowly if she comes of them. Be patient (with her), but be forceful with safety....
Avatar f tn My aunt did she made it safely and so did the baby
Avatar f tn Fear is a common symptom of anxiety and depression. Almost always one of the predominate ones. Our nervous systems are 'out of wack' and we feel unstable as a result. Few people really appreciate their nervous system and it's complexities. You should discuss this symptom with your doctor and see what he can do.
