Common Questions and Answers about Fasting blood glucose test results

Avatar n tn Please may I have some advice on Fasting Glucose results? My daughter is having a blood test tomorrow for Glucose and Sex Hormones (She is a teenager with Ovarian Failure). As a consequence she is 'off' her BCP and has been for nearly six weeks. Please, how may this affect the Glucose results? For my daughter, 'normal' means being on BCP/HRT - she'll need to be on HRT for the next 35 yrs! However, I have read that BCP/HRT elevates results...
4695766 tn?1358179885 I just had a fasting glucose test results were 150, doctor wants me to get more tests done. Does it sound like I'm diabetic? My mom was one.
Avatar n tn ___________________________________ What is a fasting blood sugar test? A fasting blood sugar test measures the amount of sugar (glucose) in your blood after you fast for eight hours. What's normal? Your fasting blood sugar is normal if it's 70 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or 3.88 millimoles per liter (mmol/L), to 100 mg/dL (5.55 mmol/L). What level suggests prediabetes? If your fasting blood sugar is 100 mg/dL (5.55 mmol/L) to 125 mg/dL (6.94 mmol/L), you may have prediabetes.
Avatar n tn My fasting glucose results (Glucose Plasma-Hexokinase), three in last three months have been in the range of 108-120 mg/dL (normal range 70 - 100). In my last test I also got the HbA1c checked, it is: High Performance Liquid Chromatography-HPCL = 5.5 % (normal range 4.27 -6.07) The question is that fasting glocose test is indicating high glucose level but HbA1c in reasonably below the max. value. Which one is to be relied upon? Shall I be concerned at these glucose levels? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn The office nurse called me today and said that everything was okay w/the lab results except that the blood glucose test result was 54. She then asked if I had fasted before the appointment, which I had not. In fact, I had eaten breakfast no more than 2 hours before. I'm always tired, sometimes "bottoming out", get blurred vision at times, and sometimes feel faint. Do the #54 and the other symptoms indicate hypoglycemia and is that the same as having Diabetes?
Avatar n tn I am fit, eat well and exercise regularly. I had a complete physical one month ago and the doctor sent me the blood work results. At the bottom he wrote "all test results look very good" Next to the lipid profile he wrote "excellent". The problem is, the glucose number (after fasting) was 125. The reference rage on that line was 70-126. My last phsyical 2 years prior with a different doctor included complete blood work.
Avatar f tn Hi, like 6 weeks ago i had a blood test and my fasting glucose was 118.8 mg/dl 2 weeks later fasting was 115.2 mg/dl. Now 2 weeks ago it was 126.54 mg/dl. (and i am on diet for more then a year and also take medicine). Could these results mean that i developed diabetes?
Avatar m tn 1, fasting glucose 92). An additional fasting glucose test a few months later was normal at 94. Just a few days ago, I got another blood test and my fasting glucose was back up to 101. So in the past year, my results have been 102, 92, 94, and 101. I am 34 years old, very athletic, and not overweight at all. I am concerned about diabetes because both my aunt and uncle on my mother's side had type 1 diabetes, though my mother did not. Should I be concerned about the latest 101 result?
Avatar f tn Ask him/her for the C-Peptide test as Zoe suggested along with a thyroid [TSH test] checked. Abnormal thyroids can and will disrupt blood glucose levels. Lastly, along with morning fasting testing it is important to know when to test [prandial & postprandial], especially with strenuous exercise. Post back if unsure and we can provide the times.
551604 tn?1333986735 * Fasting blood glucose level ≥95 mg/dl (5.33 mmol/L) * 1 hour blood glucose level ≥180 mg/dl (10 mmol/L) * 2 hour blood glucose level ≥155 mg/dl (8.6 mmol/L) * 3 hour blood glucose level ≥140 mg/dl (7.8 mmol/L) I also failed the 3 hour one, but many people who fail the 1 hour pass the 3 hours with flying colors. Dont stress Jen, try to take it easy....Keep us updated, good luck!
Avatar f tn In going for my glucose test tomorrow and I was wondering if it was OK to eat before the test or not. I have heard it was ok but I have also heard that you shouldn't because it will mess the test up. What should I do?
Avatar f tn I just got home from by blood glucose test and feel really sick and tired. Is this normal? Does it mean something is wrong?
551604 tn?1333986735 So you ladies know that I work in the hospital where I'm going to give birth, so therefore I can look at my own test results. Well I had my Glucose challenge this morning and the test came as 138mg/dl (without having nothing to eat prior to the test). I called my doctor right away, but I left him a message.... From doing some research online, I see my number is too high!!! What do you guys think??? Please help, I don't want to have GD!!
Avatar n tn I have always suffered from hypoglycemic attacks (increased pulse rate, dizziness, shaking, etc.) when I go too long without eating. However, my fasting glucose was 102 during a recent test. That seems odd to me - I was very suprised to find out that it was high instead of low. Does anyone know what this might mean? Hope I'm not posting in the wrong area... just thought someone might have some insight. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Ok so I failed my one hr glucose test. I attempted my three hr one but after the first hour it all came right back up and my face was really broke out for two days. So now they want me to take it again. What if it comes back up. I'm almost 32 wks and I just feel like they should give up already or find another solution.
Avatar n tn How could the sugar level be at it's highest at fasting and then goes down after drinking all of that glucose? My doctor said, prior to the results of the 3 hour test, that she would adjust the level down 10 on the fasting due to stress. Would it be a safe assumption that the 146 could have been taken to 136? Based on her 140 cut off, I wouldn't have to be going through this mental and physical abuse.
231441 tn?1333896366 I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight. Regardless of the results of your glucose test, you should continue to keep an eye on your blood sugars during your pregnancy because you are at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes given your history.
Avatar f tn hello glucose level is 217 and fasting sugar level is may i know if my condition is too severe or mild in terms of diabetes??? plz let me know my condition....thank u...
590190 tn?1235968026 I am 29 weeks and recently took the glcuose test, no fasting involved. I had lunch at 12 including two yummy cookies and drank the glucose drink at 3 and had my blood drawn at 4. I get a call the next day because my levels were a little high @ 146. So I'm going to get another 3 hour test done on monday, should I be concerned or worried about gestational diabetes? nervious about this...
Avatar f tn You don't need to fast prior to the test. It's to see how your body metabolizes glucose. If your results fall within 'normal' you should be good to go. If not you'll have to do another glucose tolerance test. For this one you do have to fast (12 hours) and it's usually a 2 hour test. You'll have your fasting blood drawn, drink an even sweeter drink and then you'll get your blood drawn again 2 hours later. Again, you have to remain on premises. It's all to test for gestational diabetes.
8924846 tn?1410576501 You're doing the one hour glucose test. The three hour test is usually done if you "fail" the first or if there is an unusual/concerning result. The 3 hour is a fasting test. No eating between 8 and 12 hours prior to drinking the drink and then they draw your blood at the first hour mark after you drink, then the second hour mark after, and finally the third hour mark after and look at the results together.
Avatar f tn How long did it take to know I took the test on Monday and I'm worried
Avatar f tn These foods can elevate your sugar levels in your blood which may cause your test results to be elevated, although some people don't fast at all and their results come back fine.
669150 tn?1320690733 when i took mine they didnt say anything about fasting, BUT if results come up a little high and u need a 3 hour test then yes that is fasting but the one hour i ate like normal 1 piece of toast wth peanut butter yogurt and juice
Avatar f tn who had there glucose test already??
