Famvir single dose

Common Questions and Answers about Famvir single dose

famvir

Avatar n tn How long have you been taking the valtrex? What dose are you taking? Headaches are a normal side effect of the herpes antivirals but they typically will go away in a week or two. What mad eyou start suppressive therapy? You might want to consider switching to acyclovir or famvir instead and see if you do better on either of those. You can even start off at a low, subtheraputic dose and gradually increase your dose over the course of 2-3 weeks and see if you tolerate that better too.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to get outbreaks while on treatment? After the initial outbreak which was treated with single-dose famvir, I had no symptoms for 3 weeks except sore throat/adenopathy. My doctor gave me acyclovir 250mg 3x a day, 7 days to see if it would treat the adenopathy and after a few days on it i had an outbreak. He said that was almost impossible to have an outbreak on a treatment dose.
Avatar f tn I hope someone can help. I've had horrible recurring pain in my right eye for over a year. Went to Optho. multiple times and was told it was an infected oil gland. I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution. I developed a rash on my buttocks months into this that my GP diagnosed as shingles and prescribed Famvir.
Avatar m tn You get much better relief from ob's by taking acyclovir 2x/day every single day. You can do this for under $20/month in the US even if you don't have insurance. Lysine doesn't help to heal ob's faster. It also doesn't suppress the virus. For acyclovir when you first start feeling an ob about to start, take either 400mg 3x/day for 5 days or 800mg 2x/day for 2 days. Both speed healing at the same rate.
651674 tn?1224452312 For cold sores the famvir dose is 1500 mg once as soon as you notice the start of a cold sore. All the herpes antivirals only help to speed the healing of a cold sore by a few days on average but it shortens the duration of shedding as well in many folks if you take it soon enough, can even ward off a full blown cold sore. Probably you are fighting off another viral infection that triggered the cold sore from the sounds of things.
Avatar m tn In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days. that period was from friday 15th jan until the following weekend. however today, 24th jan, a week since my last outbreak, the herpes has come back in exactly the same place and same symptoms as last week! this has never happened before with only 3-4 outbreaks in 3 years, and now 2 in less than 2 weeks! how can this happen?!
Avatar f tn you might want to switch from famvir to valtrex - probably the 1gm daily dose or even the 500mg 2x/day dose and see if that works better for you. are you on steroids for your cf?
Avatar f tn I had several outbreaks even being on this med (mostly cold sores for me) but the doctors were not that concerned, they just upped the dose to the treatment dose (two pills instead of one for a few days)
Avatar f tn If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.
Avatar m tn Did you tested for HHV 6 ?? It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn What are you taking for medication? Perhaps you need a higher dose, if this is indeed herpes, like 1000 mg of valtrex instead of 500 mg, or switch to acyclovir if you are on valtrex, or even famvir. If these things weren't cultured, and you were diagnosed by sight, get them cultured ASAP. You should be seeing an ophthalmologist for your eye - don't let your regular doctor handle this.
Avatar m tn It seems that famvir and lysine are not effective on the herpes that was dormat before prednisone treatment. Does anyone have any suggestion on what may be effective?
Avatar f tn t a trigger for oral herpes to reoccur though sometimes the stress of surgery in general can trigger recurrences. If you are concerned, take a 1 day cold sore dose of valtrex or famvir the day prior to surgery. You can also repeat a few days later if you want for peace of mind.
Avatar f tn You could also ask to double your prescription dose, since the suppressive dose is clearly not doing much for you. You could give it another week before switching to the third antiviral, but ten days seems to be plenty of time for the drug to show a difference. I will say that now that you've mentioned the change in your hormonal levels, I would have no trouble believing that it's a likely culprit.
Avatar n tn My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?
Avatar n tn The treatment dose for famvir is 1000 mg twice a day for one day for genital herpes, and for cold sores, take a single dose of three 500-mg tablets at the first sign or symptom of an outbreak (within 1 hour). After that, you could go right into the suppression dose, which is 250 mg twice a day. That said, I wonder if this is all herpes. You wouldn't get herpes on your torso.
Avatar m tn Hi, I was just wondering if i'm still supposed to be having a genital itch when taking the 500mg daily dose famvir for genital herpes? also I'm wondering If I actually do have genital herpes?
Avatar m tn 4gms/day (from Pentasa 4gms/day) one month ago. I was started on Famvir today-500mg tid. I am leaving for Hawaii on Wednesday and am scheduled to swim with the dolphins on Thursday. I have completed my first full day's dose of medicine and will continue until the prescription is completed. I am then staying on a maintenance dose of 250mg/day until I can get the vaccine in 6mos at age 60. My question is if it is safe for me to go ahead with my scheduled dolphin swim.
Avatar f tn ( your provider is once again prescribing you the wrong dose of famvir too. It is 1gm twice a day for 1 day to treat herpes recurrences. They are prescribing you the shingles doses which aren't needed for genital herpes. There is no benefit to treating for 7 days - most recurrences are almost healed on their own during that time. side effects are the same with all herpes antivirals actually - they aren't higher with acyclovir.
Avatar m tn are you sure that they typed your infection or just that it was + for herpes and assumed to be hsv2 since it was below the waist? if you aren't sure, well worth trying to find out. It doesn't matter how long you've been infected. We have studies showing that the virus sheds as much whether you've been infected 3 years or over 20 years. makes no difference where you typically get lesions either.
