Just to let you know, as a general fact you can get oral herpes from giving oral sex to someone with genital herpes, especially if the individual has type 1 genital herpes. However, if both of you have genital herpes then you already have antibodies for the virus. This means that as long as you perform oral sex when you partner is not having an outbreak you are not likely to become infected orally.
Since you show negative now it could be assumed that its a recent infection or you dont have herpes at all. The only way to know if you have oral herpes at this point, is to have a swab of a new lip sore within 48 hours after appearing or to stop taking the antivirals and reblood test in 3 months.
From what you describe about the lip sores, it does not appear it was herpes as they are open lip sores not red marks.
however, around a month after recieving the oral sex i got symptoms of redness and a little inflamation on the head of my penis (im not sure if this was herpes or not) and i took my famvir tablets as prescibed and it clearly up within a week.
3 months later i had a herpes outbreak (i know it was herpes this time, classic symptoms) and again i took famvir and it cleared up within a week or so. that was in january 2009, and now its june and i have had another herpes outbreak.
Also my doctor prescribed famvir but I don't have genital herpes. Can Famvir help with penis pain?
acyclovir cream isn't very effective in general. it is actually recommended more so for oral herpes than genital herpes though it's usefulness is limited for both.
Oral antivirals in the cold sore doses work better. plenty of cheaper and better topicals to apply to a cold sore for pain relief than acyclovir. Ask your provider for a prescription for oral acyclovir, famvir or valtrex in the cold sore doses and use an otc pain relief topical instead if the cold sore hurts.
I was not comfortable with the dr so i went to see another one, he prescribed me famvir and told me to come back in 6 weeks for testing for herpes, though he saw nothing he could culture or anything indicative of herpes. The famvir relieved my symptoms though every time i go off it i get about 5 days of relief before symptoms start to come back. I also have had general (and painful) adenopathy since early feb. but dr dismissed it as no big deal.

A sore throat and phlegm are not std symptoms - that's a common upper respiratory infection. nothing you've mentioned sounds like oral herpes and the provider who told you otherwise probably doesn't see many primary oral herpes infections :( did she even bother to do a culture to look for strep and/or herpes?
I was infected with oral HSV1 March 2010 and I suffered extreme & continuous symptoms. Since the beginning of this year the podrome seemed less intense but still frequent on my lips, cheeks, chin & tongue and respond well to wiping with hand wipes containing benzalkonium chloride & applications of ice, alcohol & aloe vera. I have been so careful to always wash my hands if touching my face or mouth & NEVER touching my eyes.
if you just ejaculated into someone's open mouth without them having had performed oral on you, it's not a real risk at all. it also takes heat and friction to transmit herpes, not just contact with any virus that would be in the semen. hope I was understanding what you were referring to.
I just wanted to know what are the symptoms of herpes if it occurs inside urethra of men or does it occur inside urethra, as i have been through chamdlya test which came out negative a urine culture which also came normal and a urethra swab for culture test which also came negative then the urologist treated me with rociphin 2g iv for 7 days but then after 7 months suddenly on my penis herpes simplex has occured which is now been treated with zovirax 10g ointment and famvir 250mg oral tablets.
That was 12 years ago, and we have gotten to a place where our outbreaks are pretty well controlled with Famvir. About 2 weeks ago I had oral sex with my wife, and 3 or 4 days before that I had felt an outbreak coming on and took some Famvir. The outbreak didn't develop to much of anything, and there were just some small non-visible scabs on my lip. In fact I had forgotten about the whole thing since there was not much of an outbreak.
how long did you take the famvir for? are you sure that you haven't done anything else along with taking famivir that could have helped the symptoms? simply from being at rest for example.

Definitely the next step is getting your man tested for herpes. He'll need a type specific herpes igg blood test for hsv1 and hsv2. Once you know his status then you can better decide what precautions to take together ( if any ).
Just to err on the side of caution - I'd call the clinic and ask them if they can mail you a copy of your herpes lesion culture results. The other option is to ask for a clinic nurse there to go over it with you.
t know what herpes expert you are talking about, but starting Famvir at day 14 after contact would have absolutely no impact on contracting herpes. If you had come in direct contact with herpes and had taken the Famvir within an hour or two for several days, then maybe, yes.
Yes, a western blot at 16 weeks would be conclusive but will likely not be different than results now. The western blot picks up more HSV 1 than the ELISA does.
It may also be that Famvir would work for you while Valtrex does not, if, indeed, all these lesions do turn out to be herpes. We rarely use Famvir, but every now and then, we find a patient who does a little better on Famvir than Valtrex.
I personally would not recommend bumping your Valtrex to 2 grams a day. That's a pretty hefty dose, and if 1 gram isn't doing suppression well, then I kind of doubt that 2 grams would do better.
I was diagnosed with type 2 herpes back in February after a sexual encounter with a new boyfriend. We had oral sex, which I performed on him. We did not have any vaginal penetration. About 7 days later I got an incredibly sore throat with huge tonsils and was actually hospitalized because it was so bad. I was placed on acyclovir for 10 days after my culture of throat came back positive. Since then, I have had numerous small outbreaks, with one or two lesions that disappear in a day.

no the famvir isn't still working a week later. Herpes antivirals don't work that way.
Can you get ob's back to back like this? Yes you can and sometimes it happens. treat this one like you usually do ( or consider the 1 day dosing of famvir even ). if it takes longer than a week to heal or you get another ob soon afterwards, follow up on things wtih your provider to make sure you don't have anything else going on and to discuss treatment options.
