Common Questions and Answers about Famvir long term

famvir

Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced long-term issue with elevated EBV numbers going up and down, but aways elevated numbers? Which, I think, is termed "chronic/active infection." If so, how long did it last? Or, is lasting...
Avatar n tn I am currently in a long term relationship, fully disclosed sexual history - but I am resisting suppression therapy. In a previous relationship I tried this for a year and found the side effects to be horrible - confusion, anxiety, agitation, poor typing skills, eye-blinking and muscle flickering. I want to avoid passing the virus to my partner, but I cannot live a happy life with the side effects of Accyclovir.
Avatar f tn It hasn’t stopped (though most of the time it seems to have slowed). How long does it take for my hair to stop falling out from this?
Avatar f tn I wonder if it's no longer a herpes issue but something else at this point?
Avatar m tn how long did you take the famvir for? are you sure that you haven't done anything else along with taking famivir that could have helped the symptoms? simply from being at rest for example. there are some new strains of Influenza virus that can trigger immunological problems and weaken the muscles and spinal cord. do you have any other symptoms?
Avatar n tn It also only has to be taken once a day which is a bonus for suppressive therapy long term. Both acyclovir and famvir need to be taken twice daily for suppressive therapy ( acyclovir is 3x/day for ob's and famvir is still 2x/day for ob's ). Acyclovir is the cheapest choice.
Avatar m tn Sorry my phone auto corrected. I meant 'I shouldn't trust any test I've taken thus far to include this WB?' How long do I wait? Man I feel stupid.
Avatar f tn If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.
Avatar f tn I'm on famvir for suppression, I had a cultural swab done a year ago at a clinic, I pretty well knew I had contracted the virus because the initial outbreak was crucial. The babies father knows of me having it, and got tested his hsv1 and 2 have came back negative.
Avatar n tn My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?
Avatar m tn In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish. In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.
Avatar n tn fungal infections are not std's. we have fungus on our skin all the time - just sometimes it overgrows and causes us issues. Don't underestimate what a case of jock itch can do in your body when not treated! follow up on this more to try to better figure out what is really going on.
Avatar f tn I hope someone can help. I've had horrible recurring pain in my right eye for over a year. Went to Optho. multiple times and was told it was an infected oil gland. I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution. I developed a rash on my buttocks months into this that my GP diagnosed as shingles and prescribed Famvir.
Avatar m tn have been now 5 months outbreak free (leading a really healthy lifestyle). My doctor prescribed me for my outbreaks famvir, 125 mg twice a day during 5 days. I have a girlfriend and we have talked about this and both of us would like to make sex without condoms. We have sex each 2/3 weeks. I wouldnt like to take suppresive therapy daily, if we are having sex each 2 / 3 weeks (wich is very little). Taking this in mind what would be considered an effective suppresive therapy?
Avatar n tn How long have you been taking the valtrex? What dose are you taking? Headaches are a normal side effect of the herpes antivirals but they typically will go away in a week or two. What mad eyou start suppressive therapy? You might want to consider switching to acyclovir or famvir instead and see if you do better on either of those. You can even start off at a low, subtheraputic dose and gradually increase your dose over the course of 2-3 weeks and see if you tolerate that better too.
Avatar m tn It should've been 2 500mg famvir tablets to take 2x/day for 1 day. Is that what you were given or just 1 500mg pill?
Avatar n tn d like for us to be able to have oral sex, but not if it will further spread the virus. We are both taking Famvir daily and almost never have outbreaks. I also know that it is possible to spread the virus without an outbreak. Please don't suggest condoms or dental dams - I'd rather just skip it altogether. Also, I know that prophylactics often don't protect against spreading the virus.
Avatar f tn i doubt you have developed a tolerance for famvir. I believe cortisone can affect the immune system, and it's very probable that it's causing an ob. The sores in your mouth may be cankers, which are related to stress and immune system overload. Talk to your doc and see if you can get off that cortisone!
Avatar n tn i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had better results with Famvir? And does it help suppress transmission like Valtrex does? My Dr thinks the Valtrex might be causing my hair loss so I am switching....
Avatar n tn 10 years of being infected in 100 participants if you are interested in more reading on all of this. The majority of folks I know who have had hsv2 long term, have less ob's in general though they all seem to go thru periods where the pattern is increased for a short time ( like they won't get an ob for a year or two and then have 3 in a row in a few months or something similar ).
Avatar n tn Also my doctor prescribed famvir but I don't have genital herpes. Can Famvir help with penis pain?
