famvir works by disrupting the viral replication process. canker sores aren't caused by a virus to famvir wouldn't help them. hard to tell if this was your hsv1 flaring up or just coincidence that it went away so quickly after starting famvir. No harm in treating though that's for sure. has hubby ever been tested to know his own hsv1 status?

Did you tested for HHV 6 ?? It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms. Hope you feel better soon.

I was diagnosed with hsv 2 genitally in jan 09. I started taking valtrex but i seem to have constant outbreaks..one day of relief then a weird feeling down there. Sometimes i feel bumps or cuts. I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid. My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?

She did not bother to take a culture for strep or herpes. She just prescribed the zithromax antibiotics and famvir and told me if the famvir doesn't help then she will recommend a throat specialist for them to take a look at. When I had done the Std testing I was tested for hiv, herpes 1&2, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphillis.

Blood tests showed high titers of HSV-1 and coxsaccie (antibodies to HSV -2 but no genital breakout). Diagnosis was Ramsey-Hunt. In July went back to old dentist after continued pain. Abcess in tooth was discoved and removed and tooth crowned. At same time began course of Famvir 250mg daily as titers of HSV1 and coxsaccie still very high. This seemed to help for a few months. Pain was definitely better although left side of face served by facial nerve feels "tight".

People with oral infections tend not to use drugs; only if symptoms are persistent and at the worse end of the spectrum. Cold sores is just a less dramatic term to use than herpes. this has never happened before with only 3-4 outbreaks in 3 years, and now 2 in less than 2 weeks! how can this happen?! shouldn't the famvir still be active after a week? and shouldn't my body have built up immunities since last week to get rid of the virus? so wouldn't this mean that i shouldn't have another outbreak straight away? any views on this would be greatly appreciated as i am quite depressed at having this 2nd outbreak so quickly after the first.

I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution. have been now 5 months outbreak free (leading a really healthy lifestyle). My doctor prescribed me for my outbreaks famvir, 125 mg twice a day during 5 days. I have a girlfriend and we have talked about this and both of us would like to make sex without condoms. We have sex each 2/3 weeks. I wouldnt like to take suppresive therapy daily, if we are having sex each 2 / 3 weeks (wich is very little). Taking this in mind what would be considered an effective suppresive therapy?

Sores scabed and went away after 1 week. Now the blisters are back in the same place. He has given me zovirax this time. Do outbreaks happen so close together? After 10 years without ant noticeable outbreaks now I have 2 in 2 months? Thanks.

i doubt you have developed a tolerance for famvir. I believe cortisone can affect the immune system, and it's very probable that it's causing an ob. The sores in your mouth may be cankers, which are related to stress and immune system overload. Talk to your doc and see if you can get off that cortisone!

i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.

Also my doctor prescribed famvir but I don't have genital herpes. Can Famvir help with penis pain?

When I am not dosing myself with ibuprophen( I was taking percocet at night but hated the side effects ) I am acutely aware now of pain in the neck in a localized area; below my ear. The doctor ordered an M.R.I. which I a awaiting and thought it could be a disc irritating a nerve but I am very unsure of that because the pain in my neck feels deeper than that. I am tired and looking forward to any thoughts suggestions coments. I live on an island and cannot wait until the M.R.I. results.

Has anyone had better results with Famvir? And does it help suppress transmission like Valtrex does? My Dr thinks the Valtrex might be causing my hair loss so I am switching....

I'm on famvir for suppression, I had a cultural swab done a year ago at a clinic, I pretty well knew I had contracted the virus because the initial outbreak was crucial. The babies father knows of me having it, and got tested his hsv1 and 2 have came back negative.

The dr said if I had herpes I would have seen *some* rise in the level in that time period. He dismissed the fact I still have some symptoms and respond to famvir. My problem with this is at the same time my blood work came back and showed globulin levels low ( my test=2.0 , ref for 26y/o male 2.1-3.7) I asked if this could have screwed up the blood test and he said no , it was not really anything to worry about it was not very low.

I have type 1 hsv genital and oral. I had sex with a girl 2 weeks ago (wore a condom) and took 1000 mg of famvir that night after sex and the next 3 days. Research has found that when taken suppressively - valtrex delays the return of viral shedding a little longer than famvir and it also works better in infected folks who aren't having obvious recurrences of herpes. It also only has to be taken once a day which is a bonus for suppressive therapy long term. Both acyclovir and famvir need to be taken twice daily for suppressive therapy ( acyclovir is 3x/day for ob's and famvir is still 2x/day for ob's ).

I have always had houseplants and my cats never seemed to care. My cats, however, were indoor-outdoor cats. I think cats require an outside life, unlike dogs whose life is with their masters.
