Two weeks ago, I felt and saw redness, lumpiness and then a whitish sore that I associate with cold sores and hurriedly bolted down 1500mg of Famvir. But the sore/lesion seems to have been on the inside of my lip (the moist inner mouth), and not on my skin. Stupidly I didn't think of this til later. I think, in my panic, I just went for the meds as the easy solution without thinking.
Just had some bumps with crusting on them. The whole upper lip is red and tingling. Im convinced theyre cold sores. Lysine pills and famvir has stopped working for me. What else can i take for this?
They are amazing. I have literally seen them make a cold sore only have a) one blister instead of many and b) go away in two days on my ex partner.
And for outbreaks themselves, take an antiviral. Also, if you can identify when you outbreak exactly then take good care of yourself during that time. Like for myself, I caught it this year and my outbreaks tend to be triggered by menstruation.
I have a lot of friends and family with cold sores, and none of them have ever gone this long with persistent recurrences. Maybe I'm an exception, but I feel that I'm healthy enough to warrant investigating further possibilities....I just don't know what they may be?? Could this be something bacterial? If the swab comes back positive, should I keep up this neverending wait? Try new medicine?
He touched it to clean it and then rinsed his hand in water and towel dried. He was taking Famvir for his cold sores. He later then proceeded to fidle with my pants but they never came off. How long does the virus last on clothing and what are the chances of it being transmitted to my genitals? We never kissed but we did kiss the day of his break out before he had any symptoms. Oral transmission is still possible?
Thank you for your response. I might add he did put his genital in me for a few seconds but made him get out quick. He promises he doesn't have anything and I didn't see any sores at the time either.
Quick question, my doc logged my results on her patient portal where I am able to see. It says negative for HSV-1 and negative for HSV-2, but when her office called me they said I was positive for "cold sores". Could I have cold sores and not have HSV-1?
4 days ago I kissed and received oral sex from a colleague at work. She had told me a few months ago that she did not get any cold sores. 3 days later she came to work with a cold sore. I asked her how she could have got that as she said she didn't get them. She said it was the first time that she's had them. I know that I wasn't the one to give her that as I have been tested in the past and it was negative for both types.
She did start to get cold sores not long after an episode where we kissed and I still had a cold sore, and has had them ever since off and on consistent with the triggers that can bring on HSV1 outbreaks. I believe that she has also been diagnosed, and they respond to Famvir. Anyway, thanks for the advice and here's keeping our fingers crossed.
i doubt you have developed a tolerance for famvir. I believe cortisone can affect the immune system, and it's very probable that it's causing an ob. The sores in your mouth may be cankers, which are related to stress and immune system overload.
Talk to your doc and see if you can get off that cortisone!
Talk to your provider about having herpes antivirals on hand to treat cold sores at the very first sign of a tingle of getting one . Valtrex and famvir are 1 day treatments and acyclovir is 2 days. Easier and more effective and potentially even cheaper ( acyclovir is $4 at walmart for 30 200mg pills with a prescription ).

) I have tried your advice about taking more antiviral medication after my injections and that has not helped yet, I know it still is early. I have been searching posts about frequent cold sores and I keep coming across HIV/AIDS as a possible cause. This, of course, is disconcerting. It has been near two years since having any possible exposure and I tested negative (an in office test where they poked my finger and took a sample.) The results were read in the office after about 10 minutes.
I have type 1 hsv genital and oral. I had sex with a girl 2 weeks ago (wore a condom) and took 1000 mg of famvir that night after sex and the next 3 days. I don't think she is being honest with me about type 2. I have had 4-5 days of grueling lumbar and buttocks pain just a week after sex. I can't even stand straight. I now feel warm and I have a headache. Same stuff I had in my initial OB 5 years ago. I'm so scared. My legs feel weak and I am in shock.
Im on the famvir because i went through 2 scripts of acyclovir and it didnt help.im on the famvir now and my mouth is broken out.this stuff is crazy.it just keeps ping ponging around in my mouth.have you every seen it act like this?(Im hetro and have had 2 neg.hiv tests.i guess thing could be tougher for sure)should i stop the famvir before I test?by the time I test it will have been 8months of this.If im every going show pos.I would by now correct?
HSV-2 hardly ever causes cold sores and when it does it rarely recurs. Finally for lesions to occur in place where there was no contact makes herpes almost certainly not the issue. AS I said before, you need to stop worrying and take care of the problem. The way to do that is to seek evaluation. Again as I said, in your case if the rash is still there, I would think a dermatologist would be the best bet.
And while it is better, that cognitive stuff still seems to come around at times, especially when it gets very cold out and I get several mouth sores. Or recently, after I had two root canals and developed sores, even though the sores were very small. I know what you are saying about what is supposed to happen - I know Mollaret's is supposed to be very transient and herpes is not so troublesome - but I am telling you that my body doesn't seem to have read those books.
My husband gets cold sores often and they get pretty bad and are always on his lip. He just got over one bad case. He said it was all healed and gone so he gave me oral sex as foreplay ...the very next afternoon he developed another cold sore, I am scared he put me at risk of developing a sore on my genitals now. What are the chances of me getting an outbreak now?

as far as reducing transmission to a partner which from your prior post is your main concern I would think, we don't have studies showing that daily suppressive therapy reduces transmission to a partner for hsv1 orally.
Refrain from touching the sores and spreading the virus to new sites, such as the eyes and genitals. It is also important to wash hands after eating or touching the lesion. Ice applied directly to the cold sore site prior to the eruption of a blister may reduce the potential swelling. Any drying over-the-counter cold sore preparation that contains camphor and/or phenol may provide relief if applied in the early stages.
