famvir

Avatar m tn No real outbreaks before this. I went to family doctor and he gave me 500 mg famciclovir. Sores scabed and went away after 1 week. Now the blisters are back in the same place. He has given me zovirax this time. Do outbreaks happen so close together? After 10 years without ant noticeable outbreaks now I have 2 in 2 months? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Just 1 week before sexual exposure, I had finished taking Famciclovir 250mg for HSV-1 outbreak. And it cured. After 123 days(4 months) from last risky sexual exposure and 130 days from FAMCICLOVIR completion, I took HSV2(IGM and IGG) test and it turned out negative. I did not got any symptoms on genital area. Can I consider this as confirmatory for HSV-2 in my body? Should I need to go for more test? if so when to take the test? It is 4 months now completed from risk.
Avatar n tn The chances of a postive test while taking famciclovir are very, very low. Famciclovir resistant HSV is rare, occurring in less than 1% of persons with HSV but, if you were culturing a resistant HSV lesion, the culture would be expected to be positve. For taking a swab test, all one needs to do is firmly rub the lesion with a swab. The lesion does not need to open or fluid filled.
Avatar f tn How were you diagnosed as having ocular herpes and whitlow?
Avatar f tn A week after contact I started experiencing numbness and an odd sensation on my fingertip. I immediately started famciclovir the next day (8 days post potential exposure) My finger still feels numb/ slightly cold/ very mildly swollen with red spots and hyperaensitivity at the tip (havent been touching anything with that finger) which is 1.5 weeks. I got a fever a few days ago which was 1 week after I felt potential symptoms and 2 weeks post potential exposure.
Avatar f tn Oral acyclovir or the recently developed drugs, valacyclovir (Valtrex) or famciclovir (Famvir), lessen the symptoms and frequency of fever blister recurrences for some patients. These drugs prevent HSV from multiplying and are effective when taken in pill form prior to an outbreak of the virus. Topical antiviral creams containing acyclovir (Zovirax) or penciclovir (Denavir) may also help in limiting the extent or duration of lesions if applied promptly to affected areas.
Avatar m tn the test you had done is not one that I am familiar very much with to comment on its accuracy. only taking 4 days of famvir though did not effect your blood test results I can assure you.

Avatar m tn acyclovir (Zovirax), famciclovir (Famvir), and valacyclovir (Valtrex) The rabbit hole of "natural treatments" and remedies is never ending and fraught with peril, proceed cautiously.
Avatar m tn 4) If I additionally take famciclovir 250mg tid, does this significantly reduce my risk of communicating the virus through fellated ejaculation? 5) Does a hot soapy shower in fact temporarily (1-3 hrs.) reduce possible shedding? 6) Lastly, how do I test for shedding, or, viral load in my semen? I know that's a lot of questions to ask; please let me know how I can help any organization you like working with HSV or STI awareness or treatment. I have already donated to PP.
Avatar f tn Famvir and famciclovir are the same thing, as are Valtrex and Valacyclovir. One is the brand name, one is the generic. I'd stay on the valacyclovir. The last thing you need right now is another outbreak, and stopping antivirals can trigger an ob. I can't advise you on the amiltriptiline. If it's not working, maybe you shouldn't continue it, but PLEASE talk to your doctor before stopping it.
Avatar f tn Is my doctor wrong? He also gave me famvir as a precaution and said it could help to kill the virus before it multiplies. I am so anxious now and am desperate for your knowledge on this.
Avatar n tn Antiviral prescription medications such as FAMVIR® (famciclovir) can help reduce your symptoms and help shingles blisters heal faster. However, the medication should be started within 72 hours (3 days) after the rash of shingles appears, so it is important to see your doctor right away. Without treatment, the symptoms of shingles (eg, rash, blisters, and pain) usually go away in about 3 to 5 weeks.
Avatar f tn actually famvir is now a one day dose for ob's - 1gm 2x/day for 1 day. You will still have lesions but it does all it's going to do as far as speeding healing. I'd just try things at this point like tub baths with epsom salts thrown in and if you still have lesions after 2 weeks, be seen for a proper exam to see if it's more than just your herpes going on at the moment.
Avatar f tn Acyclovir (Zovirax) and famciclovir (Famvir) are similarly nontoxic. The official prescribing information for valacyclovir indicates a 1% chance of minor abnormalities of liver function in people taking valacyclovir, which was slightly higher than 0.5% for placebo. That difference was not statistically significant and there is no suggestion even for routine liver tests in people taking the drug.
Avatar m tn I’m on 500mg/day of Famciclovir. I wondered if switching to Valacyclovir would be helpful, as well as upping to 1000mg/day. I started on 250 acyclovir and was having less sever breakouts but same frequency. Then changed to famvir 500mg/day and didn’t have an outbreak for 18 months. But when I did, it was more severe. And last was 5 months between outbreaks, again more severe but I haven’t been on the end that long I guess. I’d like a virologist opinion.
Avatar f tn Terri, yes, the swab for the PCR was done before I started taking famciclovir. I imagined that the antiviral therapy would interfere, so I had all my exams before that. Answering your previous question: yes, my boyfriend does give me oral sex, but I've never noticied cold sores in his mouth. The whole thing sounds very odd to me. I read everywhere that catching herpes from a one-time sexual encounter is very unlikely, specially when the sex partner does not show any lesion.
