famvir

Avatar f tn A week after contact I started experiencing numbness and an odd sensation on my fingertip. I immediately started famciclovir the next day (8 days post potential exposure) My finger still feels numb/ slightly cold/ very mildly swollen with red spots and hyperaensitivity at the tip (havent been touching anything with that finger) which is 1.5 weeks. I got a fever a few days ago which was 1 week after I felt potential symptoms and 2 weeks post potential exposure.
Avatar f tn I have had oral sex with my partner who has Genital Herpes 2 and I thought we did everything 'right' in preventing it being passed on to me. He hasn't had it for some time. I now have burning when going to the toilet, incredibly itchy skin and a few 'sore'. My doctor has taken a swab and is getting tested and gave my the 3 day internal canisten cream and i'm on tablets...Famciclovir 250mg twice a day. I've tried Vagisal....no go. I've tried Eylocaine Jelly...
Avatar m tn hey i made a stupid decision and had sex with a prostitute, with condom but I am paranoid i might have gotten something like herpes-2 that i will have for the rest of my life... it was 2 days ago, if i take antivirals or something right away like they do with HIV needle pricks, can i kill the virus before symptoms occur or is it too late?
Avatar f tn Recently I developed little spots on my penis head, which are spreading over the whole head now . Thinking it was chlamydia or herpes I took 4x azithromycin 250 caps and 2x famciclovir 125 tabs. That night I went I the shower. I had a huge rash covering my whole stomach , above my groin and the inside of my thigh . It was very noticeable and pronounced . The next day it was gone. But the little but on my inner thigh was still there.
Avatar m tn I started suppression famciclovir over the weekend and had diahhrria 5 times the next day. Has this happend to anyoone else? Please share your side effects of any other meds or meds that gave no side effects. I have to call the doc and get something else.
Avatar n tn One day, it appeared 1 vesicule on each side of the labia minora (entrance of the vagina). The vesicules bursted and after, the lesions seemed like an ulcer on my skin of maximum 1 cm. The lesions were yellowish, greenish. 4 days after I had notice the first vesicule, I went to see the doctor (the vesicule had bursted). He told me: "It seems like herpes, but it's not herpes." So to be sure, he did a swab test that came back negative. He prescribed me famciclovir.
Avatar f tn If you are taking antiviral medicines, such as acyclovir, famciclovir, ganciclovir, or valacyclovir (Valtrex) if can interfere with Herpes testing. This is primarily true in recent infections. The use of those medications can extend (but not prevent) seroconversion (the amount of time it takes your body to develop antibodies).
Avatar m tn When I started prophylactic treatment with acyclovir, I saw a reduced occurrence for a few months, then they came back to about 4-5 outbreaks/year. I recently switched prophylactic medication from acyclovir to famciclovir, and had a 18-month period free from outbreak. Come yesterday, I had another terrible outbreak (worse than usual)... will these become more commonplace now? Is this a sign of HSV-resistance to the drug? Are there any other courses of action I can consider?
Avatar m tn I was wondering what is the difference between 0.5 mg and 1mg in regards to resistance. Will 0.5 mg of entecavir cause resistance in patients who never have been on any nucs and no polymerase resistance detected vs 1mg. My doctor wants me to take 1mg vs 0.5 mg but I have been been on any nucs and show no resistance to any nucs during genotype testing.
Avatar m tn Just 1 week before sexual exposure, I had finished taking Famciclovir 250mg for HSV-1 outbreak. And it cured. After 123 days(4 months) from last risky sexual exposure and 130 days from FAMCICLOVIR completion, I took HSV2(IGM and IGG) test and it turned out negative. I did not got any symptoms on genital area. Can I consider this as confirmatory for HSV-2 in my body? Should I need to go for more test? if so when to take the test? It is 4 months now completed from risk.
Avatar m tn So a couple things here - First, once you have antibodies to hsv1, it is very, very unlikely that you would ever autoinoculate (spread it to another part of your body). You've had this for a really long time, and antibodies develop within a few months, so I wouldn't worry about that at all. The other thing is that herpes infects nerve groups. Oral herpes infects the trigeminal nerve. That nerve affects the mouth, nose and eyes.
Avatar m tn Dear Experts, I am sorry in advance if someone had the same situation before, but I do really appreciate your advices regarding my test Herpes results. I live in AUS and I am not sure if there is a good/reliable Herpes test here. History: Last exposure was on 10 Jan 2015 31 Jan 15 - feeling the pain around anus/buttock 3 Feb 15 - Doctor A told me it was anal fissure and gave me cream to apply.
Avatar m tn But anti-viral medications like acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir are known to shorten out breaks and improve symptoms. It depends on one’s immunity also. If it is good the person may have less number of reactivations. If the immunity is relative less than he is likely to have more symptoms. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Many months ago I had been tested (since previous partner) for HSV1 and HSV2 through my GP. Both came back negative. My current girlfriend also got tested for HSV1 and 2 and both came back negative. She has never had any outbreaks. Because we both got tested with negative results, and neither of us had outbreaks I assume neither of us had it. Could I have had a false negative?

Avatar n tn You need to be treated for this though genital herpes cannot be cured. There are antiviral drugs like acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir which can shorten the episodes and decrease their severity. Acyclovir reduces the pain and number of lesions in the initial case of herpes and reduces recurrence. The ointment applied topically reduces pain, healing time and limits the spread.
Avatar n tn even though i have read that these drugs are not effective Hello, To prevent frequent recurrence of genital warts, one can take medicines like Acyclovir, famciclovir, and valacyclovir. This is known as suppressive therapy and is very much effective in preventing recurrences. My advice is to consult a dermatologist and get it prescribed. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn I recently lost 3 family members and the stress of contracting herpes might put me over the edge. I realize this has probably made me overly paranoid about contracting the virus, however, I'm considering post-exposure prophylaxis with Famciclovir. Is there any reason not to proceed (beyond the fact that it is considered "off-label" and not proven to suppress the virus)?
Avatar m tn Auto inoculation is uncommon in persons with HSV but if it occurs, it typically occurs only at the time of and from the site of the initial infection. As I understand it, you have HSV-1 and the lesion you describe is a recurrence, not your first outbreak. If that is so, as Teri has told you, it is very unlikely to be HSV. Furthermore, if it is, so what. it does not mean you have "more" HSV and on famciclovir, you chance of spreading it to others is close to zero.
Avatar f tn I thought it was yeast infection and self medicated. However it got worse and then I noticed ulcers/boils all over vulva. Pain was very intense. They started to ooze and bleed. They are now drying out but I still have tingling feeling. I visited doctor who suggested possible genital herpes and put me on famciclovir. I'm just wondering how I might have contracted this. I have only ever had one sexual partner for the past twenty years. Is it likely my husband may have cheated.
Avatar n tn Treatment with antiviral medications like acyclovir of famciclovir shorten the duration and severity of outbreak. Painkillers are generally taken to alleviate pain. It is in your best interest to seek medical help at the earliest. Best..
