Common Questions and Answers about False blood alcohol readings

alcohol

Avatar f tn The focus on how important normal blood pressure is, and how dangerous high blood pressure is, can make anyone anxious and produce false blood pressure results. And 149/80 is just mildly elevated. Anxiety will make the blood pressure increase in everyone. It's a normal response. In Norway, almost no one get the diagnosis of high blood pressure without a 24 hour monitoring, to reveal the true blood pressure.
Avatar m tn Check if it can raise your blood sugar levels. Some high blood pressure medicine can raise the sugar levels. Know your body. It is the inly one you will have.
Avatar n tn I have a bigger arm and i was using the machines at the stores and getting false readings.
5609181 tn?1375332372 When you do test, do you wipe off the alcohol so your finger is dry? If alcohol is still there it gives you a false reading. You never use the first drop of blood either. You wipe off the first and use the second.
Avatar n tn About a month ago my liver function readings were elevated, so my Doctor took me off Lipitor to see if it was the Lipitor or alcohol consumption causing them to be high. He told me to come back in one month to be tested again. Even without the Lipitor, they went up some to 74 AST and 142 ALT. Now he wants me to go to get a GI Specialist. I asked if this was for more testing, he just said no, but they would be better off determining what medication you should be on.
Avatar n tn t say if herbals and supplements can cause false readings. She really needs to get to a doctor to find out. Good luck to you. She's lucky that you are trying to get her help.
246464 tn?1249452147 Thanks- I was referred to one "Specialist" who told me he did not believe in Hypoglycemia as it was nothing more than a 'trendy' complaint in the 1970's. He said my readings, the EMT's Readings- have all been false lows as there was no way my Blood sugar could have been 34.. He'd only believe it if I went to a hospital lab when it gets that low and have it done there.
Avatar n tn Antibody tests can produce false positive readings. Also, if you were ever exposed to the virus and your immune system fought the virus off which happens in about 20% of the infected population you will always test positive for HCV antibodies but negative for virus. Antibodies pose no health threat. Alcohol consumption can cause elevated enzymes especially if you mix the 10/500 hydro with alcohol.
Avatar f tn I understand that a higher blood pressure (say, 135/80 and up) does more damage to blood vessels than the lower readings. My husband and I both, after sitting quietly, and taking it a few times! can get readings at home of about 120/75 or even lower. The first reading after sitting down might be 135/80. But we both are very active (both 54) and run around all day at work, and when we check it then, it can be as high as 140/85 or so, sometimes higher, sometimes lower.
Avatar f tn no the test weren't even in the same town. I don't have the readings. I am not sure if this last reading was a false positive because of another illness or if my thyroid was giving me problems all along. I looked at the symptoms of hypothyroidism and they match alot of what I am feeling.
Avatar f tn m a medical assistant and honestly we dislike Walmart blood pressure test because they are wrong an hive false readings most of the time your blood pressure is fine. if it was like 55/40 or 44/52 that's when u worry .
Avatar n tn Actually, I just wanted to know if alcohol in my blood could have created a false negative. I'm not doing any more testing. The testing they do at NY Presbyterian is as follows: Combined test (non type specific). If any positive result, then they test specific If still a need, they use Western Blot They advised me that if I was positive to either HSV 1 or HSV 2, it would show up in the combined test and that there was no need for a type specific test.
Avatar f tn My RE does the beta hcg test 15 days after the egg retrieval, but I've read that a lot of women's RE's wait longer to prevent false positives/chemical pregnancy readings.
Avatar m tn These conclusively prove that you did not have HIV at the time of your initial blood test, despite its false positive result. You need to believe this. Let me address your specific questions: 1. Yes the combination of tests you have had conclusively prove that you do not have HIV. You do not need to test further and do not need a Western blot. 2. No you do not need a WB.
Avatar n tn false positives are NOT the norm, although they do sometimes happen. IF someone receives a positive result, it is followed up by a western blot to confirm.
Avatar f tn do you think that could have caused the machine not to read the blood properly? I also did not give the alcohol on his fingers very long to dry. could that have caused a wrong reading?
Avatar n tn i was wondering if anyone knew why would your blood show antibodies to hsv 2 if it is a false reading. why would any antibodies show up at all? i am waiting on the wb results to come back and just anxious about it all. i had 2 low readings at 1.59 and 1.32, but did for some reason with another lab have a higher reading at 4.82 which during this high reading i was taking valtrex. my exs are negative.
Avatar f tn Other causes may be misreadings because your left arm is thicker (false higher readings), blood vessels are differently positioned, or so. Good luck! Please keep us updated on the findings.
Avatar n tn Also, the warm water method can help by allowing the warmth to expand blood vessels on the surface of the skin so it is easier to get a good drop of blood with just a slight *****. As a type 1 diabetic myself, I can spleak from experience on WHERE to ***** -- definitely go for the sides of the fingers, for the blood is easily obtainable there but sides of fingers is much less painful for the diabetic than finger pads. I find that I bruise less on finger sides also.
Avatar n tn I am a 55 year old male who has high cholesterol and high blood pressure and recently had blood work done showing the following: GGT - 159 AST (SGOT) - 25 ALT (SGPT) - 36 Alk Phos - 82 Total Bili - 0.9 Dir Bil - 0.1 Tot. Prot 7.6 The blood work was unexpected, so I didn't fast before going in. In fact, had taken a small amount Nyquil (with alcohol) the night before and an Ibuprofin.
Avatar f tn I'm a 37 year old female, non smoker, who rarely drinks alcohol and is not overweight. In the past year, I was diagnosed with an arrhythmis (sinus node reentry tachycardia), a dilated aortic root, brain aneurysm, Chiari malformation, arachnoid cyst, degenerative disc disease and mild spinal stenosis. Last week, I was experiencing severe pressure in my head which got me to my PCP. He immediately sent me to the ER where a CT scan was done.
