Fainting during bowel movement

Common Questions and Answers about Fainting during bowel movement

537974 tn?1213748515 November 7, 2011 was the first time this happened to me - intense, pounding headache during bowel movement. During the middle of the bm the pain crept up the left side of the back of my neck and with every heartbeat pulsed into my head, primarily on the left side. It was so intense I was afraid to move, grimace, make a noise or anything and I was pretty certain that my time had come.
Avatar n tn end up having a bowel movement- It seems that after the bowel movement I start feeling better- I often drink a Gatorade after due to the light headed feeling- and the rest of the day I feel tired & just not myself. Is there anything that could be causing this? It is very scary for me & has happened while out in public. Any information would be greatly appreciated! I also want to note that the pains in my lower abdomen are not always that intense. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I felt like I needed to have a bowel movement, but then this feeling came over me like I was going to faint. Everything was looking sort of black. I had to hold on to my husband or I would have fainted. He got me to a chair and he told me later that I was cold, clammy and very pale. I went into the restroom but could not go. On the ride home I started to feel better but still having cramps feeling. Within the next 2 hours at home I had three Bm,s that filled the bowl! Sorry to be so blunt.
Avatar m tn It connects the digestive system to the brain, and it's job is to manage blood flow to the gut. Vomiting, bearing down to have a bowel movement, or conditions that drop blood pressure amplify the effects of the vagus nerve and redirects much blood to the gut which may lead to fainting. Dehydration, psychological triggers such as anxiety, panic disorder and stress, shock, drugs or alcohol, and heart arrythmia are other likely causes.
Avatar f tn I started trying to eat healthier but it really didnt help. I get really bad pains when I have to use the bathroom (bowel movement). My entire left side feels like something is ripping through my intestines.. it's pretty incapasitating and then trying to go to the bathroom makes me feel really dizzy. This happens sometimes no matter what I eat. On Saturday I went to a party. I had ONE beer.. we were in the kitchen the whole time and all of a sudden I started feeling as if I was going throw up.
Avatar n tn My mom has diarrhea/bowel movement with sever cramps within a half hour of eating. She will frequently become dizzy and pass out on the toilet. She also vomits during these episodes. She is 76 yeasr old and had a bought with ulcerative colitis and bleeding ulcer 2 years ago. She can not leave the house for very long because the cramps and diarrhea sometimes last for several hours. She has had multiple colinoscopies and upper gi scopes.
Avatar n tn I'll get to the bathroom, rest till the dizziness passes and then need to have a bowel movement(not necessarily diarreah.) Then, I'll go back to bed and usually be just fine the next morning. I had all kinds of tests done..colonoscopy, barium this and that, CAT scan, gall bladder test etc. but, nothing turned up. I altered my diet at night (since this just seems to happen at night)stopped drinking red wine, carefully avoided rich fatty foods/ice cream etc.
Avatar n tn Recently, my mother has had 6 or 7 episodes of fainting immediately after a bowel movement in the early morning (4:00 am
Avatar n tn Feeling like I was going to pass out from nausea and dizziness, I had a small bowel movement (diarrhea) followed by the best passing of gas in my 34 years. Recovery seemed to get a lot easier from there. I've been home now for 8 days. I have been maintaining a low residue diet (not going to 'normal eating habits' until I feel my insides are ready). The incision pains have been decreasing daily, and I only feel pain inside when I stretch or breathe deeply.
Avatar n tn I'm really not sure what category to put this question under, but my husband has had two episodes of fainting during flights. The first time, I was not with him. He told me the first time he just remembered not feeling well, and then waking up having urinated on himself. He was sitting alone, so he has no idea what happened.
Avatar f tn For several years I have been having what I call "episodes". They were very infrequent, maybe two a year. In the last couple of years, they have become more regular and very scary. I have had five in three weeks. They are almost always at night after I have been asleep for a couple of hours. I wake up having lower abdomenal cramping, then I feel an extreme heat come over my whole body. Sweat pours off my body and I become pail in color.

Avatar n tn I have had these symptoms since i can remember and I'm so relieved i have found this site so i now know other people suffer from this and its not just me. Cramps, Dizzy, Fainting, Sweaty, Loose Bowel Movement and often beeing sick. a couple of times i have fainted and have been shaking whilst passed out. It feels like I'm about to die. Some times i can't speak cos my tongue has gone funny and my hands are stuck in the same position.
298579 tn?1192250448 It has gotten worse and then better over the years and I do have a history of endo. Sever cramps after orgasm, not during and bowel movement about 10 minutes after. It is possible that the endo is also on my bladder and intestines and I will get this check this week. Does anyone also have bladder pain, or the bladder feels a little swollen? I think it could also be related to food allergies. When I eat veggies and not bread, low carb diet, no refined sugar, it is dramatically better.
Avatar n tn I had bad pelvic pain, painful bowel movement, painful urination due to the endo during my period. I actually thought i was going to die. I was on treatment with Primolut n and came of the pills September 2008. My period was lighter the first month with severe pelvic pain. However for this month (October) i realised that the pelvic pain was gone but had mild pain. But i believe the pills have work.
Avatar n tn I'm a 60 year old men, in excellent health, except for experiencing tremors during sleep that wake me up and have difficulty going back to sleep. As I start to fall sleep again, I feel these "rumbleling" (tremors) around my upper body. I immediately wake up again. These tremors last for about 10-15 seconds after I wake up. The first time I experienced this condition was exactly two years ago. It lasted for about four days and it simply went away.
Avatar n tn Fastforward, I get mild to terrible episodes about weekly now and it has taken so much out of me. I call it giving birth to a bowel movement (ouch).I was given a medicine called HYOSCYAMINE. It tastes like a sugar pill and you put it under your tongue when the cramps start. It starts to ease the cramps in just five minutes. I vomit violently sometimes while diarreah is coming out too so I swallow a little bit of the pill juices and it almost instantly keeps me from vomiting too.

700067 tn?1332992883 I would get painful cramping during the day and night which would sometimes result in a bowel movement and sometimes not. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis and we figured that was the cause, along with endometriosis, for the bowel issues. Symptoms: - Cognitive issues - Memory problems - Back pain - Bowel problems - Fatigue - Head pressure - Migraines - Sinus infections 2009-2011 I got pregnant in 2009 and had a whole bunch of complications.
Avatar f tn - my recovery was much shorter and I was crowling toward the bathroom (had very strong urge for bowel movement) only 10 minutes after regaining countiousness. I even washed myself in the bath-tub before getting in my bed. - then I had 3 hours of 'recouring hell' - pre-fainting episodes every 15-20 minutes that would last from 5 minutes and gradually get shorter. Each time my body would begin to shake/convulse, I would feel dizzy and nausious.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the link, but it seems that particular discussion is about headaches brought on by bowel movements more than anything else. I don't have or get a headache from or after my bowel movements. I'm interested in knowing what the technical definition of "constipation" is when discussing the increased risk, if any, related to heart attacks.
Avatar f tn (More common triggers are orthostatic intolerance, bowel movement, urination, and heat intolerance.) Fainting directly correlated with swallowing (and not delayed after eating as in postprandial/reactive hypoglycemia or postprandial hypotension) seems much more indicative of this vasovagal reflex. A doctor well versed in syncope should be able to help you tease this out. "Seizure" or convulsions during syncope are not uncommon (non-epileptic).
Avatar f tn I started feeling severe abdominal discomfort after anything I ate, pulsating in my legs, pain and pricking in my legs at night, fatigue especially after eating anything, just awful after I ate almost anything, Felt like a huge bag of sand was pressing on all my insides in my get. Then I got severe eye pressure and pain behind my eye.
Avatar m tn ) Many people are able to stop an episode of PSVT by doing the Vasalva Maneuver, where you sort of hold your breath and bear down as hard as you can, as though you're trying to have a bowel movement; there is also the chance that splashing cold water in your face or coughing can make it stop. I try all of those several times, of course, before I go to the ER, but unfortunately they don't seem to affect mine at all.
Avatar f tn I feel that I do not have the ability to have a bowel movement automatically like the digestive track is shut down. I continue to have sweats and chills...gerneralized weakness in my legs (whole body @ times) and fluctuates day by day. Not all symptoms are present every day. Sometimes I have jerks and my whole body shakes...I refer to it like an electric shock that usually happens when sleeping.
9974613 tn?1407017869 The vagel nerve runs through your Rectum if that gets pinched of during a difficult bowel movement it can cause fainting, Light handedness, cold sweats, and nausea. Miralax is pregnancy safe for constipation.
