Common Questions and Answers about Fainting and giving blood

fainting

Avatar n tn I am 18 and very fit and well except that I have a really bad blood and needle phobia. I pass out cold at the sight of blood needles and at the dentist. I have been fainting since I was a young boy but recently just the thought of blood or going to the dentist is enough to make me pass out. My parents were told that I am vasovagel and that as I get older the fainting should stop.
Avatar m tn I'm with the USAF and I've passed out numerous times, I have a severe blood/needle phobia. I've gotten a bit better over time but still have issues. I was getting a group vaccination during basic military training. I remember receiving that shot in the butt (not sure what it is without looking at shot records). Walking a few mins, suddenly I wake up on the ground very confused. Gratefully they take me to another room to rest instead of throwing me out with everyone else.

Avatar m tn Vomiting, bearing down to have a bowel movement, or conditions that drop blood pressure amplify the effects of the vagus nerve and redirects much blood to the gut which may lead to fainting. Dehydration, psychological triggers such as anxiety, panic disorder and stress, shock, drugs or alcohol, and heart arrythmia are other likely causes. It would be best to have a further evaluation done by your mother's doctor to rule out other causes.
Avatar f tn Also lying down will sometimes raise your bp a little and stop a fainting spell. (I take bp meds and when I was trying different ones and strengths out I had to learn how to equalize my bp sometimes if it got too low.).

Avatar n tn Anyway, my post this evening is somewhat of another rant, I give blood frequently with the Red Cross/VA blood services and I wanted to do something differant, the whole blood donor guidelines are supposidly true for the other services. (in particular, apheresis donation)Apheresis is when they circulate/collect red blood cells through an IV line into a machine.
Avatar f tn sounds like you are very stressed out and yes I believe this could cause fainting however you should get it checked out, are you eating okay as low blood sugar can cause light headed and dizziness and possible fainting, how is your blood pressure. Are you taking any Meds could cause insomnia ?
Avatar n tn 1 in nov 10 had 2 blood transfusions and fibroid removal in jan 11. Still not well hot swollen joints hand and feet. fainting spells and flu like symptoms on and off for months.
Avatar f tn In patients with fibromyalgia there can be a dysfunctional and hypersensitive autonomic nervous system which can cause blood pressure fluctuations, drop in blood pressure and fainting. If you are suffering from hypotension drink plenty of water and fluids. Consume more salt in your diet. You may need tests like an electrocardiogram, cardiac stress testing .A detailed clinical examination and work up can be helpful in managing your condition. See a physician and get your doubts clarified.
Avatar f tn I never fainted but sometimes I lose my vision and my hearing and then I lie down and slowly everything comes back and I am okay it happened a time when I was at clinic n my pressure was really low and the doctor told me I need to eat more .....
Avatar f tn Has anyone else experinced a fainting/passing out moment? Definitely not from low blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Have you had his CBC checked to see if he is anemic? Especially, if he has nosebleeds. (I'm considering a nosebleed like my daughter used to have where there is blood everywhere and he has to have pressure plugs put into his nose to help stop the bleeding) There are many reasons for a teen to pass out; anything from too low blood sugar to low blood pressure. Dehydration can also cause someone to pass out. One question I have is he dizzy or lightheaded?
126762 tn?1325261805 my sister, age 22, and 13 weeks pregnant, this morning was at work, while standing she felt faint, then walked out of the room, everything went black (she described it as thinking she went blind), then leaned against a wall... and fainted and woke up on the floor, she was sweating and shaking right before that. When she woke up, she went to the bathroom and threw up, and was shaky afterwards... this afternoon she had what she says was very little spotting (5 or 6 hours later).
Avatar f tn I stood up quick and didnt know my blood sugar was low. As soon as I stood up my coworker said my eyes rolled back and I went down. I knew I wad about to faint, I had stood up to get my coworker and right as I did he happened to turn around and see me go down. Luckily I work in a hospital so everyone rain to me. Thankfully I didn't hit my head or hurt the baby.
Avatar f tn I had paramedics called out to me and had tests done like blood, egg and blood pressure. My blood was fine, i have a very fast blood rate and low blood pressure. Before i faint, my heart starts to race and first aiders have counted my pulse and has come to 114 per minute. I can feel my heart rate pulsing really fast before i faint, and i also get very clammy hands.
Avatar f tn But ever since this incident she has continued to have fainting spells regularly. Since two weeks ago the fainting became frequent and even five days in a row. She has even passed out on the street!!! She was hospitalised for 4 days to run tests. The doctors did a full blood count, MRI, EEG and cardiac check and everything came back ok.
Avatar n tn My biggest concern is the dizziness and fainting and incredible fatigue. The fatigue has gotten worse over the years but my sleep apnea is managed well with CPAP and nothing else ever seemed wrong physically so I have just dealt with it by making sure I get plenty of rest and strictly pacing my activity level. My sense is something is not right but none of the tests seem all that unusual. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what might be up with this?
Avatar m tn I think maybe you have eye problem. Try to consult any optometrist.
Avatar f tn s something that I should call about and be seen right away. It could be a problem with blood pressure, blood sugar or a sign of something else. That said, with me it was a problem with blood sugar levels. Drinking lots of water, eating steadily all day with plenty of healthy calories, and not overdoing my activity mostly resolved it. And my baby was totally healthy and actually really strong. It was just me having the problem. So your baby could be fine.
403255 tn?1278813266 I ate cereal bars and dried fruit all day Thursday and Friday and was fine, no fainting so it must have been low blood sugar. Also I have noticed I have not gained any weight in the last week so my calorie intake is down.
Avatar f tn I had horrible timing with my fainting spells last pregnancy. I was always really sick with morning sickness and once I passed out while on the stairs and fell down half of them. Woke up at the bottom of the stairs so confused. It's an unfortunate thing but also a bit normal. The amount of blood in your body is increasing and that is usually what causes it. If it happens a lot you should definitely go in and get some blood work done.
Avatar n tn Today I was cashing out of the store and my vision went and I could hear and ringing/buzz I was out for 3 minutes according to my boyfriend I'm 16weeks what might have caused this?
Avatar n tn I am not on birth control and have not have kids yet... I have made an appt. with both my gyno and doctor. What is up with me? Is this normal?
