Avatar f tn I have been told many things about smoking during pregnancy. I am currently nine weeks pregnant and I'm having a problem with just quitting smoking. I've been told that since I've smoked for almost ten years that if I just up and quit I run a high risk of loosing my baby. I've been told to cut back and I've got to where I only smoke about 5 to 8 a day and before I got pregnant I smoked a pack a day.

Avatar f tn My cousin has two miscarriages doing everything by the book, quit smoking cold turkey, completely cut out caffeine etc. When she got pregnant the third time she listened to her Dr's when they said everything in moderation. She cut down smoking, but did not quit and stress herself out, had one bottle of Pepsi a day, she now has two perfectly healthy baby boys.

Avatar f tn Ive smoked through my whole pregnancy im now 35 weeks and the midwife said my baby is healthier than some who dont smoke and shes bigger than what she should be. My midwife when talking about smoking where ive smoked since I was 12 said its better to cut down than quit because then it puts me and my little one under less stress. But shes very healthy so it cant be that bad.
Avatar f tn he want smoke around me. So just look up the facts on second hand smoking then present your facts to your family & let them know your concerns regarding your unborn child.
Avatar f tn With this one i was already cutting back before i got preggo and still had a few here and there but now can say i have officially quit after 15 years of smoking. Its hard when your stressed and being pregnant makes it even harder. There is always a risk with anything we put in our bodies. I say cut back as much as you can and go from there.
Avatar f tn Is about 15 weeks and has been smoking the entire time i believe. She went to the emergency room for some reason and the doctor advised her not to stop smoking because the baby is addicted and might stress out if she stops. Not 100% if its true but I believe it makes sense in a way. He probably asked her to do something else too.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't exactly compare smoking to heroin or coke when it comes to affects on baby when breastfeeding, my mama used to work with drug babies and she would say that smoking when breastfeeding is NOT the same as taking drugs when breastfeeding! That being said it's a good question because I quit smoking when pregnant but was planning to start again afterwards but I'm guessing I won't be smoking for a little while longer!
Avatar n tn I quit cold turkey after 10 years of smoking when I find out I was pregnant with my first 5 years ago. At 12ish weeks they said the placenta was a little over mature, probably from the smoking in the weeks that I didn't know I was pregnant (found out around week 7) so it was a good thing I quit right away or it might have been worse. She was almost born 7 weeks early but they were able to stop it until 36 weeks, still early but better.
Avatar f tn I was smoking a pack a day, and up until about 3 weeks ago I was still smoking heavily, but I quit cold turkey because one day I just didn't want them anymore and now I feel REALLY bad. I have my 20 week scan on friday, and I guess I'll see if everything is okay there.
Avatar f tn I'm 25 yrs old and I'm about 6 weeks pregnant with my first child, and I'm a smoker any good advice for me to try to quit smoking? And also I can't be seen by a doc until I'm 9 weeks, should I start taking the pill now? If so how often and where can I get them?
Avatar f tn In addition there are some studies that link SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) to smoking while pregnant. SIDS occurs when your baby randomly dies and there is no known direct reason or explanation. Is the risk worth it? I hope you say no and quit.
7366593 tn?1400009626 So I used to smoke weed heavily before i became pregnant but now that Ive been pregnant ive smoked occasionally. I started smoking cigarettes a month before I found out I was pregnant. I dont smoke either everyday. They are both occasionally but I smoke cigarettes more than I do weed. I eat healthy sometimes, I wat junkfood and drink soda sometimes as well. I just want to know the effect all this has on my baby...
2207301 tn?1340990867 It's not easy..... I quit a year ago when I found out that I was pregnant (different pregnancy then my current). I tried to quit for years, I smoked for about 17 years. When I found out I was pregnant, luckily for me I just quit. Lately, I really want a cigarette, of course I'm not going to smoke but the urge is there. I wish you luck with this and remember that in the 70's and earlier doctors didn't warn pregnant women about any risks of smoking.
Avatar f tn Lower the amount of oxygen and nutrient available your growing baby. Increase your baby's heart rate. Increase the chances of miscarriage and stillbirth. Increase the risk that your baby is born prematurely and/or born with low birth weight. Increase your baby's risk of developing respiratory (lung) problems. Second hand smoke has been shown to be just as harmful.

Avatar f tn well done on cutting down on the smoking. I can give you facts and information about smoking during pregnancy but don't panic reading them, you're not too late to stop damage from being caused.. It is dangerous, and can increase risk of miscarriage, birth defects, stillbirth, low birth weight, cot death, placental abruption and problems with child in later life. However if you quit soon you could avoid many of those things dramatically. One or two a day are still harmful..
Avatar f tn I found a place with an autoclave but do I need to worry about this last time? What are the facts? And do I really need to worry about HIV if it can't live out of its host? Please let me know so I can put my mind to ease. Thank you. This is a follow up question to the following that I already asked: I got a manicure on Sunday at a Vietnamese place. I forgot to bring my own tools so decided to let them use theirs.
